Assassin's Creed Shadows update 1.0.5 is now live and, as detailed in the patch notes, brings major improvements to the game's parkour as well as not one, but two, unexpected crossovers. The first crossover is with the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight. A free Dead by Daylight-inspired quest has been added to Assassin's Creed Shadows that will see Naoe investigate a strange presence attacking the people of Harima. The patch notes state that players will need to "master unique mechanics and confront a formidable otherworldly threat" to complete the event, after which they will be rewarded with a free trinket and banner. Dead by Daylight cosmetics will also be available in the game's store. As for the second crossover, it's with indie sensation Balatro. A Balatro-inspired trinket for Naoe and an amulet for Yasuke, both called "Winning Hand," have been added via the update. The items sport a legendary perk that has a chance to trigger a random affliction effect on combo enders. Ubisoft, however, isn't simply giving aways the new item. The patch notes state players will need to "work together to figure out how to get it" but doesn't offer any other clues, so let the hunt begin.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic will launch July 21, Blizzard has announced, and there will be a new way to get brought up to speed for those who haven't played some of the game's previous Classic expansions.Blizzard has long sold WoW character boosts, and in WoW Classic, started selling them ahead of the arrival of The Burning Crusade Classic. The boosts give players who didn't play the previous expansion a chance (for a price) to jump straight into the new content. This time, however, Blizzard is giving players a way to earn a boost for free, but it will require some legwork. One free level 85 character boost will be given to players who defeat the Dreadlord Balnazzar, the first boss of the new Scarlet Enclave raid added in April to WoW Classic's more experimental Season of Discovery servers, before June 30. Those who have already defeated Balnazzar prior to the announcement of the promotion will be retroactively awarded a boost.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The interior artwork shows Ellie surrounded by a horde of people who have succumbed to the Cordyceps fungus.Season 1 of The Last of Us didn't receive a Steelbook Edition until March of this year, so it's cool to see Season 2 will have one on launch day. The Last of Us Season 1's Steelbook Edition has been going in and out of stock since its reveal, but Amazon currently has it available for $50.Season 2's bonus features haven't been revealed yet, but we're hoping to see something similar to the Season 1 release, which includes featurettes on each episode as well as a disc filled with short documentaries and interviews. We do know that the 4K Blu-ray edition displays in native 4K (2160p) resolution and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. Switch 2 units are seemingly beginning to appear in the wild ahead of the console's official launch next week. Multiple images and videos (some of which were pulled as this article was written) circulating online show what appear to be Switch 2 systems in stores and even potentially already at home with some users. But the systems may nothing more than paperweights for now, as the Switch 2 is said to be unable to be used without a day-one mandatory online update. That might mean that anything more than further impressions of what it's like to hold the unit will have to wait until launch day. You can read our initial hands-on impressions with Switch 2 for some sense of what to expect. We can't say for sure if any of the leaks thus far are legitimate. It's a certainty that Nintendo is shipping units to stores ahead of the June 5 launch, so it's possible that some legitimate footage is emerging and that people may have already gotten their hands on a unit.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In addition to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima has his next few years of game development laid out for him between his horror title OD and Physint, an upcoming action-espionage game that will revisit the genre of his most famous creation, Metal Gear Solid. Now, Kojima has disclosed that the genesis of his return to the MGS-style genre came during a personal health crisis."Of course, I have lots of new ideas that I want to create, but when I became sick during the pandemic, I realized that a lot of people wanted me to make something like Metal Gear," Kojima told Edge Magazine via GamesRadar. "That's when I had the idea for a new espionage game. I reflected, and thought the idea was good."Like the Death Stranding games, Physint will be published by Sony, while OD will be published by Microsoft. Earlier this year, Kojima noted that both games have been impacted by the ongoing voice actors strike. But even without that delay, Kojima noted that Physint is still "five to six years away" from release, which may push it outside of the current console generation.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With marquee franchises ranging from grand adventures like The Legend of Zelda to niche series like Metroid, few video game publishers have a stable of properties as extensive and varied as Nintendo. But though many of these franchises are regularly supported with new installments, many more have been left languishing in dormancy--and among them, few are as frequently clamored for as F-Zero. Despite the ongoing wait for a new title, however, the futuristic racing series has actually been experiencing something of a quiet resurgence over the past few years. This revival began in earnest in 2023 with the surprise release of F-Zero 99, a battle royale-style twist on the original F-Zero offered as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service. Like Tetris 99 (and the short-lived Pac-Man 99) before it, F-Zero 99 invigorates the series' classic formula by exploding the player count, with 99 competitors all vying for first place. But whereas Tetris 99 is a battle of attrition, a grueling contest to whittle down and outlast the competition, F-Zero 99 is still very much a racing game at heart; unlike other battle royale-type games, your objective is not to eliminate other players (although it is greatly encouraged, as doing so replenishes your health meter), but to outmaneuver them over the course of four laps. The increased player count makes these high-speed contests even more nerve-wracking, and the difference between success and failure is often measured in milliseconds. The result is exhilarating. Though it may not be an entirely new entry, F-Zero 99 is a refreshing spin on the series, one that offers a tantalizing glimpse at a potential path forward for future installments. The expanded player count amplifies the high-stakes thrills of F-Zero's best moments--of negotiating winding, hazard-laden tracks and hairpin turns at lightning speed as other vehicles ricochet and explode all around you. More importantly, the game stands as proof that, contrary to what disgruntled fans may claim, Nintendo has neither forgotten about nor abandoned F-Zero.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Perhaps the most notable of the bunch is the Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook, as it will become one of only four Lord of the Rings Lego sets in print today and costs less than half the price of the next-cheapest LOTR Lego set. The new Lord of the Rings display model releases June 1 alongside the Hogwarts Express and Sherlock Holmes Book Nook building sets. All three Book Nooks are available to preorder now at multiple retailers. Lego Lord of the Rings - Balrog Book Nook (1,201 Pieces) $130 | Releases June 1 Lego couldn't have picked a better reference to use in the Lord of the Rings: Book Nook. The 1,201-piece set features a buildable Balrog figure with a placard that reads: "You shall not pass." This pays homage to the conversation between Gandalf, who is represented as a Lego minifigure, and a Balrog in the movie adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring. In the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, the exchange is worded "cannot pass" instead of "shall not pass."Lego's new Book Nook display models can be displayed in multiple different ways. After building the frame that houses Balrog and Gandalf, you can close it like a book, as shown above, and wedge it between two Lord of the Rings books on your bookshelf. Every time you look at it, the Balrog will remind you that you should probably read The Hobbit before The Lord of the Rings. For big readers who own numerous copies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, this Lego set looks like a cool way to spice up a shelf filled with collectible editions of Tolkien's fantasy stories. That said, it's also the cheapest Lord of the Rings Lego set in print right now--by a considerable margin. The only other Lord of the Rings Lego sets currently being produced are the 5,471-piece Barad-dur tower for $460, the sprawling 6,167-piece Rivendell replica for $500, and the recently released recreation of The Shire for $270.For that reason, the Balrog Book Nook could be of interest to fans who read all of their books on Kindle. You can display the Balrog and Gandalf minifigure with the frame unfolded. The base has flames extending upward on both sides of the Balrog. When opened, the Book Nook is 17.5 inches wide, 8.5 inches tall, and 6.5 inches deep. Alternatively, you can remove the Balrog and Gandalf minifigure from the base altogether. If you need more Lord of the Rings books to keep the Balrog Book Nook company, check out our newly published roundup of new and upcoming Tolkien book box sets and budget-friendly collector's editions. Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Lego Store Lego Harry Potter: Hogwarts Express Book Nook (832 Pieces) $100 | Releases June 1 Harry Potter's upcoming Book Nook is an 832-piece recreation of Platform 9 and 3/4 at King's Cross Station. The scene depicts Harry and Ron pushing their trunks through the hidden entryway to board the Hogwarts Express. The set includes a buildable Hogwarts Express and minifigures of Harry and Ron, who are accompanied by their pets, Hedwig and Scabbers. The build has strategically placed mirrors designed to make the train look larger. The Hogwarts Express Book Nook functions a bit differently than the Lord of the Rings model, as books can be placed between each side when it's fully unfolded. When closed like a book, you can move the Harry and Ron minifigures to their cabin with Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans accessories. The closed display model can then be placed on your shelf between your Harry Potter books. The Hogwarts Express Book Nook is $30 cheaper than the other two, but the piece count is lower and its slightly smaller overall at 6.5 x 15 x 2.5 inches. You can preorder the Harry Potter Book Nook for $100 at Amazon. Fittingly, the model has several interactive secrets, including a fake wall in Sherlock's apartment and Moriarty's hideout, which are revealed when turning a dial. After Bungie was hit with plagiarism allegations for its Marathon revamp, more information has been revealed about other problems within the company. Aside from a toxic work environment coming from the top of Bungie, company heads were pitching to give Destiny 2 a subscription service on top of already paying for a PlayStation Plus membership.Former Bungie employees spoke with Save State Plus, claiming that leaders were quick to shut down ideas and would publicly belittle staff. "Everything happening to Bungie is because of greed," said a former Destiny 2 developer, which was the focus point for many former employees. When higher-ups pitched a subscription model for Destiny 2, it was only allegedly shut down due to the staff's "vehement" opposition. That would mean players would pay for a sub on top of other necessary subs like PS Plus, depending on your platform. Bungie's leadership followed that up by reportedly holding a meeting where the staff were given a "monetization scolding" for not enabling enough microtransactions.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Following the recent closed test for FBC: Firebreak, game director Mike Kayatta from Remedy has revealed some of the changes that the studio is making to the game based on fan feedback.Kyatta said Remedy has received lots of important and helpful feedback so far, and this will result in major changes to weapon balance. "Guns are upgradable in Firebreak, but we now think we went too far with how weak they felt at the earliest levels," Kyatta said. "In response, we are making all level-one guns radically more powerful, while adjusting other parts of the game to maintain the challenge balance."Kyatta added that it heard from players that the double-barrel shotgun did not feel quite right, and the studio agrees, so it's making some changes to "make sure it meets the expectations of its shooting style." The developer also mentioned how "everything" related to general combat intensity and difficulty levels has been overhauled. "Among other things, we're tying different enemy types to different threat levels, adjusting wave frequency and composition, and removing awkward lulls in the action," Kyatta said.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
