DC's modern TV universe kicked off with Arrow back in 2012, and while that series is coming to a close with its eighth season, another show is spinning out of the world of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), centering around Queen's grown-up daughter, Mia Smoak. The series will be introduced as a backdoor pilot during the final season of Arrow, according to Entertainment Weekly. It will star Katherine McNamara, returning as Smoak, who takes on the role of Green Arrow, along with Katie Cassidy Rodgers as Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake, better known as The Canaries. While it's unknown exactly where in the Arrow-vewrse timeline this series will be set, Mia was first introduced in a series of flashforwards in Season 7, where she fought under the alias of Blackstar. Chances are the new series will be set at that point in the timeline, with Ridgers and Harkavy playing older versions of their characters. However, with the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover coming this December, it's safe to say that things in the DC TV Universe are going to be shaken up and anything is possible--including time travel, which already happens regularly on DC's Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash..For the backdoor pilot, Arrow showrunner and executive producer Beth Schwartz will co-write alongside Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama. All of them will serve as executive producers of the potential new series, along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter.Arrow returns to The CW on October 15, and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover kicks off on December 8 with Supergirl, continuing with Batwoman on December 9, The Flash on December 10, then concluding with Arrows and Legends of Tomorrow on January 14.Info from Gamespot.com

A new story trailer has debuted for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, giving us our best look yet at the new campaign. The trailer, following a leak on Reddit, debuted officially alongside Sony's State of Play. It shows an extended look at Captain Price as he attempts to intervene in a civil war. Of course, the situation quickly spins out of control and chemical weapons fall into the wrong hands, as they are wont to do.On October 25th, when the world is threatened, you’ll have to get your hands dirty so the world stays clean. #ModernWarfare pic.twitter.com/zOHAN7mhQz — Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) September 24, 2019In the announcement, Activision also revealed a pre-order bonus: the XRK weapons pack, which includes a M4 assault rifle and XRK .357 handgun. This campaign is a return to the modern-day setting that made the series a breakout success, and it intends to be hyper-realistic. It's a soft reboot, using some recognizable characters (like Captain Price) but is disconnected from the previous continuity. We also know it will last about as long as you've come to expect from a Call of Duty campaign, though the studio noted that it varies greatly.Modern Warfare recently ran a successful open beta, including one pleasant surprise: cross-saves that allow players to take progress between platforms. After eight years and eight seasons, Arrow is coming to close soon, and while it's a bittersweet moment to see the emerald archer hang up his bow and arrows, there is still one more season left. The newest trailer for Arrow was just released, and there is a lot to take in.The final season will consist of 10 episodes, one of which ties in to the CW/DC Universe event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. While there is little known about what's happening in the story as the show winds down, the trailer gives us a good idea of what's coming: a lot of fighting. Check out the trailer for yourself, below.Rila Fukushima will be reprising her role as Katana and there is a whole army of Deathstrokes for Oliver to deal with this time around. Also, Tommy Merlyn popped up in the trailer too, so the past is coming back to haunt the Green Arrow. Overall, the trailer makes Season 8 seem like quite the hectic journey before it all comes to an end in early 2020, that is before the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover changes everything in the DC TV universe. While this is the end of Oliver Queen's journey as Arrow, it won't be the end of the legacy. There is also an Arrow spinoff headed our way, featuring a female-centric cast. Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy will return as series regulars during the final season, and there will be an episode that will serve as a backdoor pilot about a future Green Arrow and two other vigilantes known as The Canaries.Season 8 of Arrow comes to the CW on Tuesday, October 15.Info from Gamespot.com

Joy-Cons get the job done for playing games on the go while maintaining the Nintendo Switch's portability factor, but they aren't the most ergonomic controllers. Those looking for something that has more substance and feels closer to a Pro controller, meet the Hori Split Pad Pro. It's an officially licensed pair of controllers that snap right into where the Joy-Cons normally go, and currently the Daemon X Machina edition is available now. While it might be a bit chunky and missing a few features, the Split Pad Pro transforms the handheld experience, especially for games that warrant precise controls.First, the Split Pad Pro gives you a substantial controller option with more to hold onto, and those with bigger hands, such as myself, will definitely appreciate it. The wider form factor and subtle handles for gripping the controllers themselves are a natural feel that comes really close to a standard gamepad. What's more, the Split Pad Pro is lighter than standard Joy-Cons, despite the bulkier look (more on why later) and doesn't burden the handheld experience.Nintendo Switch with the Hori Split Pad Pro attached. The size of these controllers does compromise the portability factor. As you can imagine, the Switch with the Split Pad Pro attached isn't going to fit into form-fitting carrying cases. There's no doubt that the first glance at and the early hands-on experience with these will feel a bit off due to how wide apart the two ends are compared to Joy-Cons, but it doesn't take long to get used to and doesn't cross my mind anymore. One of the biggest advantages comes from the analog sticks, which are a massive improvement over what the Joy-Cons offer. Like an Xbox One or Pro controller, the Split Pad Pro sticks have full range of motion and a consistent resistance which affords you the ability to make more accurate inputs. The concave dome design and increased surface area of the sticks help keep your thumbs in place, too. These benefits aren't entirely necessary for certain games, like RPGs or tactical games such as Fire Emblem: Three Houses. But their advantages are undeniable in shooters--a few hours with Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Fortnite in handheld mode made this abundantly clear.Adding to the overall exceptional feel of the Split Pad Pro are the larger triggers and shoulder buttons that are smooth and effortless to pull. They're not clicky, and again, come close to how a Switch Pro controller feels. Another improvement is in the traditional-style d-pad--it's soft to the press and hasn't caused errant directional inputs in my experience. The A, B, X, Y face buttons may feel a bit loose in place, but they are bigger and ditch the clicky actuation of the normal Joy-Cons.Programmable backside paddles are a great feature of many high-end controllers, and the Split Pad Pro incorporates two of them wedged in the groves behind the grips (one on each side). Because of their sensible placement and ease of pressing, the paddles feel natural to use. However, they're limited in their implementation since you can only program them to act as a button that's on the same side as the corresponding paddle. While you're likely to prefer mapping a face button to each paddle, you can only do so with the paddle on the right side. This leaves the left paddle to likely be used for an action on the d-pad of left stick click, which is rarely useful in many games. This is due to the fact that the two ends of the Split Pad Pro are not in communication with each other. With that in mind, the Split Pad Pro controllers will only work when attached to the Switch's sides since they do not have wireless capabilities--nor do they have batteries to even do this. They also do not have rumble functionality. Without batteries or rumble modules, the Split Pad Pro is able to stay lightweight and keep costs down, but you'll miss out on these key features. With its shortcomings in mind, I still believe the trade-off is worth it if you play the types of games that benefit most from the Split Pad Pro, though handheld would have to be your primary way of playing Switch games. It makes gaming in handheld much more comfortable across the board, and it truly delivers much better control over first- and third-person shooters, or any game that requires precise analog inputs. That may be quite a few caveats, but for those who fit this description, the Split Pad Pro is a wonderful option. The Hori Split Pad Pro is now available to purchase for $50 at Amazon. The product discussed here was independently chosen by our editors. Disney CEO Bob Iger is revealing some very interesting information about the company's dealings in his new book, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company. Among other more interesting tidbits is the deal the company made with Star Wars creator George Lucas to buy the franchise. It was a deal that, according to Iger, left the film director feeling "betrayed." This much is revealed in a preview of the book, shared by The Hollywood Reporter. As Iger explained in his book, Disney's deal with Lucas included outlines for a trilogy of movies. However, the CEO noted, "we made clear in the purchase agreement that we would not be contractually obligated to adhere to the plot lines he'd laid out."Still, when Lucas found out Disney was going in a different direction, he wasn't pleased. "George immediately got upset as they began to describe the plot and it dawned on him that we weren't using one of the stories he submitted during the negotiations," Iger recalled. "George knew we weren't contractually bound to anything, but he thought that our buying the story treatments was a tacit promise that we'd follow them, and he was disappointed that his story was being discarded. I'd been so careful since our first conversation not to mislead him in any way, and I didn't think I had now, but I could have handled it better.""George felt betrayed," Iger continued, noting that the entire process of making a deal with the director hadn't been easy. Once it was made, however, things didn't necessarily improve. Upon seeing a cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, his didn't hold back in his criticism. For Lucas, it sounds as if the first film in the new trilogy, was too much of a rehash of what came before. "'There's nothing new,'" Iger remembered the director saying. "In each of the films in the original trilogy, it was important to him to present new worlds, new stories, new characters, and new technologies. In this one, he said, 'There weren't enough visual or technical leaps forward.'"As Iger explained, Lucas had a point. However, "he also wasn't appreciating the pressure we were under to give ardent fans a film that felt quintessentially Star Wars." He continued, "We'd intentionally created a world that was visually and tonally connected to the earlier films, to not stray too far from what people loved and expected and George was criticizing us for the very thing we were trying to do."In the end, the Star Wars franchise is still going strong. The final film in the new trilogy--The Rise of Skywalker--arrives in December. Before that, the live-action series The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+. Additionally, Star Wars-themed lands have opened at California's Disneyland and Florida's Walt Disney World Resort.Iger's book, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company, is available now.Info from Gamespot.com

The accompanying trailer showed plenty of new footage, including our first look at the previous game's protagonist, Joel. During the September State of Play, PlayStation announced that Survival Mode--one of the multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare--would be coming to the PS4 version of the game first. The mode will be coming to the Xbox One and PC version of the game as well at a much later date."Just the Survival mode within the Spec Ops mode," a game representative told GameSpot in regards to what's a limited-time exclusive for PS4. "Everyone gets campaign, multiplayer and Spec Ops." According to the small, tiny text in a shot during the trailer--embedded below--you can see that Survival Mode will be exclusive to PS4 for nearly an entire year before coming to Xbox One and PC.For those unfamiliar, Spec Ops is a traditional part of the Modern Warfare series. A cooperative game mode, this entry of Spec Ops--according to Activision-- will include "all-new" and "strategic" missions that can be played by anyone with anyone, regardless of your team respective skill level. Spec Ops is also expected to tie into the story in some way, though neither Activision or Infinity Ward have revealed how yet.During the presentation, PlayStation released the story trailer for Modern Warfare as well--which leaked mere moments before the State of Play started. The trailer depicts the central conflict of Modern Warfare's campaign, which aims to tell a realistic story about the horrors of modern-day war, including chemical weapons, political unrest, and unwelcome interference from foreign countries.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 25. Though Spec Ops may be coming to PS4 first, Activision previously announced that--unlike recent Call of Duty games--that most of Modern Warfare's DLC will launch simultaneously on all platforms, not on PS4 first and the other systems later. Activision has also teased that PS4 players will "have an exciting day one advantage" but hasn't confirmed what that might be. Having heard about Spec Ops, it's possible that the day one advantage is early access to the mode, but we'll have to wait for an official confirmation to be sure. During the company's latest State of Play presentation, Sony announced the release date for The Last of Us Part II via a new trailer, which you can watch above. The game is scheduled to release for PS4 on February 21, 2020.Prior to the presentation, Sony had remained rather quiet on the PS4 exclusive. The company first surprised the world with the reveal of The Last of Us Part II in late 2016, before releasing a new gore-filled trailer for the game in 2017 and then showing off the title's brutal-looking gameplay in another trailer during E3 2018. However, there hasn't been much in regards to the game in 2019. Until today.Gameplay-wise, The Last of Us Part II looks exceptionally violent--and we love it. Though we've seen sweet moments in the game too, like a grown Ellie kissing her crush and being terrified at the prospect of dancing with her and exploring their connection, The Last of Us Part II is clearly leaning into the worst aspects of what survival might look like in a post-apocalyptic world. We've seen Ellie slit the throat of a man for just being in her way, painfully pulling out an arrow lodged into her shoulder, and sinking an ax into an enemy's skull with a bloody crunch. The Last of Us Part II looks a bit more action-oriented than its predecessor. Ellie is equipped with a loadout of weapons that's similar to what Joel carried on him in The Last of Us, but Ellie finds herself in more open-ended spaces that present more options in how to dispatch a group of enemies. You can shimmy beneath a vehicle to sneak past a guard, attract enemies to certain locations to ambush them, tumble over obstacles to get behind cover more quickly, and slip between narrow hallways in the environment to escape larger foes. During September's State of Play, Sony revealed a new gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part II, as well as a February release date. In the trailer, we got to see Ellie kill people with almost malicious glee. You can watch it below. The new footage, which you can watch below, showed Ellie and her companion Dina exploring an infested area full of clickers. However, they both end up getting captured by a mysterious group. It's implied that Dina is murdered, which inevitably leads to Ellie's quest for revenge. While we got glimpses of combat and new enemies that Ellie will fight, there was also a focus on exploration via horseback riding.Aside from gameplay and brief glimpses of story, the biggest reveal was returning character Joel, who somehow looks even more grizzled and old than he did in the first game. Oh, and Joel's brother Tommy appeared as well. We've seen gameplay of The Last of Us Part II before, and the game looked just as violent then as it does now. Armed with a loadout of firearms that's similar to The Last of Us' protagonist Joel, Ellie proves to be just as talented a fighter and survivor as her adoptive father-figure. She doesn't hesitate when it comes to cutting a man's throat or leaving an ax buried in his skull, for example, and she's willing to go through the excruciating pain of pulling a lodged arrow out of her shoulder so that she can move around more easily.During the State of Play, Sony also announced a release date for The Last of Us Part II: February 21, 2020. During the September 2019 State of Play event, Sony and Naughty Dog revealed more details about the story of The Last of Us Part II. Up until now, we knew very little about the sequel's plot aside from Ellie's role as the protagonist--and her more violent bent since the events of the first game. We may not know a ton more about the story, but there are some key takeaways from the new trailer, including characters that are still alive in the sequel. You can watch the trailer above.Possibly the biggest revelation from this new trailer is that Joel is still alive in Part II. This wasn't a huge question mark with the sequel, as he was in the brief reveal trailer, but some time has passed since the events of the first game. We also see Tommy, Joel's brother, who played a part in one section of the original game. The beginning of the trailer shows a well-lit settlement, and all signs--including Joel's and Tommy's survival--point to at least one area that is relatively safe.Dina, the girl Ellie kisses in the E3 2018 trailer, is likely Ellie's previously confirmed NPC companion. We see them on horseback together, apparently on a supply run of some kind. The new trailer hints that something bad might happen to Dina, though through the magic of editing and the theater of the imagination, it's not certain. We also see Ellie and Dina smoking what appears to be a joint, so it seems their settlement has both electricity and downtime. These details are small, but they give a better idea of the direction of Part II's story. The Last of Us first released on PS3 in 2013; if you haven't played the original and want to catch up before the sequel launches, a remastered version is available on PS4, and it will be free on PS Plus in October.
