The first update for Monster Hunter World's new Iceborne expansion arrives this month, but that's not the only new content players have to look forward to soon. In keeping with Monster Hunter tradition, Iceborne is getting some crossover skins next month, and these are based on another big Capcom game: Resident Evil 2.Beginning this November, players will be able to unlock costumes based on Resident Evil 2 protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. That's not all; it appears the Handler is also getting a new outfit that hilariously transforms her into Mr. X. You can watch the first trailer for the Resident Evil costumes below.Leon and Claire join the hunt in #Iceborne. Watch out though: they're not the only ones wandering these parts... pic.twitter.com/32sAmYf5yq — Monster Hunter (@monsterhunter) October 4, 2019Of course, it wouldn't be a proper Resident Evil crossover if zombies weren't involved, and it appears zombified versions of hunters will also be added, although it's unclear if these are separate outfits or if they're an effect caused by certain monsters. Resident Evil 2's infamous tofu Easter egg is also being added as a weapon accessory. In the meantime, Iceborne's first update rolls out for PS4 and Xbox One next week, on October 10. This patch will introduce the fearsome Rajang to the game, along with some other content. In December, PS4 players will receive an exclusive Event Quest that adds armor inspired by Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. We awarded the new Monster Hunter World expansion a 9/10 in our Iceborne review. "Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is at its best when you’re fighting tooth and nail against something that you know could crush you within its teeth in a second, even though this might feel like it came at the expense of a more interesting narrative," critic Ginny Woo wrote.Info from Gamespot.com

We've finally returned to the moon in Destiny 2 Shadowkeep, and we're already finding a bunch of new cool gear hidden on the lunar surface. The new expansion includes a few Exotics to chase, including Eriana's Vow and Deathbringer--but if you're itching for a new Exotic now, Xur has you covered. The Agent of the Nine is back in the solar system and his inventory has changed, making him worth a visit. The end of the second year of Destiny 2 means that Xur's pool of Exotics now includes the non-raid weapons and armor that were available throughout the Annual Pass seasons. If you missed anything from Black Armory, Season of the Drifter, or Season of Opulence, Xur can now provide. Here's where to find him and what he's offering.Where Is Xur?Head to Nessus to find Xur waiting for you on Calus's barge. Spawn in at the Watcher's Grave transmat point and head north, then climb aboard the ship to find Xur hanging out on its left edge. What Is Xur Selling?Despite it being his first visit of Shadowkeep, Xur isn't offering much that will be too exciting to existing players. For his weapon, you can snag Wardcliff Coil, an Exotic rocket launcher that remains a Crucible favorite. What's probably more of note is the fact that Xur's Fated Engram, which gives you one Exotic you don't already have per week, now includes more possibilities. Xur's inventory has been expanded to include all the random Year Two Exotic drops from the Annual Pass, which means Exotic armor from the Season of Opulence is now available from the expensive engram. If you're a PC or Xbox One player taking advantage of Cross-Save, you can now potentially get Wavesplitter from the Fated Engram. Xur also carries the Five of Swords challenge card that lets you add modifiers to standard Nightfall Strikes, and if you're looking to work through Annual Pass content from Year Two, you can also get an Invitation of the Nine bounty from him. Hearthstone is introducing another of its annual Halloween events, this time with an eldritch horror twist. The series of events continues the year-long story that has been tracking through its various expansions, while also introducing a load of new events, a few special bundles, and the reintroduction of older cards into Standard play.First, the game will introduce a series of spooky Tavern Brawls starting on October 8. Doom in the Tomb will come in two parts. The first week will let you play as a League of Evil member in a Haunted Temple, and completing the single-player run in record time will earn you rewards. Finishing in an hour will net you a Rastakhan's Rumble pack, and if you can manage it in 40 minutes you'll get a golden Ancient Mysteries card. The second week will be similar, but you'll play as Reno Jackson and the timed challenges will get you a golden Temple Berserker and golden Generous Mummy, respectively. The third special Tavern Brawl will be The Haunted Carousel, with a Rise of Shadows card pack to win. Also during the event period, Blizzard is bringing 23 cards back from Wild and putting them into Standard rotation for a limited time. Most notably it includes some fan favorite cards that have been taken out of Standard, like N'Zoth the Corruptor, Sylvanas Windrunner, and Ragnaros. These will be "Event" cards, which means all players will be granted temporary copies for the duration of the event. You can see the full list of returning cards below. The Arena will get its own special twist too with the return of a Dual-Class "Hallow's End dress-up party." Now that cooler heads have prevailed and Spider-Man is firmly back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the details on how exactly Disney Studios and Sony Pictures reconciled are being revealed. As it turns out, Spider-Man really is the hero of this story.Disney CEO Bob Iger appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new book--which we read and found to be packed with strange stories about the MCU and Star Wars--and revealed precisely how Tom Holland, who plays the world's favorite web-slinger, had a crucial role in bringing Spidey back to the MCU. It all started at Disney's D23 convention when Holland appeared to promote the upcoming animated film Onward and thanked MCU fans for supporting him as Spider-Man. After that, Holland sprung into action."After D23, Tom reached out to folks that work for me and said, 'Can I please have Bob's email address or phone number,'" Iger said during his Kimmel interview. After getting the CEO's phone number, he made a call."He cried on the phone. No, not really," Iger joked. "It was clear that he cared so much and we care a lot about him. And he's a great Spider-Man, isn't he?"Between Holland's call and fans continuing to clamor for some resolution, Iger said he decided to give it one last shot."So after I got off the phone with him, I made a couple of phone calls to our team at Disney Studios," he recalled. "And then I decided to call the head of Sony, and I said, 'We've got to figure out a way to get this done. For Tom and for the fans.' And we did."For Iger, Holland's call and the fans seem to have reminded him about a vital piece of the puzzle that was overlooked. "Sometimes, you know, companies when they negotiate or people when they're negotiating with one another, they kind of forget there are other folks out there that actually matter," he said. With the deal now closed, it's been announced that Spider-Man will appear in at least one more MCU movie, with executive producer Kevin Feige continuing to work on Sony's Spider-Man films for the remainder of the new deal. Of course, they could always strike yet another deal when this one ends. For now, we know the next time we'll see Spider-Man on the big screen is when the currently untitled third film in the Spidey franchise opens on July 16, 2021. That is unless Marvel decides to sneak the character into one of the upcoming Phase 4 films already announced.Info from Gamespot.com

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is out now, and players are trying their best to boost their Guardian's power levels to complete the campaign and get raid-ready. In honor of the release of the new expansion, Bungie is giving players a chance to acquire a free Powerful Engram via the postmaster, providing Guardians--returning and newcomers alike--a leg up on the power grind. Last year, Bungie introduced an exclusive Rewards program for users who have an account with Bungie.net, allowing them the chance for new rewards and special offers from the developer. To get this Powerful Engram, you'll need to head over to Bungie's rewards program page. If you are already signed up with Bungie.net and have your main Destiny 2 account linked, then you can instantly get the Powerful Engram by confirming to get a special reward. However, for new players jumping in for the first time via New Light, you'll need to advance your starting character after the game's new introduction, which will allow you to gain the piece of loot from the postmaster in the Tower. This Powerful Engram is a great opportunity to get some new loot fast. However, for players looking to make a more significant impact on your character's growth in Shadowkeep's endgame, it might be better to wait until you reach the soft-cap at 900 Power. From 750 to 900 Power, you'll acquire a steady flow of loot from the main missions and activities, which makes the power grind mostly relaxed. Once you reach 900, however, better loot is harder to come by. Following the soft-cap, Powerful Engrams are essential when trying to progress past 900. Simply put, you'll need to ensure that your Powerful Engrams are better spent on your character. This growth will eventually lead up to Shadowkeep's massive endgame activity, the new Raid known as the Garden of Salvation. As a return to The Black Garden, you'll have to finish the campaign and get to at least 890 Power to take on the six-member activity. For players looking for more details on the best ways to get raid-ready, check out our many guides that lay out all the tips and clues on how best to improve your Guardian and be prepared for Shadowkeep's endgame. Pokemon Sword and Shield's animal cam-style 24-hour livestream has been running for a little over four hours now, and if you're a fan of ambient forest sounds, it's certainly been great. However, if you were hoping to get a look at some new Gen 8 Pokemon, the stream has been severely lacking thus far.In the few hours the broadcast has been airing, we've only seen brief glimpses of some existing Pokemon such as Pikachu, the mushroom-like Morelull, and the ghostly Phantump. Impidimp, the strange imp Pokemon who was first discovered in Sword and Shield's E3 2019 demo, also made a rare appearance, but aside from that, the stream has almost entirely consisted of forest sounds and the occasional rustling bush.Serebii Update: Impidimp shown on the live stream https://t.co/gDbXkHSvkT pic.twitter.com/eRAKTCuPRG — Serebii.net (@SerebiiNet) October 4, 2019The most exciting moment so far happened around 8:50 AM PT, when a never-before-seen Pokemon quickly ran across the screen. However, the Pokemon was only visible for a split-second, so if you were looking away the moment it appeared--as I was--then you probably missed it, and there's no telling when it'll make another appearance.Serebii Note: A presently unidentified Pokémon ran off on the right hand side of the stream https://t.co/gDbXkHSvkT pic.twitter.com/Rf2qq61AZy — Serebii.net (@SerebiiNet) October 4, 2019Despite the fact nothing of note has happened yet, there are still roughly 27,000 people tuned in to the broadcast as of this writing. You still have a chance to tune in as well, as the 24-hour stream will continue until 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET tomorrow, October 5. You can watch the livestream here on GameSpot.Info from Gamespot.com

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint has plenty of challenging enemies to fight, who each demand you to be at your absolute tactical best. Compared to its predecessor, enemies are far more intelligent and organized. Aside from the special ops-trained Wolves unit, one of the most significant additions to the enemy roster are drones, and gosh, are they a handful. If you play stealth, the best way to avoid these mechanical headaches is to cover yourself with Cloaking Spray, which can make you invisible to them for a limited time. However, if you didn't choose the Panther class, then this repellant isn't available until after you complete the side mission called "Cover Up"--which is given to you by Skell scientist Christina Cromwell. You can only meet Cromwell after you rescue Jace Skell and take him back to Erewhon. That said, the version of the Cloaking Spray you're given lasts 30 seconds instead of a full-minute and offers +10% Drone Evasion instead of +100%. We highly recommend unlocking the Panther class if you're ever considering tackling a mission stealthily.Your only other option for taking out Drones "quietly" is waiting for it to get to a side of the map that isn't populated by guards. A well-placed shot from a powerful sniper rifle should suffice, but still, cross your fingers that the resulting explosion doesn't alert the opposition. It's not the best, but there are simply no guaranteed options to incapacitating them silently. If you don't mind fighting drones directly and alerting everyone around you, then stock up on EMP grenades and rockets. Ground drones can't access elevated positions, so it's best to attack from there to inhibit their capabilities. For the more powerful drones, it's best to cheese it and use an attack helicopter with rockets to destroy them, especially if you're under-leveled.In Breakpoint, drones are a constant headache no matter the approach you choose to take, but it's best to be prepared. If you find any other useful tactics, let us know in the comments below. Otherwise, we'll be updating this guide with more findings in the coming days. For more about Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, check out our spoiler-free beginner's guide and our guide about how blueprints work. Even before its release, the standalone Joker movie was a lightning rod for controversy. There were those who loved it and those who loathed it, whether any of them had seen the film or not. The moon is full of secrets and story tidbits to discover in Destiny 2's latest expansion, Shadowkeep. Undoubtedly the upcoming raid, the Garden of Salvation, will have a host of its own mysteries to discover. But one of the biggest puzzles related to the expansion isn't actually in the game at all--it's related to the physical Collector's Edition that Bungie sold ahead of release, and a hidden puzzle that's requiring the Destiny 2 community to work together to solve it.The Collector's Edition game packed with moon-centric story supplements, including a journal that sheds some light on the strange object quest-giver Eris Morn discovered there, which kicks off the expansion's story. It also includes a Hive Cryptoglyph, a collector's item that's meant to sit on your desk. The Cryptoglyph (which is also a big part of the in-game mechanics for unlocking new gear on the moon) is also a combination lock, and those who bought the Collector's Edition had to figure out how to open it using clues hidden throughout the package.Inside the Cryptoglyph was a slip of paper with a URL that led to a Bungie site, as well as a code to redeem. The code awarded anyone who'd solved their Cryptoglyph with a unique in-game emblem to show off their puzzling skills, but it also provided an image on the URL page made up of a series of strange runes. On Reddit, community members quickly started to put the images together, discovering that when they were overlaid, the runes formed words. Destiny 2 Recent News Where Is Xur Today? Destiny 2 Exotic Location, Weapon, Armor (October 4-8) Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Review In Progress - A Giant Leap Destiny 2 Horned Wreath Location: Where To Go For Essence Of Vanity Quest Destiny 2 Captive Cord Location: Where To Go For Essence Of Failure Quest Destiny 2 Shadowkeep: How To Power Above 900 And Get Raid Ready As it turns out, though, the puzzle is extremely complex. CE buyers each got one random URL in their Cryptoglyphs, of a possible five. But as it turns out, once you've redeemed your code, you can visit each of the other URLs as well, uncovering more pieces of the puzzle. The result of putting all the rune images together is five big pages of text related to Destiny 2's Hive lore.As of this writing, the messages have been mostly deciphered, but not completely. In fact, the Reddit post tracking the puzzle reports that more images are needed. It includes instructions on how to send the images to the team deciphering them, and you can see the messages as they've been compiled so far as well. What does it all mean? It's not quite clear yet, although the puzzle-solvers report they'll issue transcripts once they have the messages fully deciphered. The Cryptoglyph definitely hides more of Destiny's ever-expanding and perennially weird story. Given that this is Destiny, it seems likely there might be something more, like clues to a hidden Exotic weapon, similar to the way Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected required players to discover them within the game. The Black Armory also saw a major all-hands-on-deck puzzle with Niobe Labs. We'll have to wait and see what the Destiny 2 brain trust discovers.Info from Gamespot.com

Marvel's Avengers was officially unveiled at E3 2019, with a cinematic trailer depicting the fall of the Avengers after they fail to stop villains from attacking San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. The game features both solo and multiplayer missions, allowing you to choose from a roster of heroes and battle the forces of evil with friends online.Avengers comes to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on May 15, 2020, but we were able to get our hands on the game's pre-alpha build at NYCC 2019. Our two-part demo consisted of the opening Golden Gate Bridge mission and a wave-based training session featuring Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. We also learned that Kamala is actually the star of the game; she's the one who gets the Avengers back on their feet after the Golden Gate incident.Following our demo, we spoke with Scot Amos, studio head at developer Crystal Dynamics. Scot talked to us about how the game stacks up against the Marvel Cinematic Universe, post-launch content, microtransactions, and more. The following interview has been edited for clarity and readability.GameSpot: One thing that's on my mind with this game is that you can't get around the existence of the MCU.Scott Amos: Never heard of it! [Laughs]What is it like having to work around presuppositions people may have about Marvel now because of the MCU?I think the best thing I can say is we've done this before at Crystal, right? Tomb Raider in 2013. Crystal has been around for 26, going on 27 years, and have been the caretakers of Tomb Raider, only to then rebuild it and reimagine it in 2013. We had this exact kind of storm then. People asked, "Where's my Lara Croft? Where's my ponytails, and my sunglasses, my dual pistols?" And there was some heat to take. It's just like, "No, no. Trust us. Come with us on this journey." It's the idea that we know what you love, we actually know why that works, we have a vision. That actually is what drew us together with Marvel, when we talked to them about how we do epic storytelling with the human spirit. It's like, well, that's what we do with Lara Croft. That's what they want to do with their heroes. So for us, it's less about any one version of Marvel's heroes via TV shows or magazines or comic books or movies. Instead, there's a benefit to having access to 80 years of their history. Saying we can go and cherry-pick the cool moments, ideas, and elements of things that haven't been done yet because we're not going to be a one-and-done. We're going to launch this game, and we're going to have regions and new heroes showing up post-launch. That 80 years will become 81 years, and then 82 years, and so on. And so, we keep drawing all that stuff as it gets added to it. So we don't see it as anything other than a boon for us because millions of people who didn't know what a Hulk was 10 years ago are now wearing T-shirts that say Hulk on them. For us, it's become a lifestyle. So, in the sense of one version over the other, people will have their favorites. They always will. Our job is to interpret them in a way that it feels fresh but still familiar. Are there plans to reflect happenings in the MCU in additional content down the road? We've got the Black Panther sequel, Dr. Strange, and Shang Chi coming up.I will put it this way: Marvel's great at thinking of all of their pieces of the world holistically, whether it's other games, movies, TV shows, or comics. Bill Rosemann, who's their VP of creative at Marvel Games, he's a master editor. He's been at Marvel for 25 or 26 years, so he knows everything that's going on across the board for all the mediums. We don't own that world, that's their world, but we have Bill. He will help steer us in the right direction and say, "In view of the entire world, here's what would make sense. Here's what may or may not play well together."But it's never ever a direct, "This has to tie into that." That's not ever the intention. MCU is an amazing thing, they have their world. You look at our game, and our world, and what our universe is, and our versions of the Avengers, and I think there's room for both because we have different ways of accessing them. People are going to sit in a theater and watch something, that's one thing. We're going to watch at home on TV or streaming, that's another thing. You going to read a comic, that's another thing. Nobody's sitting there saying, "That doesn't look like Hulk in this comic." That's not the intent. It's always, "Here's the right shape and size for the medium that you're consuming."There has been some backlash with Crystal's character design. How do you respond to that?Come with us on this journey. We'll make you proud.Do you have a timeline of when additional heroes will be added to the game? We're not discussing specifics on dates or cadence or anything like that yet. But we keep saying, "On an ongoing basis." We don't want people to ever get bored or to run out of stuff to do.We've learned from a lot of very, very good products out there of what does or doesn't work, and how quickly these amazing players who are particular fanatics can consume content. So how do we do this in a way that's smart, and keeps them engaged, and rewards them for their time? That's actually the biggest thing for us. If you want to play more, we want to give you more stuff to do.Speaking of things that work and don't work, what is Crystal Dynamics' approach as far as microtransactions or season passes?Simplest version is quite literally you have the core game. We're going to keep adding heroes, new regions, and new stories at no additional costs on an ongoing basis. We have cosmetics. We've been very transparent about there being outfits you can only earn in-game and outfits you can only buy from the marketplace. That's okay, if you want to invest into that particular lifestyle in a deep way. People buy Hulk T-shirts right now. You can buy outfits on our marketplace, but there's tons of them you can earn simply by doing missions in the game. So that's our path of looking at it, saying there's no paywalls for gameplay. There's never going to be an, "I can't actually get this hero because I have to go do some other transactions." We want the heroes to be like the Avengers. They keep growing and evolving. Is there a costume that you're particularly proud of?I love Joe Fixit. It's one of those things of reaching back into the archives and looking at it, then doing our version. We have Hulk in this beautiful, purple pinstriped suit with a fedora and the silk tie, it's all unexpected. People who know, they're like, "Oh my God, you have Joe Fixit. What?!"That becomes something we get to take, and own, and do more. So people will start seeing that as, "Wow, I have so much agency over these characters. I can invest myself and make them mine, as opposed to some other version or vision that's being directed towards me. This is mine to direct in the way I want to play it." I think it will quickly change the story the more they get to see.Is there a particular story arc, superhero, or villain you would really love to see brought into this game?I think we're doing it. That's why we have A.I.M., a group who's not a mustache-twirling villain. They're sitting here saying, "No, science is the way. Logic is the way. Reason is the way." Unchecked, uncontrolled powers are dangerous. We need to be able to think of this almost as an evolution of these kinds of companies right there. Look around at four or five tech companies you can think of today. "We'll all be better if we're connected, and all very similar, and all have our ways to talk to each other." If you take that to maybe an illogical extreme, you get to see a sense that A.I.M.'s not vile. They're actually doing this because they think this is the better way for this planet to evolve. [Then you have] heroes who are saying, "No, the natural order of things is that people with the right power used in the right ways can actually benefit society." So that immediately creates that kind of conflict for us. That's a perfect story that we get to dive into that nobody else has in this way.Any particular, maybe B-tier hero that you're hoping to sneak in there?Always. [Laughs]I guess he's not B-tier presently, but I have to ask because I'm very much a Star-Lord fan. There are so many characters, I think Marvel has over 9,000 characters in their 80 years of history, which is insane, right? Because even when we first talked about this, it wasn't, "You have to use this list." It was, "What do you guys think? Do you want to make a new hero?"And there's so much to draw from. It's very difficult to think we can be smarter than these guys. These guys have owned it and mastered it. So I think we have this incredible mantle of responsibility to both pay true loyalty to the fiction and the fan, but also add a little spice of something they haven't seen yet. Something new that they get to play with.I'm salivating about all the things that we can do and the amount of heroes that we want to add. I just hope when the players get their hands on it, they say, "Yes, we want more." That's the benefit of Crystal. We have a great community management team. We have a great world that we can reach into and listen to those folks and react. There was a possibility early on of the game starring a custom character? It is not off the table. I'll put it that way.Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is your central figure. Why specifically choose her as the protagonist? The best thing for her is that she's fresh-faced, right? She's new. She hasn't been a part of other mediums. She's been in comics, but [only since] 2013. It's new enough that particularly the gaming fans will be like, "Who's this character? Maybe I've seen her in other games or maybe comics or maybe an animated series." It just gave us a new hook. This is kind of a cool character that has some great relatable problems that I can actually tap into, that's on the cutting edge of becoming this major star that aligns well with anybody."Oh, you have power that you don't know how to control yet. Oh, you are a fan of the Avengers, kind of like me." So she actually has a very good viewpoint that very much synchronizes with the heroes and the players. Then you look around that, and you have the old guard, core heroes like [Tony] Stark and Thor. Now you have this point of view of, "I know these characters, and I love those characters just Kamala does." I think it's the magic mix that we've always wanted to do.When Ms. Marvel first came onto the scene there was a lot of praise for the comic for featuring someone of a background you don't often get to see in comics. Do you see this game as a chance to elevate more diverse characters like that?Absolutely. If you look at Tomb Raider and look at all the stuff we've done at Crystal's history, we're huge proponents of breaking new ground and putting people out there, new heroes and heroines that people haven't really experienced. We're so damn proud of our studio and how much we care about every one of these heroes that we've worked with, be it our own, Tomb Raider, and now our own Avengers. It's a big deal for us that we want these characters not just be relatable, but people you want to hang out with. You start blurring that line really quickly. And we have a great story from Tomb Raider 2013 where we actually had a fan who was literally at the end of her rope, kind of in a mental breakdown kind of state. But then she actually played our game, and it changed her life. It literally pulled her back from committing suicide to saying, "What would Lara do?" We wrote a character and a story that connected with her so much fictionally that it actually physically changed her life. So if we can save a life with a video game, that's freakin' worth it. The idea that we have that kind of impact just makes my heart flutter. That is pretty incredible. Since you mentioned Tomb Raider, would you say any of the DNA from those games is translated into Avengers? It is, for sure. We have folks like Noah Hughes, our studio creative director. He's been at Crystal 26 out of 27 years. So he knows everything. Scott Crows is our tech director of 21 years. These guys helped us reshape how we build games, the way we build our technology, and the way we actually build the versions of our gameplay. [We have] new blood like Shauna Sky, who comes from the Naughty Dog, who's a creative director for this project. You have this nice blend of people who've done things a certain way and have worked and lived through the tomb Raider series, and said, "No, this is how we should really do this story-telling moment." And then we added other folks like Dave Fifield, who comes off of the Halo and Call Of Duty franchises, and we talked about co-op, and bigger worlds, and what it means to play together.I think we have this huge laundry list of people at Crystal blended with a lot of new blood that we had to add, including our new studio in Bellevue and our partners working out of Eidos Montreal. Oh my God, they're so good at what they do. Blending all these groups together has let us assemble these heroes in a way that we didn't even know was possible when we started this project. But I think it has helped transform us into a better company because of stuff we can do with it now.Info from Gamespot.com

At New York Comic Con, Marvel Games announced a special edition for the upcoming Marvel's Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics. Called the "Earth's Mightiest" Edition, it comes with collectibles signifying all five major Avengers characters, noting that each item was "inspired by actual in-game events and items."The image shown on-screen includes a statue of Captain America, Black Widow insignia, Hulk bobblehead, Thor's hammer Mjolnir keychain, and Iron Man blueprints, representing the five main playable characters. It also includes an Avengers emblem, and a photo of the five assembled Avengers with a young Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. The inclusion of Kamala is an important touch, because she's a big part of the story. The photo is taken from her visit to A-Day, where the game kicks off with some tragic events. But the incident also results in giving her powers, and as we also learned at the panel, she's a playable character. Given that the A-Day incident appears to disillusion some of the Avengers, Ms. Marvel may just be the perfect person to revive their heroism again. Plus, in the comics, Kamala is herself a big fan of superheroes.More details on the Earth's Mightiest Edition, including a price, were not disclosed during the panel. Marvel's Avengers is coming on May 15, 2020. The panel also revealed a release date for the PS VR game Iron Man VR.Info from Gamespot.com

You spend almost all your time in Neo Cab sat behind the wheel of a cab, but as a player, you never get to steer it. Instead of choosing routes and getting to destinations quickly, you're deciding which passengers to pick up and how you're going to talk to them. It's the near future, and the game's protagonist, Lina, has just moved to the "automated city" of Los Ojos, California, a glittering, impersonal metropolis surrounded by desert. Lina, who is planning to move in with her best friend Savy, is one of the few drivers in a town that now runs mostly on self-driving cars owned and operated by Capra, a monolithic tech giant (and clear Tesla/Apple analogue) that has fundamentally changed American life. These are Neo Cab's best features--its examination of what it means to live in futuristic cities and the value of the human connections Lina manages to forge makes for a compelling experience.Neo Cab has the framework of a mystery, and its initial hook is that you're solving the case of your best friend's sudden disappearance. But ultimately, the search for Savy takes a back seat to, well, the people in your back seat. This is a game about the susceptibility of people working within a gig economy, what happens when a single company is given too much power, and how humanity can and will adapt to the changes that seem to be on the horizon. It's a clever examination of the world we live in today and the world we could find ourselves in 10 years from now. Neo Cab is well-written and enjoyable, and it's consistently engaging despite some presentation issues. For each night that Lina works, you're given a few choices that dictate how the story unfolds. You get to choose which passengers you're going to pick up from your map, and once they're in your car, you get to make choices during your conversations with them. Those choices will affect how the conversations go, what state of mind Lina will find herself in afterwards, and--crucially--what rating your customers will give you at the end of the ride. A few passengers are "Prime" members who will only ride with you if you have a five-star average, and the average is seemingly calculated based on the last few rides rather than your lifetime performance, so a single unhappy customer can tank it and impede your search for Savy. It's a familiar gameplay model, but thanks to strong writing, interesting characters, and the script's willingness to dive into the complexities of the technology and social issues it explores, Neo Cab's choices consistently feel significant. Neo Cab's greatest success is in how it feels simultaneously futuristic and of its time. Although Neo Cab has some fun with its world (there's talk of infinite timelines and giant worms that roam below the city), it's also depicting a world you can easily imagine living in, one that is more convenient but also less personal, where privacy has eroded and the job market demands intensely specific specialization. Lina's outsider perspective in the city makes her a perfect player surrogate, meaning that I found myself wondering how I would respond to the questions my passengers posed, not just how Lina might feel. The conversational options you can choose from are dictated by Lina's mood. Early on, Lina is gifted a "Feelgrid" wrist strap, which glows different colors depending on how she's feeling. The Feelgrid can indicate if certain options are going to be opened up or closed off; if Lina's in a good mood, the green glowing light on her wrist will prevent her from being able to choose aggressive or angry responses, or if she's got a blue light to indicate that she's sad, it might allow you to pick a downbeat dialogue option. It's not the deepest system, but it's an interesting approach that gives you a clear sense of how Lina is reacting at any given moment, and the in-game discussions around the ramifications of openly sharing your feelings at all times are interesting, too.You might expect a game set predominantly inside a car would eventually grow tedious or samey, but the stream of characters that step into the Neo Cab keeps the game interesting. The way each passenger is animated tells you something about their lives; some won't crack a smile, while others will immerse themselves in screens the moment they step into the car, while a few more outlandish figures are used to build up Neo Cab's increasingly strange world. There's the young girl who has spent her life locked into a horrifying suit of armor for her own "protection"; the gold-hearted ex-con with a secret; the German pals who are convinced that Lina is a robot. The passengers not only help to flesh out the politics of the game world, but often offer discussions that will force you to confront numerous life philosophies. Some characters worship technology, while others go so far as to condemn cars entirely; many relish human interaction, while others prefer to be driven by a machine. The most consistent feeling is isolation, and Neo Cab does a great job of examining the straightforward benefits of simply talking to others without putting too fine a point on it.Like the passengers in the back of Lina's car, every player is going to have their own thoughts and feelings on automation, capitalism, and the way technology can and will alter our lives. As such, the game presents multiple perspectives while also suggesting that we should be wary of any company that aims to build a monopoly, and it gives players the options to explore the grey areas in their conversation options whenever possible (which isn't to say the game is impartial; by the ending, it has taken a clear stance on the dangers posed by Capra). Some passengers can become friends with Lina, or at least begrudging acquaintances, and developing these relationships and learning the ins and outs of how these characters operate--and how living in an automated city has shaped them--is a pleasure that builds over time. Neo Cab is, ultimately, a hopeful game; it's about the importance of human connections in a world that has made it easier to stick to yourself.Neo Cab's conversations provide a rich tapestry of lives that show how inescapable Capra's influence is, but while you can build a picture of the city in your mind easily enough, the focus on the cab means that Los Ojos feels visually underdeveloped. Whenever the camera cuts to outside your car for a moment, assets will pop in from nowhere on the side of the road as you drive past, and the streets you see are all functionally identical and empty, meaning that sometimes characters will describe an area in a way that does not match up with what you see. The dissonance between how the city is described and how it's visualized can be isolating, and I found myself having to actively ignore any imagery I saw of the city itself, focusing on the game's words over its visuals. There are a few additional technical issues in Neo Cab that can take away from the experience. Animations don't always match up to text; during one conversation, the dialogue told me that a character had fallen asleep, but their avatar was visibly awake, their open eyes darting around. The driving animation is canned, too, which means that Lina might reference taking a left during conversation, but you won't see her make the turn. Neo Cab often requires you to fill in the blanks, but these stumbles often make the game world and characters, which are fleshed out so well in text, feel more artificial. There are other issues with the game's presentation that are inconvenient, or take away from the experience. There's no conversation log, which means that if you skip something accidentally or miss a piece of conversation, you can't go back to see what it was--a real possibility, especially since there's no voice acting. There are also very few music tracks in the game, and hearing them loop became tiresome by the game's ending. The autosaves are weird, too; after the game ended I wanted to jump back to a specific point to check out a passenger I hadn't collected the first time, but found that the game had saved frequently up until the halfway point and then stopped, so aside from my most recent save right near the game's ending, everything else was from hours earlier. These are not game-breaking by any means, but the game is lacking a few basic gaming creature comforts.Neo Cab's interactions still manage to be interesting and feel important despite these issues. While I didn't feel like the decisions I made had a tremendous impact on how the game ended, the experiences I had through the six in-game days that led up to the conclusion felt personalized to how I played. Certain characters that were name-checked never appeared within my game, or plotlines that started up were never finished, but I always had some idea of what I could have done differently to see these things through. The overarching mystery plot isn't so great, and once the credits rolled it felt like certain things I'd done, and the strict budgeting of my limited income, were far less important than the game had made me think they were. But Neo Cab's main appeal is in the side-stories presented by your passengers, and in the relationships that form between them and Lina. Most passengers can be collected multiple times, and stories will play out across several trips. I jumped back into Neo Cab after the credits rolled not to see if I could change the ending, but because I wanted to delve deeper into the lives of the people I had met and try to follow up on the storylines I hadn't seen all the way through in a single playthrough.Neo Cab might suffer from inconsistencies and presentation issues in some places, but as a depiction of a near-future society corrupted by tech fetishization, and an exploration of how humans are adapting to automation and the rise of the gig economy, it's got plenty to say about how important it is that we all look out for one another. This is a forward-thinking game, but the issues it explores are extremely relevant in 2019, which makes for an engaging, stimulating narrative experience, even if the central mystery of your friend's disappearance is not particularly interesting.Info from Gamespot.com

At New York Comic-Con, HBO screened the full first episode of the upcoming TV adaptation of Watchmen, which returns to the alternate timeline of the original graphic novel but imagines a story set in the modern day.The new story centers around Angela Abar (Regina King), a masked vigilante named Lady Night who lives with her family in suburban Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the 30 years since Ozymandias's horrific cosmic attack in the final issue of Watchmen, the world has continued to drift further and further down the strange path characters like the villain (real name Adrian Veidt), Rorschach, and Dr. Manhattan started it down. Mutant squids occasionally rain from the sky--a phenomenon that is so common cities have their very own, completely run-of-the-mill alert system in place to let people know when they should pull their cars over or open their umbrellas. Streets are cleaned with specific vehicles for squid removal. Police wear masks and protect their identities after a coordinated attack (led by a white supremacist group called the 7th Cavalry) had them gunned down en masse in their homes.Said white supremacist group has "appropriated," in the words of showrunner Damon Lindelof during the Watchmen panel following the screening, the iconography and talking points of Rorschach, whose manifesto was posthumously circulated after Veidt's attack back in the graphic novel. The war between the police and the 7th Cavalry also involves the masked vigilante community, who have apparently sided with the police--but the real nature of their partnership and the specifics of the arrangement are left ambiguous. Watchmen never actually feels withholding, but it's decidedly cagey with the expository details. The world is familiar, in a way, but also entirely alien, and it's impossible to actually gauge what does and doesn't fall under the umbrella of normalcy, given the circumstances. New York Comic Con 2019 Marvel's Avengers "Earth's Mightiest" Collector's Edition Announced At NYCC Iron Man VR Release Date Announced At NYCC The Avengers Game Stars Ms. Marvel & 80 Years Of Comic History NYCC: The First Clip Of The Grudge Is F'd Up Star Trek Picard: New Character And Story Details Revealed At New York Comic-Con Take A Look At The New Birds Of Prey Costumes At NYCC As with the original graphic novel, the devil is squarely in the details. In order to really piece together some semblance of understanding, you're left to pick out the subtleties--at one point, images flash in rapid fire montage over the mirrored mask of a character named Looking Glass and there's the tiniest glimpse of a Mount Rushmore that includes Richard Nixon. Cops are no longer able to carry firearms freely and must instead adhere to a strict bureaucratic set of authorizations to allow them to even carry any weapon at all. Homes and neighborhoods look normal enough, but there's something just slightly off kilter about the design and aesthetics. Televisions are all projections, cell phones look different, cars are boxier. Characters casually make references to the statehood of Vietnam. It's as engaging as it is mysterious, bolstered entirely by the wholesale commitment of the actors and the energy of the bass-thumping electronica of the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score. Watchmen feels like it's cut from the same cloth as some of the best sci-fi of recent years, surreal genre experiments like Cary Joji Fukunaga's Maniac, or fellow graphic novel adaptation Snowpiercer, while still feeling inexplicably grounded in reality. The world itself may be alien, but the issues--the struggle against authority, the proliferation of white supremacy and the systems where it is able to grow and thrive--are anything but. We'll have a full review closer to Watchmen's premiere later this month, but suffice to say, we liked what we saw here. Visually, it's stunning. Symbolism and symmetry take center stage even in the most mundane shots, giving the entire episode an unmistakably choreographed feel. Absolutely nothing on screen is incidental or accidental, and fans of the comic will have no trouble at all making the visual connection to iconic panels, even if the subject matter and the characters are completely new and different. During the Q&A portion of the panel, the comic's co-creator and artist Dave Gibbons made a surprise appearance and explained that, even as he was working on the original 12 issues, what really made the story click for him was the moment he stopped thinking of it as a superhero story. "I started thinking of it as an alternate reality sci-fi comic that happened to involve superheroes," Gibbons explained. "That's when the nature of the thing started making sense to me."The pilot is steeped in that sensibility. Sure, superheroes play a major role, and yes, there's no shortage of commentary about the complicated interplay between vigilantism and heroism, but at its heart, Episode 1 feels like the start of something truly special for fans of science fiction television.Watchmen Season 1 premieres October 20 on HBO. Loot boxes continue to be a hot-button issue and, understandably, the practice of asking people to spend money for a chance to unlock in-game items that won't have any value outside of the game, is under more scrutiny now than ever. Recently, however, the discussion has been around whether purchasing loot boxes is akin to gambling. On this week's episode of the GameSpot After Dark Podcast, one of the topics of discussion is buying loot boxes in games versus buying packs of Magic the Gathering cards in real life. The discussion was prompted by a question from a reader, who notes the similarity to buying booster packs in Magic, which has avoided being scrutinized as a potential form of gambling. In the podcast we also discuss our time with Destiny 2, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Apple Arcade, Untitled Goose Game. Naturally, we also drift into off-topic territory for some fun times. Below you'll find all the necessary links to find the GameSpot After Dark podcast on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, and Google Play. We've also included an RSS link so you can put that into your podcast application of choice. If you want to read a transcript of the conversation, you can do that too.Where You Can ListenRSS FeedSpotifySoundcloudiTunesGoogle Play Magic The (Random) GatheringLucy: Magic the Gathering was mentioned last episode, and I thought that this might be a good way to see where you stand on Magic the Gathering booster packs versus loot boxes in games. The argument for loot boxes being gambling is that loot box returns skins, characters or weapons of variable value. For example, you can open a box that contains three common skins and one rare. Or, you can open a box with one common, two rares, and one legendary. In addition, you could buy those skins directly for coins using real money. Because of this direct monetary relationship of coins to skins, this means that each box has an actual dollar value that you can calculate, which is the very definition of gambling. However, Magic the Gathering has survived this gambling situation by claiming explicitly that each card is only worth 20 cents-Jake: Ooooooh, that's a lie.Lucy: Which is the cost of the booster pack, $3, divided by the total amount of cards in each pack, which is 15. This means that even if Jake pulled a $20 card-Jake: Never going to happen. Never going to happen.Kallie: Love using Jake as an example.Lucy: Wizards of the Coast will refuse to acknowledge its value and claim that card is only worth 20 cents. Of course, they host tournaments that requires players to bring decks with good and expensive cards, which means that they directly influence the cost of the cards. What do you all think of the current situation of loot boxes and microtransactions in gaming? And do you foresee this having a spillover effect into other markets? Thanks, Matt.Kallie: Peter is raising his hand.Jake: I want to clarify one thing quickly. The 20 cents thing actually makes sense. Because I actually pulled a $20 card not that long ago. But once again, Wizards of the Coast doesn't decide that value, that is decided by...Tamoor: Wizards of the Mainland.Jake: The people who play and figure out like, "Alright, this card is good for professional play." And then, if people see professional players buy, then everyone wants that card. Anyway, go ahead, Peter.Peter: So, there's a difference between virtual and physical goods and how you can create a market around those and make money off of them and trade them for intangible value in a sense. Cards can be used in a lot of different ways. Like, I do think buying a pack of cards is still gambling. But I think if we're going to get down to like the human experience, opening a pack of cards is way more fulfilling than opening a loot crate where you get like one thing.A deck of cards has like 13 things in it that you can consider and do things with. You can also trade with your friends and do a lot of stuff with it. I mean, a lot of what Magic the Gathering is, is that community of sharing, building decks, a lot of that. That's something that we just don't get from video games. But are you rolling the dice? Of course.Jake: Yeah, totally. That's a good point because even when I used to play, I'd go to a card shop and pull a good card that was worth a lot of money and immediately I'd just be like, "Actually, here, can I just have like $20 in store credit because I don't really want this card." And then I'd get more packs or maybe something else. Can't really do that with games. Well, I guess you kind of can with Steam, right?Peter: But not really, either. I mean, you're not ... I mean, maybe you can do it from a transactional standpoint, but there's not that community, the relationship building that comes from that sort of thing. You're doing it to a cold person on the other end of that thing.Lucy: I understand that, yeah.Peter: I can see why that comparison exists, but I don't know, I feel like Magic is ... they cannot change the value of these cards because they're trying to get around the fact that it's random. But at the same time, I feel like it's way more fulfilling to play Magic than open loot crates.Jake: Oh yeah, totally.Peter: Or rather, open Magic packs than open loot crates.Lucy: Have you seen … there was a YouTube channel called Open Boosters and a few years ago, I don't know how we found this video. It came up ... maybe in the algorithm or something. But there is a guy, he's doing-Tamoor: It was on Reddit. We found it on Reddit-Lucy: Oh, was it on Reddit?Tamoor: It was like wholesome videos or something like that.Lucy: God, it was so good. He was doing this ... he opened a pack of cards, and he was wearing the gloves and what was it called? The Black Lotus?Tamoor: Black Lotus. He pulled a Black Lotus-Jake: Oh, wow.Lucy: Which is like a $15,000 card. And just the ... I've never heard just like joy in some ... like, pure, unadulterated wholesome joy. And his hands started shaking-Tamoor: Immediately started ... and he was like, he went, "Holy PSSSSSHHHHH"Jake: It's okay, Lucy's already cussed a couple of times. You can say it-Lucy: No, no, no. That's what he did-Jake: Oh, he did? Okay.Peter: Are we not allowed to cuss?Jake: Well-Kallie: We try to stay away from the F-word.Jake: We're not supposed to say the F-word.Peter: Ah ...Lucy: Flip.Tamoor: But like, he went like ... you could see his hands shaking.Lucy: Like we talk about Overwatch a lot, and I'm past the point now where I buy loot boxes in Overwatch, even for seasonal events because I've just got that much gold, humblebrag, because I don't buy boxes anymore. And so, if there's a skin that I want, I can just buy it. But even at my-Jake: The 1%.Lucy: Even at the height of Overwatch, when I was actually buying boxes, I've not had a comparable moment. Even when I unlocked that particular D.Va skin, or you know, whatever. I've never felt joy like that guy finding the Black Lotus and maybe that's just because I live a sad life...-Jake: To be fair, not many people probably have felt the joy of pulling a Black Lotus-Lucy: Yeah, I was going to say because that's not a $15,000 skin.Peter: The thing is, a physical card, right? Like you can really assign a lot of false but emotional value to that objects. I mean, objects have power.Lucy: No, I mean, because yeah, people now you ... I mean, Pokemon cards, you can still find the collection that I started in the 90s, whereas in 20 years time, am I going to boot up my Blizzard account and go, "Oh, I remember unlocking this skin-Kallie: I like how in 20 years, you're 70.Tamoor: You're mad old.Lucy: To be fair, I am a 60 year old in the body of a 28-year-old.Tamoor: That Open Boosters guy, I think he pulled the Black Lotus a second time.Lucy: No, he did not?!!?!Tamoor: I think so, yeah.Lucy: What a guy.Info from Gamespot.com
