For an agent of the death, Felix is an oddly loveable goofball. He doesn’t wear a pitch-black cloak or brandish an ominous scythe, but his job is pretty much what you think it is. He inserts himself into everyday life, manipulating events from the shadows to execute a well-orchestrated plan of death. It’s grim work, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have fun while doing it. Felix cannot contain his love of music, treating each level as a dance floor as he shuffles, twirls and wobbles through them. Felix is charming, but that energy doesn’t translate over to the puzzles you have to solve. As an employee of the Ministry of Death, your job as Felix is to set up the deaths of mortals on earth. These are multi-staged tasks, taking place over numerous levels contained in themed chapters that span various time periods. The first, taking place in a long-forgotten ice age, has you setting up the comedic death of a nomadic hunter by dropping a moose head on him and attracting the attention of his companion nearby, who doesn't hesitate to use a spear on his mistaken prey. Each death in Felix the Reaper hits an entertaining punchline, letting you witness all of your previous efforts unfold in a satisfying way. Just like the board game Mouse Trap, it's fun to see each individual piece of each puzzle link up, but it’s an absolute chore getting to that point.Felix can only move around in shadows, so you primarily reposition objects to cast their shadows along paths you plan to take. You can shift the direction of the sun by 90 degrees at a time, too, bathing new areas in dangerous sunlight and opening up new paths for you to safely walk through. Most puzzles work this way, with you moving a specific object from one side of the level to the other and using an assortment of other objects to construct your path. It rarely deviates from this. Felix the Reaper shows its entire hand within the first handful of levels and never evolves further. The formula grows tedious rather quickly. Getting to the end of a level isn’t rewarding but a relief as you look back at all the steps you had to take to get there. Felix the Reaper makes it clear that all of its puzzles can be solved in just a handful of moves (which you’ll need to do on subsequent replays if you want to unlock some bonus stages), but it dangles this fact in front of you like a cheeky taunt when you’ve spent the better half of an hour undoing mistakes move by move before you finally find the right combination of steps to succeed. The culprit here is the inflexibility of the puzzles, which require extremely specific movements to solve. Sometimes this boils down to shifting an object one block at a time to carry a shadow with you as you go, which is bogged down by the same animations to pick up and place items. When you make a mistake it’s not immediately clear that you have, and when you eventually succumb to asking for a hint you’ll likely have to backtrack through your last few moves to reset your position and work towards the solution. Even with hints of where to place an item, there's no help in getting you there. And since there are specific steps you have to take, it can take a frustrating number of attempts to just set down one piece of a larger puzzle.Control issues don’t make this any easier. Playing on a Nintendo Switch, I struggled to get comfortable with the camera controls, which would sometimes result in me losing my tiny mouse-like cursor from view entirely. There’s a button to re-center the cursor in the middle of the screen, thankfully, but it occurred far too frequently for me to ever feel confident in making quick moves, another requirement if you want to complete levels fast enough. It’s a pity that actually solving Felix the Reaper’s puzzles is so unrewarding when it has so much character lovingly imbued into its presentation. Felix is never idle in a stage, always breaking out a dance move to the pulsating beats reverberating through his headphones. His ultimate goal is to eventually bump into the love of his life while out doing his job--she's a lingerie-clad agent of the Ministry of Life seeking to undo the very actions Felix is undertaking. It’s a strange but comical narrative layer that doesn’t serve much else beyond giving you a reason to hop from one chapter to the next, but it’s a setup that's so absurd that you can’t help but find it somewhat endearing.Visually, Felix the Reaper is unique, too. The humans you eventually lead to their deaths are made up of strange shapes and sizes, with ghoulish scribbles for faces that emote in uncomfortable ways. It's not beautiful, per se, but it does establish a look and feel for the game that really makes it stand out. Felix’s marshmallow-like form complements his energetic dance moves well, animating with a kinetic motion that doesn’t wear over time. He reminds me a lot of Baymax from Big Hero 6 in this regard--he's fun to just watch in motion, and I desperately wanted to give him a hug when he was sad.But there’s no amount of visual charm or dark humor in its violent deaths that make the effort of sticking with Felix the Reaper worth it. It’s a thoroughly enticing setting and premise that is misguided by puzzle mechanics that aren’t that aren't fun to play around with, and then fail to meaningfully build on their foundations in any way after that. Felix the Reaper might be able to drown out his surroundings with music, but that doesn't make his job any less mundane to perform.Info from Gamespot.com

Final Fantasy XIV isn't slowing down one bit even after the recent release of the celebrated expansion Shadowbringers. The first major update since then, patch 5.1, delivers a wave of new content which was detailed in the update's trailer and the latest "Letter from the Producer Live" stream. Game director Naoki Yoshida showed off many new features, including a quick look at the much-anticipated Nier Automata raid, the new dungeon tied to the next story quests, and more. It was announced that patch 5.1 will be live on October 29.First thing's first, we finally got a look at The Copied Factory, the first phase of the Nier Automata crossover raid. It appears that you'll be fighting alongside a black-haired 2B-like model who wields similar weapons and abilities as 2B herself. Her name? 2P. She even pilots a YoRHa Flight Unit at some point in the raid. You'll be going through areas reminiscent of the source material, too; rusty, abandoned structures and overgrown buildings seem to nail the aesthetic. It's a real treat for FFXIV and Nier fans, especially considering Nier series creator Yoko Taro is directly involved in developing the raid series and composer Keiichi Okabe did the music (see the trailer above). The Copied Factory is only part one of the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse 24-player alliance raid series that takes us through the world of Nier Automata and possibly includes lore implications. Note that these are high-level activities that require you to finish Shadowbringers and have top-tier gear. You can expect subsequent parts in future patches (likely 5.3 and 5.5, based on previous expansions' cadence). The other huge part of patch 5.1 is the continuation of FFXIV main story--in the trailer above, you see many other major characters like the Crystal Exarch, Krile, Alphinaud, Zenos, Gaius, and Estinien still involved. Gameplay-wise, however, you explore The Grand Cosmos, the next four-player dungeon; it appears to be a luxurious palace built by elves that has since been abandoned due to the Flood. The dungeon will be compatible with the Trust system so you can take story characters into the instance to fill the necessary roles to complete it.We'll be breaking down the finer details of patch 5.1 soon, as there are changes to jobs/classes, and New Game+ rolling out. In the meantime, you can read our previous coverage of FFXIV; we did a deep dive into the Trust system, and recently had the chance to speak with main story writer Natsuko Ishikawa and art lead Takeo Suzuki about how they created the Shadowbringers story. We also talked with Naoki Yoshida to look back at the work the team did to make Shadowbringers possible.Info from Gamespot.com

It's another weekend in Destiny 2. The Iron Banner is pitting Guardians against each other, which makes it a great time to stock up on useful Exotics to take into the Crucible. Xur has arrived in the solar system to help you fill out your collection, although most of what he offers is on the older side. Here's what Xur is offering this week to help you climb up the Crucible ranks, and where you'll need to go to find him.Where Is Xur?Head to Nessus to find Xur this week. He's hanging out on Calus's opulent barge in the Watcher's Grave region. From the local transmat zone, hop on your sparrow and head north, then climb aboard the ship and look for Xur on the left side. What Is Xur Selling?Despite the fact that Xur can sell Exotics from the full second year of Destiny 2, most of what he's got this week is older stuff, and therefore a little less interesting. Leading the pack is Telesto, an Exotic fusion rifle that's great for taking to Iron Banner if you don't already have one. Hunters get the only Exotic that might be considered "new" with Shards of Galanor, a piece of armor from the Forsaken expansion. Destiny 2 Recent News Where Is Xur Today? Xur's Fated Engram, which gives you one Exotic you don't already have per week, now includes all the random Year Two Exotic drops from the Annual Pass, which means Exotic armor from last season, the Season of Opulence, is now available from the expensive engram. If you're a PC or Xbox One player taking advantage of cross-save, you can now potentially get Wavesplitter from the Fated Engram as well.Xur also carries the Five of Swords challenge card that lets you add modifiers to standard Nightfall Strikes, and if you're looking to work through Annual Pass content from Year Two, you can also get an Invitation of the Nine bounty from him.Xur Item Lineup (October 18-22)Telesto (Exotic Scout Rifle) -- 29 Legendary ShardsDunemarchers (Exotic Titan Leg Armor) -- 23 Legendary ShardsTransversive Steps (Exotic Warlock Leg Armor) -- 23 Legendary ShardsShards of Galanor (Exotic Hunter Gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary ShardsTelestoIf you need a reliable weapon for the Crucible, Telesto is a great one to have. It's very useful in Iron Banner this week, particularly for dealing with the fusion rifle step of the Scour the Rust quest.DunemarchersTitans can grab Dunemarchers this week, another useful Exotic for venturing into the Crucible. Following the release of the most recent hotfix update, Bungie has revealed the first details about Destiny 2's next update. Patch 2.6.1 is expected to launch on October 29, which is shaping up to be a big day for the game between the launch of the Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost, the new dungeon, the new Momentum Control PvP mode, and the Xenophage Exotic quest. But in terms of the update launching on that day, Bungie has outlined some of the balance changes we can expect, and it's not good news if you're a fan of a particular Titan or Warlock Super ability. The Super changes impact Titan's Striker (the Code of the Juggernaut path) and Warlock's Dawnblade (the Attunement of Flame path). In both cases, moves are being made to reduce the amount of Super energy you can regain by killing enemies with the Super, thereby extending its duration.Destiny 2's Shadowkeep and Season of the Undying calendar"For a while now, Trample and Everlasting Flames have been an outlier, especially in PvP," Bungie explained. "We’ve previously done a pass to add diminishing returns to this but it’s proven to not be enough. In this update, we’ve tightened the curve a bit and split it out over PvE and PvP. This should allow Guardians to keep dunking on combatants for longer while being less oppressive against one another."Striker also gets a further nerf, increasing the cost of the Super's light attack, which players use to get around more quickly, and the regeneration effect is no longer available for Super kills."We still want this to be used as a way to run people down or dodge and be shifty, but this change should make it costly enough as to be prohibitive as a form of long-distance travel," Bungie said. "Finally, regeneration will no longer proc on melee kills while in Super. The combination was just too strong and overly forgiving of strategic or positional mistakes." Destiny 2 Recent News Where Is Xur Today? Destiny 2 Exotic Location, Weapon, Armor (October 18-22) Destiny 2 Iron Banner: Scour The Rust Quest Steps For New Armor Destiny 2 Divinity Exotic Guide: How To Get New Shadowkeep Raid Trace Rifle Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Raid Guide: How To Beat The Garden Of Salvation Destiny 2 Shadowkeep: How To Power Above 900 And Get Raid Ready Additionally, the Armor of Light timer provided by Titans' Ward of Dawn now lines up with the life of the Ward, and a bug that allowed 1-2 Punch's damage buff to apply to shoulder charges has been removed.Phantasmal Cores, a new item in Shadowkeep, will no longer be capped to three in your inventory; with the update, you'll be able to stack up to 999 of them. Forsaken's Supers will finally display the correct icon in the HUD during PvP matches, and there have been some improvements to the inventory while in space flight. Specifically, a bug has been addressed that caused gear previews to take longer than they should, which should let you see gears and preview ornaments or shaders more quickly while in space flight.Beyond what's outlined in the preliminary patch notes, Bungie said it's "aware of feedback about other abilities and gear" that it hasn't outlined in this particular blog post. It called out One Eyed Mask in particular, saying to "expect a change in a future update," though it didn't share anything further.Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1 Early Patch NotesStriker - Code of the Juggernaut (Bottom Path)Trample:Tuned the amount of Super energy returned per kill Reduced amount returned possible per kill from 15% to 13% (before diminishing returns)Reduced the low end of the diminishing returns from 5% to 3.25%Changed the kills for the diminishing returns by splitting them out between players and combatants Previously it was 15 kills. Now it is 21 combatant kills or 7 player kills (players count for 3X towards diminishing returns)QUALITY OF LIFE AND BUG FIXES:Sentinel - Code of the Protector (Top Path)Ward of Dawn:Armor of Light timer now correlates with the life of the Ward of DawnParticle FX move more rapidly towards the end of the Ward of Dawn's lifeNightstalker - Way of the Wraith (Middle Path)Shattering Strike: Fixed a bug in which Shattering Strike activation window was reduced to 3 seconds along with Truesight Shattering strike last the proper 9 seconds once againShoulder Charge We’ve removed a bug that allowed players to shoot immediately before activating shoulder charge, which allowed players to apply the 1-2 Punch damage buff to shoulder charge. This bug was caused by a quality of life change made for Tempest Strike. Before Shadowkeep, if player's had the sprint button configured as "hold to sprint", then they would need to be holding the sprint button while sliding in order to activate Tempest Strike. With the release of Shadowkeep, we added a small window of time where players could activate Tempest Strike after letting go of the sprint button. This change had unexpected effects on other melee abilities, so we have reverted this change until we can find a better fix for Tempest Strike.OTHER:Forsaken subclasses will display the correct super icon in the PvP HUD for the following Subclasses: ThundercrashBurning MaulBlade BarrageSpectral BladesNova WarpWell of RadianceChaos ReachFixed a bug where Warlocks who wagered Weak Motes in Reckoning were incorrectly being rewarded Titan gearFixed a bug that increased loading times for gear preview while in space flight.Players should notice their character models update more quickly while changing gear, previewing ornaments, or previewing shaders during space flightPhantasmal Core stack cap raised from 3 to 999SteamBlocking Communication with Players in Steam will now block/mute Players in Destiny 2Added Functionality for /addfriend and /removefriend commands /addfriend [ PlayerName ]/removefriend [ PlayerName ]Note - Players must be in one of your Rosters (Fireteam, Friends, or Clan) in order to Add/Remove them as a FriendAdded Functionality for /invite command /invite [ PlayerName ] Note - Players must be in one of your Rosters (Fireteam, Friends, or Clan) in order to Invite them by PlayerName/invite [ SteamID ] Note - You can Invite Players by SteamID, regardless of if they're in your Roster or notPlayers can now /invite and /join another Player regardless of their Steam Online Status ('Online', 'Invisible' or 'Offline')/help description updated to reflect new changes to commandsInfo from Gamespot.com

The Outer Worlds is due out in just under a week, and it marks Obsidian's return to a big open-world RPG. One signature element of the studio's work from the Fallout series is being able to define your own playstyle and personality, and that's on full display in the launch trailer above. The trailer poses the question: who do you think you are? Hero, villain, colonist, brawler, and assassin are just a few of the options that get attention, though the spinning wheel scrolls past other roles like priest, psychopath, liar, swindler, and cook too, among many others. Plus there's plenty of gun-play and explosions showcased, just in case you were concerned. The Outer Worlds News and Guides The Outer Worlds Launch Trailer Explores The Nature Of Self-Actualization; Also, Explosions The Outer Worlds Will Be Enhanced On Xbox One X And PS4 Pro The Outer Worlds Has Huge Day One Patch; Unlock Times Confirmed Obsidian recently announced the game will be enhanced on both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, in response to reports that it would only be 4K on the Xbox. The disc versions will have a huge day-one patch, while the downloadable versions will integrate the patch into the pre-download. If you're a member of Xbox Game Pass, you'll get the game included with your subscription on launch day.As for the studio itself, it's been bought by Microsoft and seems happier for it. Just in time for the spooky season, For Honor's Halloween-themed event has finally begun. Fangs of the Otherworld runs until November 1 and features a bevy of themed loot, a new game mode, and more.Ubisoft outlined some of what is available in a blog post. First up is a new game mode. Spooky Slashers, a variation of Dominion, will allow you to gain special boosts by capturing map zones. While Ubisoft didn't specify what these boosts are, all of them will be lost upon death. The publisher also shared an appropriately frightful trailer, showcasing some of the many cosmetics available to unlock during the limited-time event. The trailer, below, sees ghouls fighting werewolves to an operatic score.Halloween-themed loot, like outfits and weapons, will unlock through random drops at the end of each map until Fangs of the Otherworld ends. You can also purchase stuff from the in-game shop such as effects, executions, and more. Should you miss anything for your favorite heroes, you can unlock all event-themed loot by purchasing the corresponding Fangs of the Otherworld item bundle until November 4.Earlier this year, For Honor introduced a new character that seemed reminiscent of a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice boss. Sakura--part of For Honor's second season of Year 3, which began May 2--is the female version of Hitokiri and can be purchased for 5,000 Steel.Info from Gamespot.com

Humble Bundle is changing its subscription service later this year to give subscribers the power to choose their own games each month. Appropriately rebranded Humble Choice, the subscription service will have four subscriber tiers: Lite, Basic, Premium, and Classic. If you're at all interested in getting a batch of PC games each month for a low cost, you should definitely consider subscribing soon. When Humble Choice launches, all current subscribers will be switched to the Classic plan, which is by far the best value. Current Humble Trove games include Torchlight II, Wilmot's Warehouse, SOMA, and many more.Subscribe to Humble MonthlyHere's the important part: Only current Humble Monthly subscribers will be converted to Humble Classic. It will not be available to new subscribers after Humble Choice launches. Humble hasn't revealed a start date for the change, but as we're nearing the end of the year, you don't have that much time. When we say the Classic plan is the best offer, we're not kidding. The Premium plan costs $20/month ($180/year) and only gets you nine games each month and the same perks as the Classic plan. The Basic plan costs $15/month ($135/year) and comes with three games each month and a 10% Humble Store discount. You'll get to choose your games from the monthly batch if you're subscribed to one of the lower tiers. Meanwhile, the Lite plan is $5/month ($45/year) and only comes with access to Humble Trove, and a 10% store discount. In recent months, Humble Monthly games have included Slay the Spire, BattleTech, Sonic Mania, and Guacamelee! 2.Info from Gamespot.com

"Well, they have a lot of free games to play -- but actually they're way more engaged outside the subscription. They go out to stores and buy more games than they did before they joined."The company also found 91% of subscribers polled say they have played a title they wouldn't have without Game Pass. The data shows users are playing 30% more genres than before they subscribed. Simonetta compares this to video subscription services, which gives users a chance to experiment with a new genre they may not have tried before.Simonetta also echoed the sentiments we've heard from Descenders publisher No More Robots, that Game Pass actually appears to boost sales rather than cannibalize them. He said that on average, a game that goes into Game Pass gets a six-fold increase in usage. He also pointed out that publishers have publicly commented on the trend in regards to their own games, citing both Afterparty and Descenders.Info from Gamespot.com

In the wake of Blizzard's high-profile punitive action against a professional Hearthstone player, a protest at BlizzCon is moving forward as planned, according to its organizers. In a statement to GameSpot, organizer Dayton Young said that while the company's reduction of Blitzchung's penalty was "a small step in the right direction," its decisions still deserve censure from the community.Young cited Blizzard's punishment of Blitzchung, as well as the event casters and the American University students who protested in solidarity."That Blizzard has shown a willingness to re-evaluate their decision is a small step in the right direction, but make no mistake; Blizzard continues to punish these individuals despite widespread outrage from gamers around the world," Young said."We understand that game publishers and developers have a responsibility to moderate the content that appears on their platforms to ensure that gamers are safe from harassment, threats of violence, and other dangerous behavior. But silencing gamers who speak up about issues that affect their freedom makes us all less safe from oppression and institutional abuse."For that reason, Young said the protest plans are "moving forward full-steam ahead." The demonstration is scheduled for November 1, the first day of BlizzCon, at 12 PM. It will take place outside the Anaheim Convention Center venue.Blizzard initially sparked a firestorm of controversy when it punished professional Hearthstone player Ng Wai Chung aka Blitzchung after he spoke out in support of Hong Kong protests in a post-match interview. This led to calls for a boycott of Blizzard products and the announcement of a planned BlizzCon protest. The company partially rescinded its punishment, giving back Chung's monetary winnings and reducing his ban from one year to six months. It also reduced its punishment for the event casters, and gave a matching punishment to the AU students--who made a point of criticizing Blizzard for failing to give equal punishment for the same offense. That didn't appear to quell the controversy entirely, however. Blizzard abruptly cancelled an Overwatch launch event in NYC, and while it didn't state its reasons, the ongoing backlash appeared related. The company is now reportedly banning users in its Twitch chat who express support for Hong Kong. Most recently a group of five members of the US Congress wrote a joint letter to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick urging the company to reconsider.Info from Gamespot.com
