The latest update for Sea of Thieves, Fort of the Damned, is now live. The expansion is in line with the theme of the Halloween season, dropping a bunch of spooky-looking content for you and your crew to tackle. As its name implies, Fort of the Damned is primarily an expansion on Sea of Thieves Skeleton Fort feature (basically the game's version of raids) by offering a new fort to take on. You'll have to meet certain in-game requirements to access the new fort--undertake Voyages to acquire Ritual Skulls and then claim the Flames of Fate--but once you do, you can tackle its challenge as many times as you please.Fort of the Damned is here!👻 New world event: Fort of the Damned 👻🙌 Duo Sloops in The Arena🎵 Banjo!💈 Two-Tone & Vivid Hair Dyes🏅 New Achievements💀 New Pirate Emporium Stock💰 Black Market Refresh🏴 And more!Super spooky details: https://t.co/cJ87QxSILF pic.twitter.com/JBgHH4xE09 — Sea of Thieves (@SeaOfThieves) October 16, 2019The new fort is guarded by a new type of enemy, Shadow Skeletons, and its many challenges are designed to encourage organizing your efforts with others. If you're planning on taking on the fort, it might be wise to recruit a crew you can trust to work together. If you claim victory, you'll be rewarded with valuable loot. Completing the fort will net you brand-new cosmetics as well, which allow you to dress up in the tattered garments of the underworld's Ferryman (which can be seen in the video embedded in the tweet above).Speaking of cosmetics, Fort of the Damned offers plenty of other pieces of content other than a new fort. The update introduces additional shirts, skirts, dresses, and undergarments that pirates of any gender can wear. Dyes have been added as well, allowing you to change the color of both your clothing and hair. Special two-tone dyes will be added to the Legendary shop too. And if you're the resident musician in your crew, rejoice! This update also adds new Xbox Achievements to earn. All of the aforementioned details are permanent updates to Sea of Thieves, but Fort of the Damned introduces some limited-time Halloween-themed goodies too. The second season of Mayans MC has included plenty of nods to Sons of Anarchy, as well as several appearances by SAMCRO member Happy (David Labrava). However, the trailer for the show's next episode, titled "Kukulkan," includes the most significant reference to the original series yet.In the first look at the installment, SAMCRO comes to town for a visit, led by club president Chibs (Tommy Flanagan). "What's a Scotsman got to do to get a drink around here?" he asks, flanked by Happy, Quinn (Rusty Coones), and Montez (Jacob Vargas). While Quinn previously appeared in Season 1 of Mayans, this is the first time fans have seen Chibs or Montez since the Sons of Anarchy series finale.SAMCRO's arrival comes at a troubling time on Mayans. EZ (JD Pardo) and Angel (Clayton Cardenas) have been working covertly with Happy to figure out why their mother was assassinated. Meanwhile, the Mayans are in the middle of a bad situation with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon) and the Galindo cartel--two entities that SAMCRO knows all too well. It's unclear exactly what's bringing them to town in this episode, but based on the trailer, it's seemingly going to end in bullets. Given the longstanding relationship between the two clubs, though, don't expect them to be trading bullets with each other.Mayans MC airs Tuesdays on FX.Info from Gamespot.com

Fortnite isn't the only battle royale game kicking off a new season this month. The PC version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is set to enter Season 5 with its 5.1 update, which is now live on the game's test server, and it makes a range of big changes.Among other tweaks, Season 5 will revamp Miramar. Developer PUBG Corp. is adding a racetrack to the map, as well as ramps, jumps, loops, and signboards. A Gold Mirado has also been added. Just one of these will spawn per match, and the only place you can find it is at the garage in Hacienda del Patron. PUBG Corp. says "some small objects and trash in and around buildings" have also been removed to make it easier to move around while looting.Miramar is getting another new feature: vending machines. Like those in Fortnite, these will spawn in set areas around the map--namely arenas, gas stations, motels, the casino, and commercial buildings--but their exact locations will vary by match, and they'll dispense healing items like Painkillers and Energy Drinks. With a new season comes a new Survivor Pass, Badlands. This one features a new assortment of rewards to unlock as you play PUBG and complete missions. Even if you don't pick the Survivor Pass up, however, all players can contribute toward an overarching Community mission that'll unlock special skins and reveal more story details about Miramar.Other notable changes in Season 5 of PUBG include a few new mechanics. Most notably, you can now throw items to your teammates. If an ally is requesting a healing item or ammo, you'll see a prompt that allows you to chuck the requested items to them. You can also throw all melee weapons at opponents. Melee weapons also now stack in your inventory, allowing you to carry more than one at a time. You can read the full patch notes for the 5.1 update on PUBG's website. As previously mentioned, the update is currently live on the PUBG test server and will roll out to the live game on October 23 (PC) and October 29 (consoles).Info from Gamespot.com

A group of university students who protested in solidarity with a banned Hearthstone player--and then voluntarily quit when they weren't disciplined for it--have been formally punished by Blizzard.Blizzard initially harshly punished professional Hearthstone player Blitzchung for speaking out during a post-match interview in support of Hong Kong protesters. This sparked a firestorm of backlash, including a group of American University students holding up a sign during a collegiate tournament. The sign read, "Free Hong Kong, Boycott Blizz." When the group was not punished for its actions, it dropped out of future tournaments. Now the group has been banned for six months, a punishment that matches the revised one given to Blitzchung. In an email posted to Twitter, Blizzard stressed that the official broadcast should stay focused on the game. Casey Chambers, one of the players on the AU team, said that he's pleased the team received equal punishment.Happy to announce the AU Hearthstone team received a six month ban from competition. While delayed I appreciate all players being treated equally and no one being above the rules. pic.twitter.com/mZStoF0e0t — Casey Chambers (@Xcelsior_hs) October 16, 2019Blizzard's original ruling against Blitzchung was much harsher. He was banned for a full year and Blizzard rescinded the $10,000 in winnings he had earned during the tournament. In a revised ruling, the company said it acted too hastily, returned his winnings, and reduced the penalty to six months. That means Blitzchung can still compete in Grandmasters tournaments this year if he chooses to, but he says he isn't sure whether he'll return to Hearthstone competitive play. The initial decision faced sharp criticism from a wide variety of sources, including sitting US Senators, Hearthstone casters, and former champion Firebat. A group is planning to protest at BlizzCon, which begins on November 1.Info from Gamespot.com

It may be trendy right now to act like the zombie genre is on its way out, but that's not how the creators of Zombieland see it. They view zombie movies and TV shows not as a passing fad, but as their own category that will be around "forever," according to Zombieland Double Tap co-writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who also wrote the original."Zombies will never be played out," Wernick told GameSpot recently. "It's a genre like westerns, like superhero movies. They'll be making zombie movies and zombie entertainment forever, just like I think they'll be making superhero movies forever.""It's the ebb and flow," agreed Reese. "You have a couple of things come out that fail or whatever, and then all of a sudden it's cold, and then something heats up again, and now it's hot. It's silly. I mean, ultimately, we're going to have zombie movies forever."The original Zombieland, a unique blend of the zombie and comedy genres, came out a full decade ago, in 2009--a time when the landscape of zombie entertainment looked a lot different. At the time, doing a lighter take on the undead felt fresh (paradoxically, given the subject matter)--but there have been countless imitators and contemporaries, from iZombie to Anna and the Apocalypse, since then."I think more than anything, we just fell back on our characters and our comedy and thought, 'Well if zombies are stale for whatever reason, if that's played out, we're OK, because really, this is a movie about people,'" Reese said.Zombieland 2 is certainly more of a comedy than a zombie film. Like the original, the sequel sidesteps many of the tropes of apocalyptic survival fiction--the characters are seldom in any real danger, and implausibly, they're never short on resources like food and fuel. The question isn't where their next meal will come from, but whether they'll be able to sate Tallahassee's Twinkies craving. But there are small nods here and there throughout the sequel to the fact that these characters are living in a post-society world. For example, Columbus mentions in his voiceover that it's getting harder and harder to find working vehicles--a line the writers added in order to explain why Tallahassee spends the whole movie in search of a badass car. In that way, Zombieland is usually only realistic when realism serves the comedy in some way, the writers explained."We wanted to do that to make it feel realistic, but to us, it's more about story. So we had the idea, what if Tallahassee is sort of cursed with crappy cars, when he wants a good car? But then we had to back up, because our producer was like, 'Well, he could have any car he wants,'" Reese said. "So we had to explain that...It was sort of the combination of, we want to do something funny, but now we have to make sure we ground it and make it feel real."At another point, a character casually mentions that there's still electricity because the nation's power-generating dams are still running off natural rainfall. That may seem like a stretch, but Zombieland 1 and 2 director Ruben Fleischer told GameSpot that it's actually fairly realistic. He said they used references like Alan Weisman's book The World Without Us and the History Channel series Life After People to determine the state of Zombieland's world at this point. However, Fleischer admitted that they didn't spend much time referencing other zombie fiction from the intervening decade between Zombieland 1 and 2. In fact, the director is "not a big consumer of zombie stuff" in general, as he put it."I just wanted to harness the spirit of the original as much as possible," Fleischer said. "I think that the tone and the style of the first film is so distinctive that there's no threat of overlapping on other things, unless they're deriving from us. So I just really tried to stay focused on maintaining and carrying forward the spirit of the original film."The exception is the movie's final big action scene, which was inspired by World War Z--so expect a giant pack of zombies flowing over the landscape like a wave of rotting destruction. Zombieland's writers did feel some pressure to change up the formula, they admitted--which is why Double Tap's zombies have evolved into different varieties, like the easily distracted Homers and the tougher-than-normal T-800s."There was definitely pressure on us to evolve the zombies in some way, to make it so that it wasn't just the exact same zombies we'd seen 10 years ago and the exact same zombies we've been seeing for the previous 10 years on Walking Dead and other shows," Reese explained. The writer described one variety of zombie that didn't make it into the final film: the Weeble. "You know how those old toys, the Weeble, they wobble but they don't fall down--they always pop back up. So it's, he's back up again, it's a Weeble!"The Weeble may have fallen over and been cut from the movie in the end, but there's plenty left in Zombieland Double Tap to recommend it to fans of the series and of the zombie genre in general. Just don't say zombie movies are going out of style.Zombieland Double Tap hits theaters Friday, October 18. In the meantime, we revisited the original Zombieland recently--check out the 30 Easter eggs, references, and fun facts you might have missed in the original.Info from Gamespot.com

It's been 10 years since Zombieland first hit the big screen, and the cast from the undead action-comedy is all returning to the apocalyptic wasteland for another round of zombie-slaying. But is this new flick any good?In the Zombieland sequel, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are back and traversing the undead hellscape: smashing flesh-eating heads, meeting new friends, and just trying to survive. The film was directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and written by Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984), Rhett Reese (Zombieland, Deadpool), and Paul Wernick (Zombieland, Deadpool). The reviews for Zombieland: Double Tap are in, and the movie hits theaters on Friday, October 18, and the general consensus is that the movie is funny, but not as entertaining as the first movie. Here's what the critics thought.GameSpot -- 6/10Director Ruben Fleischer and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick got the comedy right, but this time around, they failed to craft a convincing world around it.[Full review]Entertainment Weekly -- BDirector Ruben Fleischer (Venom) is herding them all toward some kind of ultimate man-vs.-zombie showdown, but the action sequences often feel like the least necessary thing about the movie. For all the flying intestines and skulls that split open like past-due melons, Double Tap has another squishy organ at its center: a big, goofball heart.[Full review]IGN -- 8/10Zombieland: Double Tap is a riot, and a lot of that is due to Zoey Deutch and her character, Madison. While it doesn’t quite achieve classic status in its own right, when it comes to sequels that do the original film justice, it is up there. It’s worth the wait, your time, and your money.[Full review]Empire -- 3/5It’s often enjoyable, occasionally very funny, and has an energy and verve sorely lacking from Fleischer’s last few films. So, while it’s simply, plainly, not as good as the first movie, Zombieland is no longer the odd one out on Fleischer’s CV.[Full review]IndieWire -- C+After 10 years of anticipation, it would have been nice to see a zombie movie with more on its mind than the same goofy undead routine.[Full review]Info from Gamespot.com

The new Lion King movie was a "huge disappointment" to Elton John, the rockstar legend who wrote music for the original movie and the new one. Speaking to British GQ, John said he was particularly let down by the music, while he said he also feels that he wasn't welcomed or "treated with the same level of respect" as he was on the first movie."The new version of The Lion King was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up," he said. "Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn't have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost."John co-wrote the song "Never Too Late" for the new Lion King. His credits on the original animated movie were far more extensive and memorable. With writing partner Tim Rice, John wrote numerous songs for The Lion King, including "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," the latter of which earned him an Oscar win for Best Song.Going back to the GQ interview, John said the soundtrack for the new Lion King "hasn't had nearly the same impact" on sales charts as the 1994 original did. He pointed out that the original movie's music album was on the top of the charts for a long time, and in total it sold 15 million copies. The music business world is in a very different place now in 2019, with physical sales plummeting and digital services like Spotify on the rise.Still, it can be said that the music from the new Lion King is not lighting the world on fire like the original did. "The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success [of the movie]," John said of the new album. He added that he wished Disney consulted him more for the new Lion King. "But the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn't really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect," he said. "That makes me extremely sad. I'm so happy that the right spirit for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical."While John may be disappointed by the new Lion King, the movie was a tremendous success commercially. It has earned more than $1.65 billion worldwide, making it the most successful animated movie in history and among the highest-grossing movies overall of all time. The new Lion King currently stands as the No. 7 highest-grossing movie in the history of cinema, only behind Jurassic World ($1.67 billion), Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.068 billion), Titanic ($2.18 billion), Avatar ($2.78 billion), and Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion).Despite its beloved inspiration, The Lion King 2019 got only middling reviews on GameSpot sister site Metacritic, and in GameSpot's Lion King review. In particular, many critics suggested the remake was too faithful to its source material, while its more realistic animated style sacrificed some of the original's expressive tone."Maybe it's smart of Disney and director Jon Favreau to leave well enough alone and simply try to recreate the original's magic with contemporary technology and actors," Michael Rougeau wrote. "Incredibly gorgeous visuals, a star-studded new cast, a punched-up comedic script, and a new Beyoncé song will no doubt be enough to get plenty of fans--of all ages--into the theater to see this movie. But in the end, Disney is just repeating history, and that makes the new Lion King simply good, not great."Info from Gamespot.com

While casting news for Matt Reeves’ The Batman project has been arriving at a steady clip--Zoe Kravitz was just confirmed as Selina Kyle--the movie will be looking elsewhere for whoever Jonah Hill was in negotiations to play, Variety has reported.News of Hill's potential involvement came several weeks ago amidst a slew of announcements, including Westworld's Jeffrey Wright entering talks to join the ensemble as Commissioner Jim Gordon. Though the role Hill was set to play was largely unconfirmed, many speculated he would be a likely candidate for Eddie "The Riddler" Nygma or Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot, two of Batman's most famous and most notorious villains. Both would have fit well into Reeves’ planned "detective-focused" story, with Riddler specifically geared toward challenging Batman's deductive skills with, you know, riddles.Unfortunately, with Hill officially passing on the project for reasons unknown, it seems Reeves will have to continue the search for rogues. Of course, this doesn't mean Nygma and Cobblepot are out of the running entirely, but other likely candidates have yet to enter the fray. The Batman will hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, the new action role-playing game set in the World of Darkness universe, won't make it out on time. Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Hardsuit Labs have confirmed that the title won't launch during its previously announced Q1 2020 release window (January 1, 2020 - March 31, 2020). Instead, it is now coming sometime later in 2020, but no specific date or release window was mentioned. In a statement, Paradox and Hardsuit said it became clear over the "last few months" that the Q1 2020 window was unrealistic. "Hitting the original launch time frame of Q1 2020 would risk shipping a game that does not meet the ambitions that the developer and publisher share," the companies said. "This decision has been made to ensure that Paradox and Harsuit deliver the best Bloodlines 2 experience possible."Hardsuit's Brian Mitsoda and Andy Kipling shared more insight on the delay in a post on the game's website. Having already been in the development for 3.5 years, the studio wanted to take the time to make sure the sequel did not repeat the mistakes of the 2004 first game."There's the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early," Mitsoda said. "Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake. We won't do that. In the end, everyone working on this game wants to offer you the best Bloodlines 2 we can."Mitsoda said the decision to delay Bloodlines 2 wasn't an easy choice or the first choice of Hardsuit. In 2019, the studio grew its development teams and improved its production processes, but this wasn't enough to "deliver the quality we want at the date we promised."More details on the status of Bloodlines 2 will be announced at Paradox's upcoming fan convention PDXCON this weekend in Berlin, Germany. Bloodlines 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Info from Gamespot.com

Bungie has announced that the latest Iron Banner in Destiny 2 will change tomorrow. You can expect a more traditional assortment of maps to play in the Crucible once the update goes into effect."Iron Banner's first two days have been an intentional showcase of the newest Crucible maps in Destiny 2," Bungie wrote in a tweet. "Starting on Thursday, the rest of the week will feature a varying mix of both new and classic maps."This Iron Banner is the first to occur in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, making it the first of the game's eighth season, Season of the Undying, too. Those familiar with Destiny 2 can expect this latest Iron Banner to follow the core conceit of the previous events: level advantages have been temporarily enabled in the Crucible. That means you should be equipping your highest Power level gear when jumping into a match. But not everything is the same in Iron Banner this time around. In order to earn the limited-time rewards tied to the event, this time you'll need to complete a new seasonal pursuit first. Called Scour the Rust, the quest is acquired from Lord Saladin at the Tower. Until you complete Scour the Rust, you will not be able to turn in the tokens you earn for playing in the Crucible, preventing you from earning Iron Banner's rewards.Though Scour the Rust will remain in-game for the rest of the season--likely as the required entry point for any future Iron Banner events during Season of the Undying--this instance of Iron Banner only lasts until Tuesday, October 22 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. So if you want the rewards tied to this Iron Banner, you should complete Scour the Rust sooner rather than later.
