To coincide with the opening day of the Oculus Connect 6 convention, Respawn and Oculus have announced the development of Medal of Honor: Above And Beyond, a new first-person shooter for Oculus Rift. The game will be set during World War II, and you'll control an OSS agent who's charged with subverting and fighting back against Nazis, at times in cooperation with French resistance forces. According to Oculus, Above and Beyond will be a AAA experience that will offer both multiplayer and single-player modes, with the campaign projected to last roughly 10-12 hours.Above and Beyond will also incorporate mini documentaries produced in cooperation with World War II veterans, which, according to Oculus, let you "sit with WWII veterans and survivors to hear their stories while witnessing first-hand the events and locations that have shaped our history." Respawn's Peter Hirschmann, who was the writer of the original Medal of Honor and is now directing of Above and Beyond, said "Interviewing veterans of WWII was an immense privilege and allowed us to ensure its respect and faithfulness to those who served. They’re helping us drive home the full emotional and historical weight of this subject matter with players in a way that really resonates."The Rift exclusive (a potential Oculus Quest port was shot down by Hirschmann in a recent meeting with GameSpot) Medal of Honor: Above And Beyond is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2020.Info from Gamespot.com

Mario Kart Tour is available now, bringing the classic Nintendo franchise to mobile devices. But its multiplayer options can be a bit confusing. Can you add friends? Can you play with your friends? Why aren't those the same thing? Aren't you already playing multiplayer anyway? For starters, you are able to add friends. That option can be found in the Friends section of the main menu, and it will pull suggestions from your Nintendo, Facebook, or Twitter accounts if you link them to the game. However, this feature is limited to comparing your rankings against friends. You can't play against them, and a "Multiplayer" feature is grayed out in the main menu with a promise that it is "Inbound!"Compounding the confusion is the fact that the game is online-only, and you appear to be playing multiplayer against strangers all the time. But Nintendo has confirmed to GameSpot that it only has single-player features at launch, so your opponents are actually bots with player-like usernames. Regardless, you cannot pause races, and the game performs a network check upon starting a race as if it's seeking online opponents. Nintendo declined to comment on when multiplayer is coming. There is one way to compete with your friends, albeit indirectly. Once you open up Ranked Cups--the first of which is the Koopa Troopa Cup, the fourth available Cup--you'll be racing to achieve a ranked score against random opponents. That score entitles you to extra rewards like bonus rubies or coins after the week-long scoring period. The ranked score menu has a Friends tab, where you can compare your score to your friends. That appears to be the only way to compete with friends for the time being.Mario Kart Tour's first event is live now, offering Pauline from her revival in Super Mario Odyssey and Musician Mario as bonus characters. It's free-to-play, but the monetization hooks are surprisingly aggressive, implementing both gacha mechanics and a Battle Pass-like subscription.Info from Gamespot.com

Oculus Connect 6 is underway and during the keynote speech, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new feature for its virtual reality ecosystem called Oculus Link. In short, Oculus Link allows your standalone Quest headset to run Rift games via a USB-C connection. Some content is currently exclusive to the Rift since it's more powerful by virtue of being a PC-based VR platform, but such won't be the case later this year.Oculus Link will launch as a software update in November 2019, which means it comes at no extra cost for Quest owners. All you'll need is a VR-capable PC and the proper USB-C cable when the update rolls out. Zuckerberg said, "This is going to work with most USB-C cables out there," but Oculus will offer its own dedicated cable that'll "maximize the throughput" and charge the headset simultaneously. He also said that their new cable will be longer and more flexible, which is intended to help make room-scale experiences possible.Rift games on #OculusQuest? Yes, please! The standalone Oculus Quest headset has been a transformative VR platform as it brings full gaming experiences without any tethers, and its built-in sensors and tracking system has worked well for its games. You can read more about it in my Oculus Quest review from when the headset first launched.Another major announcement during Oculus Connect 6 was the return of the FPS series Medal Of Honor. It's coming out of developer Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Apex Legends) and publisher EA, and it's called Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond. The game will incorporate mini-documentaries into its projected 10-12 hour campaign.Info from Gamespot.com

During today's Oculus Connect 6 presentation, developer ILMxLAB has announced that Vader Immortal: Episode II is out right now. In a press release, publisher Oculus Studios confirmed that the game is available on both Oculus Quest and Rift for $10 USD, with cross-buy between the two platforms enabled.Episode II continues where Vader Immortal: Episode I left off, with you back in control Darth Vader's new recruit. Episode II also features Lightsaber Dojo II, a standalone training mode where you can improve your proficiency with both the Force and your trusty lightsaber.Senior producer Alyssa Finley spoke a bit about Vader Immortal during the presentation. "At its core, Vader Immortal allows audiences to explore one central question: what would it be like for you to be a hero in a Star Wars adventure, and learn firsthand about Darth Vader's mysterious plans?" she said. "We can't wait for audiences to continue their journey with Episode II."Vader Immortal is a three-part canonical Star Wars story, sitting between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Sad news for fans of Gabriel Luna and Robbie Reyes alike today as Deadline reports the full stop of development on the upcoming Ghost Rider solo TV show, originally slated to be released on Hulu in 2020.The show has been canceled during development due to "a creative impasse" that "could not be resolved," according to Deadline. Ghost Rider is the only show affected by the dispute; however, the other announced Marvel live-action project, Helstrom, is apparently proceeding as planned. Helstrom will join the roster of upcoming Marvel animated projects on Hulu including Tigra & Dazzler, Hit-Monkey, Howard The Duck, and M.O.D.O.K, all slated for release sometime in 2020.Gabriel Luna had been set to reprise the role of Robbie Reyes for the show after debuting as the character in Agents Of SHIELD, though the initial announcement stated the Hulu series would not be related to the events of Agents of SHIELD and would, in fact, take place in its own universe and timeline.Ghost Rider was originally slated with The Punisher's Steven Lightfoot attached as both showrunner and executive producer, alongside Marvel TV head honcho Jeph Loeb. The potential for a miraculous resurrection--perhaps on Disney's own homegrown streaming service, Disney+, remains to be seen.Info from Gamespot.com

Toys and board games being turned into feature-length movies isn't a huge trend, but we see a new film release every few years from 2012's Battleship to 2014's Oujia series, and there is still a Monopoly movie in the works. Now, Clue is getting its second big-screen adaptation, and there are some big names attached.Ryan Reynolds will star in the upcoming film, which was announced in early 2018. Now, Ozark's Jason Bateman is in talks to direct and star, according to Deadline. This will be a live-action film based on the Hasbro board game for Fox/Disney.Clue will also be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who scripted the Reynolds-starring Deadpool movies. At the time of this writing, no release date had been announced. The original Clue film made its debut in 1985, written by Jonathan Lynn and John Landis and starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Madeline Kahn, and other comedic actors of that time. The film follows six guests invited to a mansion for a dinner party. The host of the event is killed, along with the staff--one-by-one--and they must find out who the killer is, in this genuinely funny film. What was incredibly innovative about the original film was that during the theatrical showings, audience goers were shown one of three different endings: A, B, and C. In the home release of Clue, ending "C" was the true ending--and it's by far the funniest of the lot.As for the remake, if Bateman is hired, the film would be in great hands. The actor/director recently won an Emmy for Directing for a Drama Series for his work on Netflix's Ozark. The streaming service took home four awards that night for the series Black Mirror, Ozark, and When They See Us.Info from Gamespot.com

Ahhh, FIFA. Like the setting of the sun, the drawing in of the nights, the putting on of an old winter coat, there's both an inevitability and a level of comfort that comes with the release of a new FIFA game. The football season is properly back. The squads are correct again. A couple of new features to keep us occupied through the long, dark nights. All is right with the world.FIFA 20 might not be the series at absolute peak form--Volta isn't the revolution it perhaps could have been and Career Mode still feels underdeveloped--but modern FIFA is such a broad, deep, and complete offering that it remains a must-buy for football fans.On the pitch, FIFA 20 is remarkably similar to last year. Sports games do change year-on-year--I just feel that rate of change is slowing as we reach the end of this console generation. So while there are some welcome improvements--more natural first touches and more satisfying ball physics--things feel very similar to FIFA 19 once you walk out of the tunnel.Set pieces, have, however, received a bit of a makeover--specifically direct free kicks and penalties. In a throwback to the halcyon days of FIFA 2003, both now have you aim a reticle at the precise location you want to place the ball. Then, incorporating last year's genius timed finishing mechanic, you'll need to press shoot again at the right time, while also adding curve in the case of free kicks. Both take a little time to get used to, but they offer greater depth and satisfaction when you smack one into the top corner. In another nostalgic move--and in an attempt to offer greater improvements off the pitch--FIFA 20 introduces a new mode, the FIFA Street-like Volta Football, bringing street soccer to the main series for the first time. You control a squad of street superstars aiming to become the world's best in a journey that takes you across various unique, exotic locales. These three-, four-, or five-a-side matches are shorter and more chaotic than a standard 11-a-side game, and they feel sufficiently different and entertaining to become a worthwhile staple in FIFA's roster of modes. Fancier tricks and flicks and simplified tactics make it a mode that feels a little more, well, fun, than the more traditional game types--but don't expect the depth FIFA Street gave us all those years ago. There are no Gamebreaker shots here, and it's not as easy to utterly humiliate your opponent with outrageous nutmegs and rainbow flicks. Instead, Volta focuses on the culture of street soccer, where the language and atmosphere are more relaxed, more expressive--and more sartorially customizable. The Volta store and challenges that unlock new gear--combined with the ability to play against online human opponents in Volta League--mean the mode certainly contains more longevity than the mode it replaces, The Journey. And Volta Story, the single-player campaign in which you face off against AI teams, is a closer analogue to The Journey with its cutscenes and cast of characters. Its world tour structure is compelling and its real-world locations well-realized, with unique personalities and play styles of their own. However the characters you share your travels with are so irritating, and the writing so aggressively How Do You Do, Fellow Kids, that it becomes something of a chore to play. Other oddities such as inexplicably needing to play the same opposing team over and over, every squad having the exact same goalkeeper, and some consistent basic positioning errors mean Volta comes across as a mode that feels simultaneously long-lasting and half-baked. In a final, strange note, Volta requires an internet connection, even when playing the single-player mode, for reasons that remain unclear.Career Mode is FIFA's other main single-player offering, and it comes with a raft of new features. Proper conversations between manager and players are finally possible, for example; players will come to you to complain to or thank you about their game-time, as they have for many years, but you now have the opportunity to reply, with the aim to keep their morale--and hence performance levels--high. The system is shallow, with the morale bar seemingly the only variable you can affect, and messages still repeat far too often with the same old typos intact, but it at least feels a little more interactive than the stagnant old email system.Similarly, pre- and post-match press conferences have been overhauled, and they now appear more like those seen in The Journey in previous seasons. Again, the objective here is to maintain your team's morale, and again there isn't much more to it, but it is more visually and intellectually stimulating than a simple menu screen, as it was before. The final big new feature, dynamic player potential, means players' potential rating now changes based on your treatment of them. The move will please Career Mode ultras but in practice makes little difference to anybody but the most committed of players.Disappointingly, despite all the changes, Career Mode still feels a little barebones, and it still contains a number of inaccuracies. The transfer window ends erroneously late for English clubs, for instance, while VAR and short goal kicks are yet to be introduced into FIFA at all. Transfer negotiations are unchanged, save for two new background locations in which to hammer out a deal, and scouting and youth teams are the same for yet another year in a row. Career Mode has taken some steps forward this year, but a revolution is needed.Ultimate Team, meanwhile, continues its expansion and is now bigger and better than ever. The adoption of a Fortnite-esque battle pass model in FUT Seasons--not to be confused with FUT Seasons, the sub-mode--is somewhat confusing, but a masterstroke. It essentially manifests itself as an expansion of the existing daily and weekly challenges, with new tasks you can work towards over multiple weeks or the entire year. Rewards include packs, players, new cosmetic options including tifos and balls, and more. It all adds another way to be rewarded and another objective to work toward--especially useful for those who struggle to compete in the weekend league (which, by the way, is unchanged and hence remains as moreish, and as grindy, as ever).FUT's other new addition is Friendlies, which are a new way of playing casually within Ultimate Team. There are no great rewards for playing FUT Friendlies, but you do still earn coins, and, crucially, player injuries, contracts, fitness, and your playing record remain unaffected. The community has been crying out for a place to go when they can't face the pressure of Rivals or Squad Battles, and finally they have it. It also contains the same in-depth stat tracking and bizarre mode variants as was introduced in FIFA 19's Kick Off mode, along with new House Rules options. They're a weird, entertaining place to go to have fun with friends and they mean that, if it wasn't already, Ultimate Team really feels like its own game now. You might understandably disagree with its pay-to-win tendencies--yes, spending more money on packs means you're still more likely to get Lionel Messi than someone simply grinding for in-game currency--but FUT is as compelling and complete as game modes come, and I am horribly obsessed once again.Completeness appears to be the ethos FIFA lives by, and despite the omission of Juventus (forza Piemonte Calcio), this year's game feels more complete than ever. The same goes for its aesthetics and licensing, which continue to offer the closest virtual approximation of real-world football--or, more accurately, Sky Sports' version of football--available.Flawed and iterative, but comforting, complete, and compelling, FIFA 20 is as frustrating and as essential as ever. The Journey and FIFA Street will continue to be missed, but Volta offers a genuinely different option for those who want to dip in and out across FIFA's smorgasboard of game types, while Ultimate Team continues its route to world domination. It's just a shame Career Mode continues to stagnate--even if EA has finally remembered it exists.Editor's note: With servers online but currently unpopulated before release, we'll bring our final verdict on FIFA 20 soon, once we've had more chance to test out Pro Clubs, Volta League, and Ultimate Team.Info from Gamespot.com

Two days after a new teaser for the Breaking Bad movie, El Camino, debuted during the Emmys, a full trailer has finally arrived. The new look at the Netflix original movie gives a good idea about what to expect from the project when it arrives on October 11.The trailer picks up immediately following the events of the Breaking Bad series finale as a beaten and tortured Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) is on the run from law enforcement. Based on how the trailer plays out, the first person he turns to is Skinny Pete (Charles Baker). It's Pete who calls on Badger (Matt L. Jones) to help their friend. From there, we see Jesse on the run from a multitude of people attempting to capture him, along with a few nods to the events of Breaking Bad. Most notably, a photograph of Jesse's former girlfriend Andrea Cantillo (Emily Rios) and her son Brock (Ian Posada). For those that don't remember, Andrea was killed in the show's final season by Todd (Jesse Plemmons), to punish Jesse for attempting to escape the Nazi gang led by Jack (Michael Bowen). What became of Brock after the events of the show remains a mystery. Including an image of him in the trailer, though, could point to some manner of closure for that storyline. While the full cast list for the movie has not been revealed, it's been reported that more than ten characters from Breaking Bad will appear in the film. Of course, chances are Bryan Cranston won't reprise his role as Walter White, given that viewers were left with the impression that he died in the series finale. However, a cameo in the form of a flashback or memory of Jesse's wouldn't be entirely out of the question.El Camino premieres on Netflix and in select theaters on October 11.Info from Gamespot.com

Shadowkeep also introduces a new armor system and kicks off Destiny 2's first batch of seasonal content with the Season of the Undying, which runs from October to December. Ring of Honor's Flip Gordon has gone through a transformation as of late. His profile in the wrestling promotion has risen as Gordon has taken on the role of The Mercenary and aligned himself with Marty Scurll's Villain Enterprises. His evolution into The Mercenary was a quick one, but it's a role he understands and has had a connection to on some level for years. "I got out of the military last year, last May," Gordon told GameSpot. "And there was this void in my life because I was always used to the military lifestyle for the past six years. And so Marty kind of gave me that opportunity to almost have that lifestyle back and it was just the perfect fit. It was the perfect time. And I think it was the perfect change that I needed for not only my career but for myself."As The Mercenary, I know what my job is now. I'm given a job and given a task and once that task is completed I get paid. I'm not worried about anything else. I'm not worried about the fans. I'm not worried about any attention from anybody. I'm just worried about getting paid. A mercenary works for the highest bidder, whoever has the best offers is where I'll work. Right now, that's Villain Enterprise. For the foreseeable future, it looks like they are going to have the best offer."Aside from Ring of Honor, Gordon currently appears on the VETV YouTube series, following the stable of Marty Scurll, Brody King, and PCO, where he's driving the group around, or getting fired by Scurll for ordering a steak medium-well done. The new series helps elevate the wrestlers outside of the weekly ROH show: "We want to be able to provide ourselves with a platform to show another side of us that you wouldn't get the opportunity to see with the 20 minutes, 10 minutes," Gordon told GameSpot. "Sometimes we're given, 'Just fight.'"While Gordon has made a name for himself in the past year, especially at 2018's All In where he won the Battle Royale and faced Jay Lethal for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship, he's currently riding across the country with an exceptionally popular stable with some big names. "Marty is just the mastermind," Gordon said. "He's a genius when it comes to professional wrestling, not only as the technician, but as the character and he's helped me a lot. Brody's helped me a lot. Almost like the big brother and then PCO is just, he's not human so you can learn a lot from somebody who's not human. And it's just, I think with all four of us we may just complete each other. We each have strengths that complement each other, and I think together we're just the total package."Gordon will be competing for the World Television Championship match at the Death Before Dishonor PPV on September 27. He'll be taking on Tracy Williams and champion Shane Taylorin a three-way battle for the title. Gordon says he's not worried, and it should be easy for him, as he's beaten both his competitors in the past.Ring of Honor's Death Before Dishonor PPV can be watched on Fite.tv. The show begins at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET and costs $35 through Fite. If you're a member of Honor Club, you can receive 50% off your purchase for the event. Info from Gamespot.com

Respawn has posted a tweet of a strange message between Apex Legends' new character, Crypto, and his mom ahead of the battle royale game's Season 3 launch. It's seemingly a letter from the hacker thanking his mother for her advice in regards to asking out a cute girl. Wait a bit though and it's revealed the message has been carefully encrypted and is actually about Crypto's plans."As I'm sure you've heard I took your advice and I went to the Games," the real message reads. "It's the only way I can get close to the people who framed me. All I had to do was distract the Syndicate long enough to get 'Crypto's' credentials into the system. You were right about the qualifying matches. I looked into it and there's no way I could have gotten in. So I went with Plan B: I took down the Repulsor tower. I had no idea it would be so insane. I'm hoping the damage was enough to close King's Canyon so I can hitch a ride on the dropship off Solace, and find the evidence I need somewhere in New Dawn."pic.twitter.com/rjyQtSXEp0 — Apex Legends (@PlayApex) September 24, 2019In the letter, Crypto is referencing the events that transpired in the cinematic trailer for Apex Legends Season 2, which saw the flyers and leviathans invade King's Canyon after the destruction of the repulsor tower. Unfortunately for Crypto, we know his actions didn't stop the Apex Games. The Syndicate continued the blood sport, utilizing a reworked battlefield. This might explain the subsequent hacking attempts during the final weeks of Season 2, though, as well as Crypto's attempts to access the Singh Labs to find a space elevator. He needs a new way off-world since his previous plan failed."I just hope this isn't like last time, and I don't get blown up before I go off-planet. (Sorry. Rejection leads to gallows humor.)," the message continues. "Thank you for always being the mom I needed. I'll be in touch. Try not to worry too much. What's that you always say? It's hard to be scared when you're prepared."Respawn could just be releasing this message as a teaser to create more hype for Crypto, who's believed to be coming to Apex Legends alongside the launch of Season 3 on October 1. However, it does continue to support the speculation that Apex Legends might be getting a brand-new map at some point. New Dawn could be a reference to Dawn--a multiplayer map in Titanfall Online, a canceled free-to-play game. Dawn was set in a massive desert environment that was filled with downed warships and makeshift buildings following the devastating space battle between the IMC and Frontier Militia in the planet's upper atmosphere. Sounds like an ideal location for a new battle royale map. We'll have to wait and see though.Info from Gamespot.com

First revealed during Tokyo Game Show earlier this month, Classic Mode is described as being closer to the original game's turn-based combat. Typically, FF7 Remake uses a real-time battle system; as you attack, you fill up your ATB gauge, which will then let you pause the action and execute commands. In Classic Mode, however, your attacks are automated, so you strictly need to focus on executing commands when your ATB gauge is full. The post also shares some details about Summons and materia. In order to call a Summon, you'll need to equip a character with Summon materia. With that in tow, a special gauge will gradually fill up as you battle, and once it is full, you can call in that Summon. One of the Summons we've previously gotten a look at is Ifrit. According to the blog post, "Ifrit battles independently but you can also command him to perform special abilities, and once the timer drops to zero, he'll unleashes his ultimate attack: Hellfire."Final Fantasy 7 Remake launches for PS4 on March 3, 2020. Square Enix has previously said the remake will encompass multiple parts, with this releasing focusing strictly on Midgar.
