Luigi's Mansion 3 releases on Nintendo Switch this Thursday, and for those looking to get their hands on Nintendo's latest game, the best deal may be at Walmart. As with other recent releases, Luigi's Mansion 3 will be on sale for $49.94 at Walmart stores right at launch, according to deals site Cheap Ass Gamer. Unfortunately, these discounts don't usually extend to Walmart.com, so to save $10 on Luigi's Mansion 3 this Halloween, you'll need to drive to your local Walmart store.News: Luigi's Mansion 3 (S) Will be $49.94 via Wal-Mart Retail Locations Starting Thursday. pic.twitter.com/LgvlphPczp — Cheap Ass Gamer (@videogamedeals) October 28, 2019This is the latest in a continuing pattern of release-day deals at Walmart, with major games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, The Outer Worlds, Borderlands 3, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses getting the same in-store treatment. While other stores like Amazon or Best Buy will frequently price match any discounts posted online, the in-store release-day deals remain a Walmart-specific tactic that's shown no sign of stopping.Nintendo's spooky adventure earned an 8/10 in GameSpot's Luigi's Mansion 3 review. Critic Kevin Knezevic took issue with some aiming issues and cumbersome puzzles, but he praised Luigi's satisfying new abilities and the collectible-filled hotel you never want to stop exploring."The strength of the Luigi's Mansion series has always stemmed from the satisfaction of exploring its carefully constructed settings, and in that regard Luigi's Mansion 3 certainly succeeds," he wrote. "The game may not radically diverge from the series' formula, but it offers up another meticulously crafted set of challenges to overcome while smoothing out some of the issues that held Dark Moon back, and the sense of accomplishment you feel when you clear a particularly head-scratching obstacle is just as potent now as the first time Luigi unwillingly strapped a vacuum to his back and stepped into a haunted mansion."And for those of us without a Walmart store nearby, never fear--you can still take advantage of this free, printable, and absolutely terrifying Gooigi mask from Nintendo. Electronic Arts seem to be enjoying the financial benefits of the live service model. In a press release, EA confirmed that live service games are performing "above" expectations.EA exec Blake Jorgensen gave the announcement, stating that a few key live service titles spearheaded financial performance for the company. "The strong results this quarter illustrate the power of our live services and our core franchises," Jorgensen said. "Strength in Ultimate Team, The Sims 4, and FIFA Online drove live services performance above our expectations."With live services doing so well for EA, Jorgensen confirmed plans to "double down" on the model going forward. "Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises," Jorgensen said. "We're investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply. This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond."It's an interesting proposition, considering the myriad of troubles BioWare's Anthem has faced. Most recently, the looter-shooter ditched the "Acts" structure to usher in seasonal updates. Still, the company's other live service titles--like Battlefield V and the various Ultimate Team modes--continue to rake in billions of dollars. And EA's popular battle royale Apex Legends has just reached 70 million players. One of EA's upcoming, hotly-anticipated titles isn't of the live service type. Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a third-person action-adventure game launching on November 15 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox OneInfo from Gamespot.com

Ahead of its quarterly earnings call, EA released the financial results for its latest quarter in a press release. Though there are notable highlights for several of EA's sports games, Apex Legends also made a big splash in the quarter by reaching 70 million players."The strong results this quarter illustrate the power of our live services and our core franchises," EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen said. "Strength in Ultimate Team, The Sims 4, and FIFA Online drove live services performance above our expectations. Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises. We're investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply. This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond."Existing in the same universe as Titanfall and Titanfall 2, Respawn's battle royale, Apex Legends, has had a busy nine months. The game hit 1 million players within the first eight hours of being released, which increased to 2.5 million after a day and 25 million in a week. Apex Legends Season 2: Battle Charge saw the battle royale game's map undergo significant changes and the addition of limited-time events. Season 3: Meltdown upped that with a whole new map and the first of Apex Legends' holiday-themed celebrations: Fight or Fright.EA is primed to go into the next quarter with several new games already announced. The most significant is another game by Respawn, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 15. Need for Speed: Heat--which implements some welcome changes to its predecessor's formula--is also on its way, as is a new Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.Info from Gamespot.com

A new entry in the Battlefield series is in the works. During its latest fiscal earnings call, EA confirmed that a new Battlefield game is in development for next-gen consoles, and it's launching sometime before March 2022.EA hasn't shared any concrete details about the new Battlefield game, but it did tease that the title will be "targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms." The company also confirmed the title will ship sometime in fiscal year 2022, which runs from April 2021 to March 2022.Speaking further about the game during the Q&A portion of the call, EA said "The goal of Battlefield for [fiscal year 2022] is to really take advantage of a larger install base of the new consoles. Bringing out Battlefield next year, where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22."In the meantime, EA still has plans to support Battlefield V. The game's 5.0 update arrives on October 31 and takes players to the Pacific Theater of World War II, which includes two new maps--Pacific Storm and Iwo Jima--along with new weapons, vehicles, and other gameplay changes. EA says it will "add new content and new ways to play" Battlefield V in fiscal year 2021.Battlefield V launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in November 2018. GameSpot awarded it an 8/10 in our Battlefield V review. Critic Michael Higham wrote, "The Battlefield series has a winning formula that Battlefield V doesn't deviate far from, at least for now. Conquest and the map roster don't mesh well together, however, Grand Operations--and the other modes within it--steal the show and foster some of the greatest moments the franchise has offered."Info from Gamespot.com

During the call, Jorgensen praised Apex Legends' growth since its launch. During its latest quarterly earnings call, EA revealed its intentions to treat Apex Legends as an "annual shooter." Respawn's battle royale game has been on a roll lately, with Season 3: Meltdown seeing Apex Legends reach a playerbase of 70 million, and its publisher has indicated it wants to build on that growth for years to come."We have heavily invested in live services the past 10 years," EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen said on the call. "Obviously [Apex Legends] is a new live service which we will invest heavily in to try to continue to grow that business. We view that as an annual shooter franchise effectively and we're trying to build that as a 10-year business ... We're very excited about the roadmap that the Respawn team has put in place."No one at EA clarified what this new designation for Apex Legends means. As a live service game, it's unlikely--though not impossible--that EA plans to make Apex Legends into its own franchise with new sequels every year as Activision does with Call of Duty and Ubisoft used to do with Assassin's Creed. It could be that EA plans to have large-scale, meaningful content additions each year. Although this makes the most sense and is in line with trends for live service games, this is speculation on our part. That said, Jorgensen did reveal what players can expect to see in Apex Legends in the near future. "The key with [Apex Legends]--as is the case with any live service--is test and learn, test and learn," Jorgensen said. "We're continuing to add new events in each season to try and understand spending patterns and what people like to spend money on and how much they'll spend. And we'll then tune those events over time, so there's going to be holiday-themed events, like [Fight or Fright], competitive-style events, gameplay-style events, and events associated with new characters or--as you saw in this new season--a new map."With Apex Legends being treated as EA's new annual shooter, the publisher is pushing DICE off of the annual Battlefield and Battlefront track that the studio has been on since 2013's Battlefield 4. Instead of immediately transitioning to Battlefield 6 or Star Wars Battlefront III, DICE will instead spend the next year focusing on developing new content and providing additional support for Battlefield V and Star Wars Battlefront II. Ahead of the call, EA released a press release detailing the studio's success with live service games this past quarter. "Strength in Ultimate Team, The Sims 4, and FIFA Online drove live services performance above our expectations," Jorgensen said. "Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises. We're investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply. This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond."Though EA is pushing for more games that will keep players invested for longer periods of time, the publisher isn't completely done with traditional, single-player games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order--a single-player game with no loot box microtransactions--is EA's next major release, scheduled to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 15. Fallen Order's release will also mark EA's return to putting its PC games on Steam, not just Origin.Info from Gamespot.com

Martin's book Fire & Blood and take place 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The series will tell the story of House Targaryen."The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories," explained Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. "We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George."Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones, House) will direct the pilot and additional episodes for the series. In its latest quarterly earnings call, EA said it hasn't forgotten about the Titanfall franchise. Though nothing is currently in the pipeline, the dream of one day seeing Titanfall 3 is not yet dead."We really want to keep the team hyper-focused on [Apex Legends] because we see there's so much opportunity there, so I can't give you a sense of if and when [Titanfall 3] will come, but it's still a great brand and we certainly won't forget about it down the road," EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen said on the earnings call.In the meantime, EA seems more than content to rely on the Titanfall spin-off, Apex Legends, to fulfill the publisher's annual shooter quota--at least for the immediate future. "We view [Apex Legends] as an annual shooter franchise effectively and we're trying to build that as a 10-year business," Jorgensen said. "We're very excited about the roadmap that the Respawn team has put in place." EA expressed interest in providing further support to Apex Legends in 2020, citing the game reached a playerbase of 70 million in the last quarter.A new Titanfall game isn't the only sequel to an EA shooter franchise that's not currently scheduled for 2020. DICE is getting pulled off the annual track it has been on since 2013's Battlefield 4, so the studio will not be focusing on Battlefield 6 or a new Star Wars Battlefront in 2020. Instead, over the next year, DICE will develop additional content and provide further support for Battlefield V and Star Wars Battlefront II."The strong results this quarter illustrate the power of our live services and our core franchises," Jorgensen said in a press release. "Strength in Ultimate Team, The Sims 4, and FIFA Online drove live services performance above our expectations. Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises. Several new details about upcoming streaming service HBO Max have been revealed during a WarnerMedia investor call. We now know that the new service will debut in May 2020 with over 10,000 hours of content, including a continuation of Adventure Time and a brand new Green Lantern series. Prior to this we learned that the new service would have exclusive rights to Friends, and will allow you to stream the films of Studio Ghibli for the first time ever. The new app was shown off during the investor call, giving us our first glimpse of what HBO Max will look like. Below are screengrabs taken during the call, showing off the app's UI and features. The app will open to a Netflix-style user selection screen, which will allow you to differentiate between adult and child accounts easily as you add them. The front page shows off the curation lists that will be a prominent part of HBO Max--if you want to follow Regina King or Bill Hader, or anyone else featured, you'll be able to receive recommendations from them. The web app looks, unsurprisingly, a lot like Netflix when you move into the selection screens, except with all the HBO content that Netflix is missing. The Max Hubs page lets you easily access the major franchises and licenses that HBO Max has. It'll be easy to view the Studio Ghibli catalog, or look over the library of Cartoon Network, or binge through all of their DC shows and movies. We also got a look at the mobile app, and how it'll scale for a smaller screen and portrait orientation. Here's a peek at one of the curation videos on a mobile device. This one is from Zac Efron recommending The Exorcist, his "go-to scary movie."Each celebrity curator will have a page for you to follow, listing their choices and providing a personal statement. We were also given a glimpse at the parental controls available in the new app, showing how easy it will be to make sure that your children aren't watching Game of Thrones. HBO Max will feature every season of Sesame Street, among other things.HBO has also today announced a new Game of Thrones prequel series, Fire & Blood, while also cancelling a different prequel series that was to star Naomi Watts.Info from Gamespot.com

As a remaster of the 1998 puzzle-platformer of the same name, MediEvil holds up reasonably well. Its cartoonishly charming characters and varied, if relatively simplistic, level design both stands the test of time and looks better than ever thanks to a complete graphical overhaul. But as much as MediEvil can feel like a warm blanket of nostalgia--especially for those of us who played the game 21 years ago--it also feels incredibly dated, with jittery controls and camera issues that regularly get in the way of progress. You play as Sir Daniel Fortesque, a dead knight who is returned to life when the sorcerer Zarok makes an unexpected return to Gallowmere, bringing with him hordes of monsters. Fortesque remains every bit as charming a character as he was; his gnarled teeth, warbly voice, and single, rolling eyeball lose none of their charisma in the remastering process. Zarok's design hasn't aged well, though, and the new visuals leave him looking like a plastic doll who’s been left out in the sun too long. Enemy designs are otherwise just as fun as ever, with many tying in closely to their given map’s visual themes.Challenging puzzles, light platforming, and hack-and-slash combat make up the bulk of what you do in MediEvil. The land of Gallowmere feels stuck in a perpetual state of Halloween, with each level brandishing its own delightfully spooky artistic twist to it. The diverse range of locations makes for some wonderful variety in the look and feel of each level; a graveyard, a pumpkin patch, a large hedge maze, and a floating town in the middle of a lake are a small selection of the good choice of maps to slash your way through.Combat is reliant on simple hack-and-slash controls, and this feels underwhelming in the beginning--not only do you feel initially weak, but one of your two main attacks is so slow and unwieldy that it's borderline useless. Most frays are chaotic at best, rarely involving anything more than mashing the attack button while running around to avoid damage, so having one of your main attacks feel pointless is a real bummer. A handful of new abilities that you gradually learn spice things up a touch but also feel awkward to use, like a charge attack that lets you force enemies off platforms by charging into them with your shield up.However, combat gradually improves as you earn more powerful weapons and start to deal a more satisfying amount of damage. You earn new weapons by killing enough of the enemies wandering around a level, which will fill and reveal a hidden chalice. This grants you entrance to the Hall of Heroes--an in-between level where characters from Daniel’s past offer up new weapons. Filling and finding each chalice isn’t essential for progression, but the extra effort it takes to do so is very much worth it. Because it's a straightforward remake, a big issue with MediEvil are the aspects that feel dated by modern standards. Progression often relies on some variety of fetch-quest, like collecting the right runestones to unlock the next door or gathering a few items to encourage some help from a new character. This encourages exploration around hidden corners or through smashing boulders blocking a new path, which can be rewarding when you find a stash of gold or a health-extending life bottle, it can also lead to much annoyance as you grapple with the game’s occasionally nonsensical camera. When in an open area, the camera acts like any other third-person camera and can be controlled with relative ease, only rarely getting caught in the world geometry. But when inside a cave or a building the camera switches to a fixed view, doing so regularly and without warning. Not only does it look and feel clumsy, but it also switches the movement to tank controls for as long as the camera is stuck in place, which is a tremendous hassle. The result is often jerky and awkward movement, which can be a killer during combat, and these controls are even worse when trying to navigate puzzles and platforming sections.Adding to these frustrations is the fact that mid-level checkpoints are non-existent, so when you die, you go back to the beginning, which becomes a problem when combined with MediEvil’s annoying movement and another one of its aging design concepts: watery death. It can be so easy to fall foul of some bad geometry and slip to your death that any surface around water will become instantly anxiety-inducing, such is the consistency with which I found myself in this situation.Furthermore, character health is continuous across the game--finish a level with low health and you’ll either have to tackle the next one with what you’ve got and hope for the best, or backtrack to a previous one and try to find as much health as you can before attempting to move forward. Stack that on the ever-growing pile of issues, and MediEvil becomes the kind of grind that makes you want to put it down and never come back to it.MediEvil does have some nostalgic charm, but due to its bevy of issues, it feels not just old, but undeniably outdated. For every part that helps us look back fondly on a time when games were made differently, there’s another that reminds us of how far we’ve come in those years since. MediEvil's delightful level and character design mostly still stands tall, but its combat and controls largely fall well short of what feels tolerable by modern standards, and it left me feeling wholly ambivalent to its existence. Just when you thought you were starting to grasp how the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover might play out, Arrow is here to take a quick turn, unraveling almost any theory you could possibly have. As the CW series continues its final season, the episodes are designed mainly to continue setting the stage for the massive Crisis event that kicks off in December. However, after the latest episode--titled "Leap of Faith"--everything had changed. Warning: The following contains spoilers for Arrow Season 8, Episode 4, "Leap of Faith." If you don't want to know what happened, stop reading now.In the final moments of the episode, Mia (Katherine McNamara), William (Ben Lewis), and Connor (Joseph David-Jones) were transported from their future to present day, right in the middle of the Arrow cave. It's there that they lay their eyes on Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the rest of the team. "Dad?" Mia asks through tears, realizing she's meeting her father for the first time. This is just the latest twist in the Monitor's (LaMonica Garrett) plans for Oliver and the multiverse as a whole, with Crisis on Infinite Earths getting closer. After sending Oliver on several missions, he's now brought the Green Arrow his own children to help in the upcoming fight. We already knew the crossover would be loaded with familiar faces, including multiple Superman, along with the stars of The CW's other superhero shows--from Legends of Tomorrow to Black Lightning. Adding the future Team Arrow to the mix, though, is a wrinkle Oliver is likely going to have some trouble with. After all, how focused will he be on the task at hand if he's also watching over his son and daughter on the battlefield?Of course, it also makes you wonder what will happen after Crisis on Infinite Earths. We already know a spin-off of Arrow is being developed with Mia at the center, joined by Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy Rodgers). Is it possible that series could be set in present-day, which would mean Mia is sticking around long-term? That's a question that will hopefully be answered before the Arrow series finale.Arrow airs Tuesdays on The CW.Info from Gamespot.com

Xbox Insider members who are part of the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings in either the US or UK are now able to test out Xbox Console Streaming, which allows users to play Xbox One games on devices other than the television they have the console hooked up to.Right now the program is limited to Android mobiles or tablets, Microsoft has announced, which must be running on Android 6.0 or higher and feature Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities. A Bluetooth enabled wireless Xbox One controller is also required. If you meet all of these requirements you'll be able to stream your Xbox games collection, including Xbox Games Pass titles, to a mobile device.Microsoft recommends the use of a controller mount too for maximum comfort. This will allow you to take your Xbox games experiences on the go, as long as you have a strong enough Internet connection or data allowance. Earlier this month Microsoft began the promised public trials for xCloud, allowing Insiders to stream games through their console. The next Xbox, codenamed Scarlett, is poised to support game streaming as well, although Xbox head Phil Spencer does not believe that streaming will fully replace traditional console experiences anytime soon.Info from Gamespot.com
