Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 5 is coming next holiday season and started to share more details on hardware including the new haptic controller. Of course, games make all the difference, and we know of at least one developer currently on a PS5 project.Bluepoint Games, a studio known for handling acclaimed remasters like Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, is at work on a game. Marco Thrush, president of Bluepoint, dropped a comment about its current projects to Wired."We're working on a big one right now," said Thrush. "I'll let you figure out the rest."The comment could indicate another port, optimized for the PS5 hardware, or Bluepoint may have been tapped to help with the workload for another studio's game. Alternatively, Bluepoint could be making its own original game, having spent years developing on PlayStation hardware. We know that the PS5 will use an SSD for quicker load times, and supports ray tracing. The controller is said to have haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that allow developers to program the level of resistance when you use them. All of that hardware power and new bells and whistles are starting to go out to developers with official dev kits, so it remains to be seen how it will be used. While it was first discussed earlier this year, Sony has now officially announced the PlayStation 5, along with new details on the PS5 hardware, controller, and UI. The biggest remaining questions concern its price and exactly when you can get your hands on one. Sony has remained unfortunately vague on both fronts, but we do now have an idea of when its release date will fall: late next year. The announcement from SIE CEO Jim Ryan said it will be "launching in time for holiday 2020." That assures it will come out sometime before the gift-giving season, and the phrasing suggests it will be sometime close to the holidays. New PlayStation hardware has usually launched in the fall, so the PS5 will likely hit late next year. PlayStation 5 News "Big" PS5 Game Coming From Dev Behind Uncharted, Shadow Of The Colossus Remasters PS5 Officially Announced, Release Window Set For 2020 PlayStation 5 Gets New Controller Details, But Don't Call It DualShock 5 (Yet) That will give Sony plenty of time to continue outlining the new hardware. Ryan says "there's much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead," which again suggests a release in late 2020. It's unknown at this point if Sony will hold dedicated reveal events or appear at E3 2020, after deciding to forgo a presence this year.As for how much it will cost, Sony said earlier this year that the PS5's price will be "appealing." It's been no more specific than that, nor do we know if there will be multiple price options at launch. What we do know is that the new (unnamed) controller will feature haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and Bluepoint Games is already at work on something "big" for the system. A new user interface will also give you more information without needing to jump directly into a game.Info from Gamespot.com

Sony continues to gradually reveal new tidbits about its next-generation console, now officially called the PlayStation 5. In an interview with Wired, the company opened up about the system's release window and new features, which include improvements to game installation and user interface.According to system architect Mark Cerny, PS5 will boast a "revamped" UI that will make it much easier to, say, see what multiplayer matches you can jump into or what single-player missions are available without having to load a game. As Cerny explains:"Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don't want the player to have to boot the game, see what's up, boot the game, see what's up. Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like." PlayStation 5 News "Big" PS5 Game Coming From Dev Behind Uncharted, Shadow Of The Colossus Remasters PS5 Officially Announced, Release Window Set For 2020 PlayStation 5 Gets New Controller Details, But Don't Call It DualShock 5 (Yet) As Sony had previously confirmed, the PS5 will also be ditching a standard hard drive in favor of a solid-state drive (much like Microsoft's next-gen Project Scarlett), which will dramatically reduce load times. That isn't the only way Sony will be improving the user experience, however. While game installs will still be mandatory on PS5, Sony says players will have more control over which aspects of a game they wish to install."Rather than treating games like a big block of data, we're allowing finer-grained access to the data," Cerny says. An example Wired mentions is only installing a game's multiplayer component, or installing the entire game and then deleting the single-player portion from your system once you've completed it.PlayStation 5 is slated to launch Holiday 2020. There is still much we don't know about the console, but Sony recently confirmed that the PS5 controller will have haptic feedback, and porting specialist Bluepoint is working on a PS5 title. Sony has been keeping a tight lid on its next-generation console, now officially called the PlayStation 5, but the company has revealed some interesting new details about the upcoming system in an interview with Wired. Among other things, Sony confirmed that PS5 will require players to install games onto the system, much like PS4. This time around, however, you'll have greater freedom over choosing which parts of the games to install."Rather than treating games like a big block of data, we're allowing finer-grained access to the data," system architect Mark Cerny says in the interview. An example Wired brings up is only installing a game's multiplayer component, or being able to delete a game's single-player portion from your system once you've completed it. It's unclear if developers will be required to support this feature. This ties into other changes Sony is making to improve the user experience on PlayStation 5. As the company previously confirmed, the system will use a solid-state drive rather than a standard hard driver, allowing for significantly faster load times than were possible on the PS4. Sony is also improving the system's UI to let you see what's happening in games without booting them up. PlayStation 5 News "Big" PS5 Game Coming From Dev Behind Uncharted, Shadow Of The Colossus Remasters PS5 Officially Announced, Release Window Set For 2020 PlayStation 5 Gets New Controller Details, But Don't Call It DualShock 5 (Yet) "Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don't want the player to have to boot the game, see what's up, boot the game, see what's up," Cerny said. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like."Other topics Sony touched on include PS5's new controller, which will feature haptic feedback for a more "immersive" game experience. The company also confirmed that Bluepoint, the studio behind high-profile ports such as PS4's Shadow of the Colossus remaster, is working on a "big" PS5 game, although no other details were shared beyond that.PlayStation 5 will release Holiday 2020--the same window as Microsoft's next-gen Project Scarlett console. Sony has officially confirmed the PlayStation 5 is coming next year, in time for the holiday season. But alongside the big announcement came some more nitty-gritty details about the PS5 hardware features, including a clarification of an important point for its visual chops. In its initial debut, hardware architect Mark Cerny confirmed the PS5 will support ray-tracing, a feature that allows for complex light and sound effects to be rendered in a 3D space. But his ambiguous phrasing left some speculating that it was a software-level imitation. With this announcement, Cerny has taken the opportunity to put that fear to bed."There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware," Cerny told Wired, "which I believe is the statement that people were looking for." PlayStation 5 News "Big" PS5 Game Coming From Dev Behind Uncharted, Shadow Of The Colossus Remasters PS5 Officially Announced, Release Window Set For 2020 PlayStation 5 Gets New Controller Details, But Don't Call It DualShock 5 (Yet) At least one developer spoke on the record as well, expanding on the kinds of special effects that the PS5 GPU allows, and how the power of the new GPU in general helps enable new opportunities for developers."I could be really specific and talk about experimenting with ambient occlusion techniques, or the examination of ray-traced shadows," said EA chief studio officer Laura Miele, chief studio officer for EA. "More generally, we're seeing the GPU be able to power machine learning for all sorts of really interesting advancements in the gameplay and other tools."Another developer who may be taking advantage of ray-tracing features is Bluepoint Games, the studio behind remasters like Shadow of the Colossus. That studio says it's at work on something "big" for PS5. The announcement also gave more details on the PS5 controller, which will feature haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.Info from Gamespot.com

It's been nearly a decade since the way WWE operates fundamentally changed. In early 2010, the first episode of WWE NXT aired, putting the spotlight on wrestlers who were new to WWE programming, pairing them with established talent for what was essentially a reality TV competition series. While several names that appeared on five seasons of that show went on to make their mark in WWE--from Daniel Bryan to "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt--this was just the start of what NXT would eventually go on to accomplish, as it revolutionized the future of the company.Behind it all was Paul Levesque, the multi-time WWE champion and founding member of D-Generation X, who goes by the moniker Triple H. As Levesque's full-time wrestling career began winding down, he was struck by the notion that he didn't know who the next Triple H would be. The late '00s were an interesting time for WWE. While John Cena was a household name at that point, there was no telling who the next Cena was or where he or she would come from. What's more, it wasn't just household names WWE was lacking, but an entire roster that could carry the company into the future."It was a little shorter than 10 years ago, somewhere in that ballpark of time, is when I sat with [WWE CEO] Vince [McMahon] the first time, and we had the discussion around like, 'It's amazing all the things that the company is doing, but where is the talent going to come from?" Levesque told GameSpot during a visit to WWE's Performance Center, where future WWE Superstars are trained. "How are we not only going to get talent to continue doing what they're doing, but better talent and bigger talent? And as we grow, how do we grow that pool of talent?'"Image credit: WWEHe continued, "When you look at [other sports], they have a feeder system of amateur athletics or college athletics. We don't have that. We had the independents, which were drying up. And even then, you're just kind of at the whim of whoever is teaching people, whatever they're teaching them. And sometimes that's great. And sometimes it's terrible. A lot of talent were just out there trying to figure it out themselves, and that's not ideal."From those discussions emerged what NXT has become; a viable third brand of WWE programming, along with Raw and Smackdown, that showcases talent newer to the company. After shedding the reality competition format, it became unlike any other show WWE produces, and one that's attracted quite a fanbase. It has a larger focus on actual wrestling, letting in-ring competition be the selling point, rather than some of the more over-the-top features of typical WWE programming. And as the show moves from a one-hour taped weekly slot on WWE's own network to two hours of live programming on USA every single week, its current product--and the fans that flock to it--are something everyone involved in NXT is determined not to lose."I think that the thing that makes us special is one of those things that we as wrestlers, and we-- as our family--have to protect," NXT star Candice LeRae explained. "And I believe that even from the very top, Triple H wants to protect the wrestling part of it. He's like our father, and then the rest of us are like his little children."That's not something picked up along the way, though. According to LeRae, it's ingrained in every member of the NXT roster from the very start. "Even some of the people that are still just learning at the Performance Center, it's instilled in them," she said. "Our culture here is so different. And I think all of that in this family environment is going to be what keeps us what we should be. And that's the true NXT brand."Image credit: WWEIt's hard to argue with the results. While nearly a decade ago, Levesque was worried about the future of WWE--with the talent pool drying up--but in 2019 the best and brightest from NXT are carrying the company's other brands."When you look at Raw and Smackdown now, 80% of those people came through [NXT]. And it's hard to remember that as you look at it, when you say what Seth Rollins was the first NXT champion," he said. "Braun Strowman, when he walked in the Performance Center, had never stepped between the ropes before. Alexa Bliss and never stepped between the ropes before. Charlotte Flair, even though she comes from that family, had never done it before she came here. Bray Wyatt, that character, was created here."With over 100 talent currently signed to NXT in various stages of development, from established Champions like Adam Cole and Shayna Bazzler to recent signees like Briana Brandy and Austin White, the future of WWE is in good hands. And for NXT, as is reaches a broader audience due to its new show, the future is now.NXT airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET on USA.Info from Gamespot.com

Marvel has plenty in the works for movies and TV series. The upcoming Phase 4 block will feature Spider-Man returning to the MCU, Disney+ original content, and more. However, Hulu also has a small slate of original programming headed your way as well, including Helstrom, a darker tale from Marvel Comics. While there's no release date set yet, the main cast for the upcoming program has been revealed in a press release. Homeland's Elizabeth Marvel will play Victoria Helstrom, a woman who has spent 20 years in an institution, plagued by both real and imagined demons. She'll join Tom Austen (The Royals) and Sydney Lemmon (Fear of the Walking Dead) who will be playing Daimon and Ana Helstrom, respectively. The two are the alleged children of a serial killer, and they spend their days going after some of the worst villains the show will have to offer.By day, Daimon is a professor of ethics, but at night, he's an exorcist fighting a dark and hidden world, trying to get rid of demons. Ana joins him in his quest, running an auction house. The trio is joined by Robert Wisdom (Ballers) as Caretaker, June Carryl (Mindhunter) as Dr. Louise Hastings, Ariana Guerra (Five Feet Apart) as Gabriella Rosetti, and Alain Uy (The Passage) as Chris Yen. All of these characters have dealings within the occult, one way or another. The first season of Helstrom will be 10 episodes, and Paul Zbyszewski (Agents of SHIELD) will serve as showrunner with Marvel TV's head Jeph Loeb serving as executive producer."Marvel Television is thrilled to have such an amazing cast that enriches Paul's fantastic writing," said Loeb. "The ensemble is the perfect way to bring our audience into our Adventure into Fear franchise causing delicious nightmares of what's to come!"Helstrom has strong ties to Ghost Rider--a series recently axed by Hulu due to a "creative impasse." The character Daimon Hellstrom, also known as Son of Satan, first made his appearance in 1973's Ghost Rider #1. He and his sister Satana are the children of Satan and were both trained in magic. Daimon leaned towards the human side of his heritage, becoming a professor and investigating the occult, while his sister embraced her dark side. The character has evolved over the years, but he very much has remained a part of the mystic side of the Marvel comic book universe.Helstrom joins a slate of other Hulu Marvel TV series, including the M.O.D.O.K. animated series, a Howard the Duck show written by Clerks' Kevin Smith, a bizarre animated assassin show called Hit Monkey, and more.Info from Gamespot.com

Activision Blizzard banned a professional Hearthstone player from competitive events and rescinded his winnings after he voiced support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. The decision has led to sharp criticism from some in the community, including calls for a boycott.CBS News reports that Ng Wai Chung aka "Blitzchung" was conducting a post-match interview when he shouted, "Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times." Blizzard found this was in violation of its Hearthstone Grandmasters competition rules, and indicated the offending rule:"Engaging in any act that, in Blizzard’s sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in a removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the player’s prize total to $0 USD," the rule reads.Chung has subsequently been banned from Hearthstone esports for one year, and he'll need to forfeit $10,000 in prize money from the tournament. Activision Blizzard is partly owned by the Chinese company Tencent. The company also noted that the two hosts were fired. Chung has been a competitive Hearthstone player for years, having placed in tournaments starting in 2017 according to Liquidpedia.Blizzard is now facing backlash from fans for the decision. The Hearthstone subreddit is currently populated with several heavily upvoted threads from fans saying they've quit the game, often referencing how many years they've played or how much money they've spent. Some have criticized Blizzard for the incident in light of its value statements on plaques outside the main office, which say "Think Globally" and "Every Voice Matters."Not everyone at Blizzard agrees with what happened. Both the "Think Globally" and "Every Voice Matters" values have been covered up by incensed employees this morning. pic.twitter.com/I7nAYUes6Q — Kevin Hovdestad (@lackofrealism) October 8, 2019GameSpot has contacted Blizzard for further statement, but it has not responded as of the time of writing.Info from Gamespot.com

The huge success of this year's John Wick: Chapter 3--Parabellum proved that there is plenty of life left in the action franchise. The fourth movie is due in 2021, and there's also the TV spin-off The Continental on the way too. It's now been confirmed that a spin-off movie titled Ballerina is also happening.According to Deadline, Ballerina will focus on a young female assassin who is out for revenge after her family is massacred. A character credited as Ballerina appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3, played by real-life ballerina Unity Phelan. However, it is unknown if this is the same character, and no cast has been announced for the movie at this time. The Ballerina script, which is penned Shay Hatten, was not initially written as a John Wick movie. As The Hollywood Reporter revealed in 2017, it was part of a bidding war between studios; when Lionsgate won, they made plans to turn it into a Wick spin-off. Hatten was also hired to co-write John Wick: Chapter 3 with Wick creator Derek Kolstad.Ballerina will be directed by Len Wiseman. He is best known for the first two Underworld films, as well as this year's short-lived DC show Swamp Thing. He also helmed Live Free or Die Hard and the Total Recall remake.John Wick Chapter 4 releases on May 21, 2021. The video game John Wick Hex was also released today, October 8. Much like the PlayStation 4's 7.00 update, which is out now, Xbox One's October update is available to download and it brings many "fan feedback-driven features" like new family settings, wishlist notifications, and more.In a blog post that breaks down all the new features, the Xbox One October update targets a few specific areas: family, streaming, and notifications.Family settings have received some improvements to give parents "more control over what their children see and interact with." These changes include limiting the amount of time individuals spend across Windows 10 and Xbox devices. But they can be further specified by limiting the amount of time per app or game across your devices, meaning an hour of Fortnite is an hour of Fortnite--and that's it.Microsoft also outlined how the new wishlist feature has been enhanced. Now instead of adding a game to your wishlist and forgetting about it, the Microsoft Store will send you a notification when that game goes on sale. Other notification improvements center around Xbox Game Pass, where you can now recommend games to a friend or a whole community. We've learned what the new Xbox Game Pass titles are for this month and they include excellent first-person action (Dishonored 2), a huge open-world sandbox (The Outer Worlds), and more.On the streaming side, Mixer has gotten some improvements as well, as it is getting built directly into the Xbox One's dashboard. You will no longer need to navigate to a separate app or the Mixer tab in order to watch streams instantly. That's not all this new update has to offer. Check below for a shortlist of other improvements included in the Xbox One October update.Xbox One October 2019 UpdateRecent Players Improvements: Engaging with your Recent Players has been streamlined to make the experience easier, faster, and more reliable.Under-The-Hood Game Update Improvements: Games should start faster and automatic game updates have been improved to significantly reduce the "update required" message.Events App: A new app for notifications on when events are happening in communities and games.More Flexible Capture Settings: The "allow game captures" setting has newer options to give you more control.Capture & Share Experiment: A test feature rolling out to "a limited portion of the Xbox One audience" that will improve the usability of capturing and sharing content.Info from Gamespot.com

We're in the final stretch of Fortnite Season 10. This season of Epic's popular battle royale shooter is scheduled to end this weekend with a big event, but before then, the developer has one last set of Overtime challenges for players to complete. This batch is called Out of Time, and most of its challenges are fairly straightforward, so you shouldn't have too much trouble completing them. However, interspersed among the challenges are a couple of tasks to track down recordings by The Visitor--the time-traveling antagonist from Season 4 who returned to the game and is building another rocket, which will undoubtedly figure into this weekend's big in-game event. The first such challenge asks you to collect the Visitor recording on the Floating Island and in Retail Row. If you're not sure where those recordings are hidden, don't worry; we explain where to go and what to do to complete this challenge below.Where Are The Visitor Recording Locations? As the challenge states, there are two recordings to find: one on the floating island, the other tucked away somewhere in Retail Row. The areas themselves are easy to find, but since each one is fairly sizable, you'll likely have trouble tracking down the recordings within each unless you already know where to go.The floating island is, of course, floating around the map, so its location will change depending on when you jump into the game, but the recording will always be in the same spot: in the back of a yellow truck. The vehicle is parked by the building near the motel's swimming pool. The second recording, meanwhile, is inside the bookstore on the eastern end of Retail Row, near the water tower. Head up the stairs inside the store and you'll see the recording--signified as a cassette tape--in the middle of the floor. How To Complete The ChallengeOnce you know where to look, all you need to do is head to the aforementioned spots and pick up the recordings as you would any other item in the game. Collect both and you'll receive 2,500 Season 10 XP for your troubles. You'll also be able to listen to the actual recordings, which cryptically mention the Seven--an enigmatic group first alluded to in The Visitor and The Scientist's skin descriptions.Season 10 of Fortnite ends this Sunday, October 13, so you have until then to complete any remaining challenges from this season.
