Pokemon Go's Halloween 2019 event is now underway, and it's introduced a new Mythical Pokemon to the game: Darkrai. The nightmare-inducing Dark-type has started to appear in five-star Raid Battles, making this your first chance to catch it in Pokemon Go.Darkrai will only be available in Raids until November 1, when Pokemon Go's Halloween event ends, so you'll want to make the most of this time if you're hoping to add a few to your collection. To help you out, we've rounded up some tips on how to battle and catch Darkrai below. How To Encounter DarkraiLike many other Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, Darkrai can be found as a tier-five Raid Boss, so to encounter one in the game, you'll need to head to a Gym where a Darkrai Raid is taking place. The Mythical Pokemon will periodically appear at Gyms, but your best bet for finding one will be during the Legendary Raid Hour events. For one hour every Wednesday evening, more five-star Raids featuring Pokemon Go's current Legendary will take place, effectively guaranteeing you'll find a Raid. There will be two Darkrai Raid Hours before the Mythical Pokemon slinks back into the shadows. The first takes place on October 23, with the second following on October 30. Both events will run from 6-7 PM local time.To participate in a Raid Battle, you'll need to have a Raid Pass. You can either purchase these from Pokemon Go's in-game store or receive one for free when you spin the Photo Disc at a PokeStop; however, you can only hold one free Raid Pass at a time. Pokemon Go News Pokemon Go Halloween 2019 Event Coming Soon, Adds Costumed Starters, New Shiny Pokemon, And Darkrai Pokemon Go: Darkrai Now Available In Raids For A Limited Time Pokemon Go Bringing Back Regi Trio For A Limited Time Next Month Pokemon Go's November 2019 Community Day Announced, Features Chimchar Best Darkrai CountersBefore you can have a chance to catch Darkrai, you'll first need to defeat it in battle, and it'll prove to be a tough opponent. Darkrai is a pure Dark-type, which means it is susceptible to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy, so you'll want to have Pokemon of these types on your team when you challenge it.For Fighting-types, Machamp will likely be your best bet, particularly if it knows Counter and Dynamic Punch. Heracross and Scizor are both good Bug-types to use, the latter especially if it knows X-Scissor. Fairy-types are harder to find because they're among the rarest Pokemon in the game, but Gardevoir with Dazzling Gleam is a good choice. However, two types you'll want to avoid using are Ghost and Psychic. Darkrai resists both elements, so those monsters won't fare very well against it. Note that Gardevoir is also part Psychic, but it takes neutral damage from Darkrai thanks to the fact it is also part Fairy, and if it knows the aforementioned Dazzling Gleam, it can hit the Mythical Pokemon super-effectively. Follow these tips and you should have no problem taking Darkrai down.Info from Gamespot.com

A number of big additions and changes have been detailed for patch 5.1 in Final Fantasy XIV via the latest Letter from the Producer Live. This includes the Nier Automata alliance raid, the Grand Cosmos dungeon, and a bunch of class/job tweaks. These will all be implemented on October 29. While you can get our breakdown of a number of those new features in the upcoming 5.1 update, we'll explain one in particular here: New Game+ for FFXIV.It has been talked about for a while, and New Game+ will get its first iteration in the next patch. You'll be able to replay story quests from all three expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers. Don't worry about overwriting or resetting the work you've done; you'll maintain your character's overall story and job progress. Rather, it's the system for which you can experience the story again. It can work as another way to level up other classes/jobs, but you will not receive the quest's item rewards.A look at the New Game+ screen. Both Heavensward and Stormblood quests will be divided into four parts--we're not entirely clear which exact quest or story beat each part starts. However, we know that Parts 1 and 2 cover the main expansion story while Parts 3 and 4 cover the post-release quests. Shadowbringers, on the other hand, is divided into two parts, which makes sense since it's the latest expansion with post-release quests rolling out at the moment. You won't be able to freely jump between quests as each chapter must be played from their beginning, and you'll have one auto-save slot for your New Game+ journey. It's an ambitious system for the MMORPG and there's still more for New Game+ in the future. It is not yet incorporating anything from the base game, A Realm Reborn, though that is in the works. Considering that the team is currently tweaking A Realm Reborn to condense its questline, cut out some filler, and make it a better experience for new players, we may have to wait for the revamp before it gets incorporated to the New Game+ system.Info from Gamespot.com

The dichotomy of beauty and violence has always been a driving theme in The Witcher series. The Northern Realms' gorgeous vistas are dotted with war-torn battlefields, kindness--no matter how fleeting it may be--is often juxtaposed with savagery, and even the warmest characters have a cold and calculated side to them. That neverending tug-of-war is ever-present in The Witcher 3, even when its stripped-down visuals may obscure some of that beauty.Everything is here in the Nintendo Switch version--The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, its two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and all of its DLC. The main game alone offers dozens of superb quests filled with interesting characters, fantastic twists, and rewarding combat encounters. As Kevin VanOrd said in GameSpot's original review, "Excellence abounds at every turn in this open-world role-playing game." The same is mostly true for the Nintendo Switch version. As you'd expect, the visuals have been pared down significantly. The textures are muddied, the draw-distances are reined in, and the resolution has taken a hit. These issues are exacerbated during docked play. While it technically runs at a higher frame rate and resolution docked, these visual issues are all the more noticeable when projected onto a larger screen. The standard Nintendo Switch's 6.2-inch screen does a great job of hiding the blemishes. Even though it's running at a lower resolution, the smaller screen gives it a much crisper look, so the poor textures and pop-in are less apparent. If you do plan on playing it in handheld mode, you can, thankfully, adjust the size of the HUD to make things easier to read.C'mon, this is what you're really here forFor returning players, the visual downgrade may require some getting used to. However, focusing solely on The Witcher 3's visuals does this port a disservice. Four years later, the game is still massive in scope, and seeing the battle-scarred swamps of Velen, jagged peaks of Skellige, and sprawling countryside of Toussaint on a technically inferior platform is still a sight to behold.More importantly, the grittier look of the Switch port doesn't affect The Witcher 3's core gameplay. The combat and exploration may be smoother on a PC, Xbox One X, or PS4 Pro, but I found performance to be consistent throughout a wide variety of combat encounters and locales. After nearly 30 hours, I haven't experienced any significant frame rate dips. Even the swamps in Velen--an area notorious for causing frame rate issues on PS4 and Xbox One--are comparable to the rest of the experience on Switch. According to developer CD Projekt Red, the frame rate should range between 24 and 30 frames per second. In populated areas like Novigrad, the frame rate dipped to the lower end of that range. Given the slower pace of The Witcher 3, I never found these dips to be an issue, even in the heat of combat. The Witcher 3's visual prowess may have been a selling point for some in 2015, but the Nintendo Switch version is a reminder that there is far more to this adventure than a pretty picture. Even today, there are few games that can rival the storytelling and worldbuilding on display here. Nothing is as simple as it seems, and every thread you pull on reveals enticing new details about this world and its characters. The Nintendo Switch version is a reminder that there is far more to this adventure than a pretty pictureThe vast web of decisions and consequences is just as impressive as it was in 2015. While it may not be apparent on your first playthrough, your actions--both big and small--can have serious repercussions, even if you were trying to do the right thing. What's more impressive is how well fleshed-out each of these paths are and how they ebb and flow through main quests and side quests. While many outcomes are bittersweet by design, none feel underdeveloped.Where The Witcher 3 continues to shine is in its many deeply human stories. While the political aspects of the main story give context to the world and the characters that inhabit it, it's the interactions Geralt has with its denizens that gives weight to the experience. There are no good guys or bad guys. There are just people fighting to find hope in an oppressive world. Many of the quests provoke questions like: Would you hurt others for those you love? Can even the most vile of men be forgiven? How far can fear drive someone? The superb storytelling continues in the game's two expansions. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. While not necessary to the main narrative, these two expansions are thoughtful addendums to Geralt's story. Blood and Wine in particular is a heartfelt send-off for the storied series. If you're jumping back into the game and just want to experience these, you can skip to them right when you load it up for the first time.Although the Nintendo Switch might not be the best platform to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it's still a fantastic experience that shouldn't be missed. If you are looking to replay The Witcher 3 and bask in its detail and beauty, the Switch port may not quite scratch that itch. However, what makes this game excellent isn't its graphics, but the powerful stories it tells, and those are as vivid as ever on Switch. Info from Gamespot.com

Fallout 76's Wastelanders update, which was to add human NPCs with dialogue and quest-lines more like a single-player Fallout game, has been delayed. In an post on its website, Bethesda explained that the update is turning out to be rather ambitious, and as a result it's being pushed to Q1 (January-March) 2020."We're excited about how Wastelanders is coming together but it's going to need more time to be the best, most polished update it can be," the announcement states. "Wastelanders is turning out to be one of the largest expansions we've ever done, and it changes the entire world with human NPCs returning."The announcement goes on to lay out a roadmap for future plans. Those include reworking the Atomic Shop and Challenge and reward systems, while maintaining a careful approach so that players can't buy a competitive advantage. Bethesda says it is also working on quality-of-life improvements for 2019, along with more new events, the perk loadouts, Legendary Player system, and public test server.Coming much sooner than all of those will be the addition of private servers. The company says this is the top-requested feature, and it's coming next week. The ability to mod your private worlds will be added in a future update.Fallout 76 had a rocky launch and was met with largely negative reviews, including GameSpot's review which awarded it a 4/10. One chief criticism was that the lack of NPCs made the world feel sparse and inconsequential, which the Wastelanders update aims to fix. In the meantime, Bethesda has been releasing updates fairly regularly, adding features like a battle royale mode and raids.Info from Gamespot.com

Gearbox has scheduled another hotfix for Borderlands 3, and the patch is going live today by 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 PM BST. The hotfix is primarily aimed at balancing certain legendary weapons, but it also implements a few bug fixes as well."After looking through the data, we found that some pieces of Legendary gear were greatly outperforming others and felt they were limiting builds instead of increasing them," Gearbox writes in the full patch notes. "In addition, some of the damage output of Legendary gear limited the growth in combat engagements for the future so we tuned everything to an acceptable median."The patch notes list massive buffs and nerfs for several legendary weapons across all gun manufacturers and several grenades. The most notable changes are to Flakker and Butcher--both shotguns are currently some of the best guns you can find in the game, dealing out tremendous amounts of damage with very few penalties.Hidden among the many bug fixes implemented in this latest patch is a change that many Borderlands 3 players are likely going to enjoy seeing: a modification to shield boosters so that they now auto-pickup. Some shields, when damaged, cause boosters to drop that either buff or debuff your shield in unique ways. Since launch, you've had to individually loot these boosters off the ground--which is incredibly difficult to do in the midst of a hectic firefight. And once the fight is done, you have little need for the boosters. So automatically picking up the boosters is a very welcome change. We've listed the remaining weapon changes and bug fixes below.Borderlands 3 October 17 Hotfix Patch NotesWeapon HotfixesMaliwanWestergun damage increased by 25%ASMD damage increased by 28%Cutsman damage reduced by 25%TedioreTen Gallon damage increased by 8%VladofSickle reload speed increased by 25%Faisor damage increased by 15%Infiniti damage increased by 40%Magnificent damage increased by 25%Jericho damage increased by 40%Lucian's Call accuracy and handling reducedLyuda Critical Damage Bonus decreased by 30% and made a modification to address a reported bug that an extra bullet was spawned in the centerTorgueTry-Bolt damage increased by 25%Alchemist damage increased by 25%Devils Foursum damage increased by 13%Flakker now consumes the full magazine when fired and damage is reduced by 33%Laser-Sploder rocket projectiles spawn interval increased by 0.4 secondsJakobsMaggie damage increased by 35%Hellwalker damage reduced by 8%HyperionConference Call damage increased by 15%Crossroad accuracy reduced and it now fires 3 projectiles instead of 4Butcher accuracy reduced and damage reduced by 25%DAHLVanquisher damage increased by 20%Children of the VaultSkeksis damage increased by 15%Linoge damage increased by 20%Pain is Power damage increased by 25%AtlasRuby's Wrath damage increased by 10%GrenadesHunter-Seeker damage increased by 25%Hex grenade damage reduced by 70% and duration reduced to 3 secondsFirestorm damage reduced by 70%ArtifactsElemental Projector damage max roll reduced to 90%Vault Hunter AdjustmentsIron Bear: health increased by 50%All pets' health increased by 50%Digi-Clone: health increased by 100%Addressed a bug with Salvation where grenades were giving life-stealBug FixesPsychos will now use their True Vault Hunter Mode name in True Vault Hunter ModeRemoved the optional Rare Spawn missions from Galaxy ProgressAddressed a reported bug where Completely Sane Sid didn’t always become hostile when using FL4KAddressed a reported bug where Ratch would not properly spawn during “Ratch’d Up”, which potentially blocked completion of that side missionIncluded a modification so Lilith would continue to move toward the door in Shiv’s confession chamber during “From the Ground Up”Lowered the chance for a weapon to drop from the Pachinko machineIncluded a modification so that Zane’s Digi-Clone will no longer spawn into the cage in Cistern of SlaughterShield Boosters were modified and are now set for autopickupAn addition was introduced so Eridium chests are no longer listed as Red Chests in the ECHOcast extension on Sanctuary IIIInfo from Gamespot.com

That includes details about a day-one patch across console retail copies, and when exactly the game will unlock in each territory.According to a post on Obsidian's forums, a day-one update will be a whopping 38 GB on Xbox One, and 18 GB on PS4. That only goes for the retail disc editions, though, since digital purchases will have the patch included in the pre-load of the game. The post also details the rolling global release times, and PC players get a slight head start on exploring the galaxy. You can check the schedule from Obsidian below. The studio recently had to clarify that The Outer Worlds will run at 4K on both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, following reports that it would only be enhanced for the Xbox platform. The news surrounding the upcoming movie The Batman just keeps getting more exciting. On the heels of announcing that Zoe Kravitz will play Catwoman in the film from director Matt Reeves, the actor who will portray Riddler has now been revealed.Escape at Dannemora star Paul Dano will play the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This bit of casting comes the day after reports circulated that Jonah Hill had dropped out of negotiations to play a character in the film. It was believed that Hill was up for the role of Riddler or Penguin.Dano becomes just the fourth person to play a live-action Riddler. The character was portrayed by Frank Gorshin in the 1960s Batman TV series and its accompanying movie. Jim Carrey took on the role in 1995's Batman Forever, which saw him teaming with Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones.) Most recently, Cory Michael Smith played Edward Nygma on the TV show Gotham, exploring the character's descent into madness and transformation into Riddler. In addition to Dano and Kravitz, two other major names have already signed on for The Batman. Twilight alum Robert Pattinson will play the titular Caped Crusader, while Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is reported to have been selected to play Commissioner James Gordon. The Batman is in theaters on June 25, 2021.Info from Gamespot.com

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order previews were published online earlier today, with several outlets offering their thoughts on Respawn Entertainment's first foray into the third-person action-adventure genre. Of the two planets available to visit during a preview event, Respawn has opened the landing zone for one of Star Wars' iconic planets in the galaxy far, far away--Dathomir.Dathomir is a very important locale in Star Wars lore. Not only is the crimson planet seen in The Clone Wars, but it is also the home base of the Nightbrothers, the Nightsisters, and prequel Trilogy villain, Darth Maul. The Nightbrothers were a tribal group of Zabrakian males who served as a military arm for the Nightsisters. In contrast, the Nightsisters were magick-sensitive women who harnessed much of Dathomir's power. Maul has feet in both camps: born a Nightbrother and birthed by the Nightsister clan's Mother, Nightsister Talzin. He gets chopped in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but survives by focusing his hatred on Kenobi and makes a cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story. With confirmation that characters like Rogue One's Saw Gerrera will make an appearance, there's a very real possibility Darth Maul could battle Jedi Fallen Order protagonist Cal Kestis at some point.A lot of bad happened on Dathomir during The Clone Wars, though, including the almost total annihilation of the Nightsisters executed by Count Dooku. With Jedi Fallen Order taking place not long after Order 66--an executive order by Emperor Palpatine that saw most of the Jedi killed--Respawn has remained tight-lipped about what Dathomir is like. However, the planet is available to visit for those looking for a tougher challenge."Within the cinematic, it's very clear that Dathomir is a dangerous planet, and you've got to be careful if you're going to choose that," game director Stig Asmussen said in an interview. "The player is given a warning if they go there, but at the same time though, I don't want to discourage people from going there because some people might. It's almost like it's a difficulty level that's built-in without actually having a menu in front of you."GameSpot editor Alessandro Fillari attempted Dathomir during his three hours with Jedi Fallen Order. He didn't see much success. "[Dathomir's] an incredibly unnerving world to explore, and the roaming Rancors that come in various sizes didn't make it any it any easier," Fillari said. "After a few attempts exploring the space, I decided to pack it in."We're a little less than a month from Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order's November 15 release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There's plenty of Jedi Fallen Order coverage to comb through till then, including the lack of fast travel, the PC requirements necessary to run it, and much more. So be sure to check back for all the latest news on Respawn's upcoming character-action title.Info from Gamespot.com

News about Matt Reeves' new Batman film has been pouring in from all sides as pre-production continues on. First, we had a slew of casting rumors, including Jeffery Wright's potential position as Commissioner Gordon. Then we received confirmation that Zoe Kravitz would be joining the cast as Selina Kyle. Yesterday, tragedy struck when it was announced Jonah Hill would not be taking part in the project--but don't worry, he was quickly replaced by Paul Dano who we learned will actually be signing on as Eddie Nygma mere moments ago. Today, we finally heard from Batman himself--and he's got some choice words to share with fans. And those words are that he believes Batman is, and we quote, "dope." "It's a dope character," he explained succinctly in an interview with the New York Times. Pattinson also shared what originally drew him to the project, in addition to loving Matt Reeves as a director. "His morality is a little bit off," he said. "He’s not the golden boy, unlike almost every other comic-book character. There is a simplicity to his worldview, but where it sits is strange, which allows you to have more scope with the character."And as for the fan reaction? Pattinson couldn't be less bothered. As a veteran of the mega-popular tween-and-teen franchise Twilight, he's been around the block a few times when it comes to very passionate fanbases. "Maybe I’m just used to abuse by now. At least I didn’t get death threats this time--that’s a plus! It’s funny that people are so very angry about Twilight. I never particularly understood it."But that doesn't mean promoting and talking about the project is any easier, despite his experience in the world of fandom-heavy properties. "I just fear that when I say anything about Batman people online are like, ‘What does this mean?’ And I don’t know!" Pattinson laughed, "I used to be very good at censoring myself, but I’ve said so many ridiculous things over the years, so I’m always curious when I’m promoting these movies how many times I can mess up. It feels like with every movie that comes out, there’s always one quote from me where it’s like, ‘How? What kind of out-of-body experience produced that screaming nonsense?'"The Batman hits theaters on June 25, 2021. Info from Gamespot.com

Much like the Metroid Prime games it takes inspiration from, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order doesn't have a fast-travel system. If you're looking to leave the planet you're currently on, you'll need to retrace your steps back to your ship."A lot of the game is traversal, re-traversal, and exploration," Fallen Order producer Blair Brown said, according to USG. "Not having fast travel encourages the player to go off the beaten path; find quick routes, and master the level. Also as you play through you'll see some stuff that you wouldn't if you fast traveled through the critical path every time."To assist in navigating each world, there are certain landmarks on every planet in Fallen Order that you can use to help orient yourself. A careful eye will most likely notice the dragon-like Bynog making its roost on a faraway bridge when first visiting Bogano, for example. And as you continue to explore the new Star Wars planet, your efforts will bring you closer and closer to him. "He's a really good landmark," Fallen Order combat designer Jason De Heras said. "He's there to spark interest."Though Fallen Order won't have a traditional fast-travel system, it remains to be seen whether the game adopts a quick-travel system similar to what's seen in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In Metroid Prime 3, you could not fast-travel back to Samus' ship. You had to make your way back to it every time you wanted to go off-world. However, on each planet, you could venture off the beaten path and occasionally discover landing platforms for Samus' ship to dock at. This way, you could change where you would have to backtrack to once you were done exploring. There's no confirmation that Fallen Order will do the same, but given that Respawn has repeatedly said the Metroid Prime trilogy is an influence in the Star Wars game's development, it's at least a possibility.During a recent preview event, we got three hours of hands-on time with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order--giving us a better idea as to what to expect for protagonist Cal Kestis' journey as a Jedi Padawan, Fallen Order's "thoughtful combat" and challenging but fair encounters, and metroidvania influences. Overall, the game isn't groundbreaking, but it still manages to be exciting. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 15.Info from Gamespot.com

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases next week, and the team at Activision laid out how it will handle post-release content. The company had already announced it would be removing season pass and DLC maps to ensure a more unified player base, but it wasn't clear how the game would handle monetization. It has answered that lingering question now with the announcement of a Battle Pass system.According to the announcement, the Battle Passes will be timed to live seasons, with both a Free Stream and Premium Stream of content to earn. The Free Stream will let you unlock anything with an impact on gameplay, like base weapons and attachments. The Premium Stream will earn you cosmetics items. You'll also be able to earn COD Points with the Battle Pass. However, the Battle Pass won't be ready to go on day one. It will launch sometime later in 2019. Activision says this is because right now the company is focused on the game launch, and also because players will have plenty to play through and earn from the base game to start anyway."Understandably there are still questions around how the economy will evolve throughout the post-launch, live seasons," the announcement says. "We recognize this will take time to fully demonstrate. Please know we are committed to delivering a fair system guided by the principles we've outlined here, and will continue to monitor feedback and player engagement to help us achieve that goal."Recently, Infinity Ward's Joel Emslie ruled out loot boxes for Modern Warfare, and this sheds more light on the approach the studio is using instead. The company also recently clarified that its PC download size, listed in specs at 175 GB, is the number including a series of post-launch content.Modern Warfare releases on October 25. With Jojo Rabbit, Taika Waititi--following in the footsteps of Mel Brooks and Charlie Chaplin--has made a funny and poignant satire about Nazis in 2019. It's a coming-of-age comedy starring a young boy in Nazi Germany that is hilarious, emotional, and topical, thanks to Waititi's unique sensibilities.Jojo Rabbit stars Roman Griffin Davis as the titular Jojo, who is obsessed with everything Nazi-related--and also has an imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler himself, played by Waititi. Jojo is an enthusiastic Nazi youth, but he gets his worldview turned upside down once he discovers a Jewish girl named Elsa who his mother Rosie (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding in their attic.GameSpot was able to talk to writer-director Taika Waititi (director of Thor: Ragnarok) and co-star Stephen Merchant (who plays Gestapo agent Captain Deertz) with a select group of journalists after the film's US premiere at Fantastic Fest in September, to discuss the making of the movie, tackling the thorny subject matter, and turning Hitler into a subversive comedy icon. The opening credits of Jojo Rabbit play over a montage of vast German crowds going absolutely insane for Hitler, all while a German-language cover of the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" plays over their fanatical cheers. Treating Hitler like the Beatles seems like an odd choice, but for Waititi, it made sense."For me it was that Hitler was like a pop star for Jojo," the filmmaker explained. "Where I had posters of bands in my bedroom when I was growing up, I feel like in those days Hitler was that for some people. It is very easy to see how people can become enamored and brainwashed by these personalities."This is an important aspect of what makes Jojo Rabbit such a special and important movie today. Jojo isn't portrayed as a monster, but as a dumb little boy who wanted to be accepted by a group and chose the worst club to join. When he meets Elsa, she quickly dismisses him not as a violent monster, but as a kid who got involved with the wrong crowd. "I don't think that Jojo is an idiot," Waititi explained. "When children were indoctrinated into the Hitler Youth and were taught all these ideas, a lot of them were very bright kids, but that doesn't mean that they were not easily influenced." For Merchant, this feels relevant to today's politics. "I think what's interesting is the film's humanizing of people with Nazi beliefs," Merchant told us. "Because there's this tendency to demonize them as this other thing, and I think the danger with that is that it suggests that it couldn't happen again. Not to us, because we're right-minded people. What Jojo plays into is the way people can easily be seduced by the dark side."Though the first trailer focused on the comedy aspect of the movie, the "Nazi summer camp" that was prominently shown only lasts about 15 minutes, after which Jojo Rabbit becomes a poignant and at times quite emotional coming-of-age tale. For Stephen Merchant this use of comedy as a hook was what drew him into the movie."Taika uses humor as a way of kind of seducing and relaxing an audience," Merchant told us.Indeed, though the first act of the movie gets plenty of laughs at the expense of the ideology that has turned the kids at the summer camp into mindless drones, Jojo Rabbit quickly becomes more dramatic as it introduces the reality of the war and what it was done to people. The movie then starts getting darker and darker as it shows things like children being used as soldiers, and public hangings for those who were considered different.Despite dealing with heavy and serious subjects, Jojo Rabbit doesn't go fully into the horrors of the war. We see people dying, but it is always off-screen. We glimpse the people who've been publicly executed, but only their dangling feet. For Waititi, this was very much intentional."I wanted to keep it like Rugrats," the director explained, as everyone in the room chuckled. "I wanted the movie to feel like it came from a kid's point of view and how they interpret these things. When I was a child seeing violence in my life, my memories are not accurate. I think they've been put through a child's filter where they feel more cinematic or cartoonish. So I wanted to keep some sort of innocence around this stuff and not be gratuitous. I don't want to see people get shot in my films, really. I don't need it to be graphic."Jojo Rabbit hits theaters Friday, October 18. Info from Gamespot.com
