The Pokemon Company has cancelled the Japanese launch event for Pokemon Sword and Shield that was due to take place in Tokyo next week. Lead producer Junichi Masuda, and game director Shigeru Ohmori, were both scheduled to appear at the event. In an apologetic statement, the Pokemon Company cited "operational reasons" for the event's cancellation. Both Masuda and Ohmori gave a round of interviews last month, with Sword and Shield's controversial lack of a National Pokedex being a hot button topic. "There were a lot of discussions about which direction we should take that in," Masuda explained in an interview with Eurogamer. "Ultimately we felt that, for the overall game, focusing on creating the richest experience we could within that game, leaving the Pokedex as we did was the best solution overall."The angry discourse surrounding the National Pokedex's exclusion has hit a fever pitch this week as Sword and Shield leaks have begun to emerge, detailing which Pokemon would not be returning this time around. The topic has even been dubbed "#Dexit" by fans, in reference to the game's UK-inspired setting. There's nothing suggesting fan anger led to the cancellation of Sword and Shield's Japanese launch event, but it wouldn't be the first time a scheduled event was called off due to potential threats. Square Enix was forced to cancel four Starwing Paradox tournaments earlier this year after several death threats were sent to the game's management team. A man was also arrested by Tokyo police after threatening Square Enix with an arson attack, stating that he would repeat the Kyoto Animation tragedy.Blizzard recently cancelled an Overwatch Switch launch event in New York City, too. No official reason was given for the abrupt cancellation, but it seemed to stem from backlash the company received due to the actions it took against Hearthstone player, blitzchung, after he voiced support for the ongoing Hong Kong protests.Pokemon Sword and Shield launches on November 15 for Nintendo Switch. Piccolo Studio in Barcelona, Spain was founded by three partners who've known each other for 20 years, and in 2019, they're releasing their first video game, ever, Arise: A Simple Story. For two decades, the partners ran successful interactive ad campaigns for global brands like Coca-Cola--but that corporate lifestyle grew stale. As the team puts it on their website, "We were making money and winning awards, but it wasn't fulfilling. Making video games [has] always been a childhood dream, so we went for it. Starting from scratch in a risky industry was a leap of faith, but we were looking for that missing spark in our lives. If you fail, at least fail doing what you like."Narrative designer Alexis Corominas says he wants to be able to look back, remember, and be proud of the work he's done. That mentality is reflected in Arise--the game begins with the death of an old man, who reawakens in limbo. From here, you'll explore 10 different memories from the man's past."Every level of the game is dedicated to a single feeling," Corominas explains. "If you connect all the feelings in the game, it's like a roller coaster of emotions. These are universal feelings. The goal of the game is to touch people."Levels play out without any dialogue--music swells as you platform through various setpieces, but characters from the old man's past don't speak to one another. Arise focuses on emotions rather than story.Of course, Arise is still a game you play. The old man can run, jump, and use his grappling hook to swing from various points. But Arise's central mechanic is the ability to scrub through time. Some levels let you move between morning and night, while others stretch out across full seasons. In all cases, moving forward or backward in time changes the level around you, as animals, objects, and platforms shift over the course of minutes, hours, and days. One stage (seen in the gameplay above) had us leaping across giant sunflowers. The flowers follow the sun across the sky and tilt as the day progresses, allowing us to change the angle of the flowers as we leaped across gaps. The same stage had a handful of snails that would slowly move throughout the day, letting us hop aboard their shells to reach higher platforms. The goal of the sunflower level is to chase down a kite that belonged to a friend from the old man's childhood, representing a happier time in his life. The following level (also seen in our gameplay video) is not so joyful: a mountain range slowly ripped apart from the center, forcing us to rewind and bring cliffs back together as we make our way to the summit. In the end, the reason for the schism was made clear: that same childhood friend was going away, leaving the old man on one side of the divide as his friend was pulled away, both literally and figuratively. This reflexive level design is accompanied by an art style reminiscent of Tequila Works' Rime. That checks out, as Rime's art director Jose Luis Vaello is also the art director for Arise. Vaello's work is inspired by Disney's Fantasia and the "Disney of Japan," Studio Ghibli. It's a good match for the game, as it's levels are focused on emotional moments rather than plot points.Arise: A Simple Story releases on December 3. It's headed to PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store.Info from Gamespot.com

This Summer, Dwayne Johnson's Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Shaw exploded onto cinema screens in their very own outing, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Arguably the most entertaining characters from the recent Fast movies, it made total sense that these two tough guys would play a bigger role in the franchise. The movie was exactly the dumb fun we expected, with an emphasis on the dumb, as Chris Hayner pointed out in his review, there were a few too many quirks that spoiled an otherwise entertaining movie. We recently had the chance to sit down with director David Leitch (Hobbs & Shaw, John Wick, Deadpool 2) at McLaren's hi-tech HQ in the United Kingdom, to talk about how he approached the various elements that made this larger-than-life action movie a huge hit with fans worldwide.GameSpot: How did you walk the line between Hobbs & Shaw being its own film with its own identity, but also tied to the Fast & Furious franchise?David Leitch: You do want to make sure you’re true to the canon as much as you can be, and I think that the Fast fans are so loyal, and true, and rabid. That's a testament to Chris Morgan who's really been the architect of maintaining those characters and building them series after series, so I wanted to make sure that we were true to Hobbs' character and true to Shaw's character. We had a chance to explore their backgrounds, and that was really exciting to me; spending a little more time with Shaw and his family, seeing where that would go and setting up that world. Then Hobbs and his family and setting up this custom car world that he’s from. You mention Chris Morgan, when you were working on this film, did you work very closely with him to make sure that this film did follow the lore of the Fast & Furious?Chris was the gateway and policed me when I needed to be policed, and he encouraged me to expand things. When I felt like maybe that wouldn’t appeal to Fast fans, he knew what would. So when we decided to go bigger with the set pieces he was like, "you can always go bigger, you can always be more expansive, you can always defy physics." People want to go on this fantastical journey in this universe now, and it's happened progressively, and Hobbs (& Shaw) is just another extension of that. We tried to approach this movie true to the fans and what the fans would like, and that was a real mandate from Dwayne. If we knew that fans would like it, and that they would be entertained by it, and we thought there was satisfaction in it for the fans, we went for it.This film delves into a science fiction element with Brixton, what was the thought behind that, and is that an element of the franchise you’d like to explore more?I would like to explore it more. I think exploring Eteon and Brixton in moving forward would be really interesting. When you're trying to find an antagonist to stand up against Jason Statham and The Rock, you need someone who is formidable. We had Idris Elba and he's formidable and he probably could have done it without cyber enhancements, let's be honest, but it didn't hurt to have that element to raise the stakes for our heroes. It's sci-fi but we’re not that far off. Near future we're going to be enhancing our bodies, and there's already next generation prosthetics, people altering their vision, and augmented reality. These things are so close that it’s not as far off as them being street car racers that end up becoming spies for a secret organisation. In terms of unrealistic action were there concerns about that? Is there a limit you do have?I think there's some limit, I don’t think we were really concerned about that limit, obviously if you see the movie you know they’re jumping from buildings and we're definitely playing the physics and playing with the idea of the action set piece. But as we steered into Hobbs & Shaw, there were some things that I wanted to do with it. I wanted to take it tonally in a more comedic way, and a fun way, and I really wanted to lean into that superhero genre that is so beloved now by the world. If you notice how Fast has been evolving, it's been sort of leaning that way anyway, but could we really make these guys real-life superheroes? People have enjoyed those types of movies so much, can we make this brand have a little bit of that flavour as well, and we weren't afraid to make those leaps in the set pieces. Will we see Hobbs and Shaw team up again and push the boundaries of the Fast & Furious franchise? We'll have to wait and see. If you missed the movie in theaters, or you want to relive the larger-than-life action, Hobbs & Shaw is now available on digital platforms, as well as Blu-ray and DVD.Fast 9 will be the next movie in the franchise to hit theaters, arriving May 22, 2020. Though it won't feature The Rock, it'll sport an all-star cast including Fast veterans Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris, as well as recent additions Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren, plus newcomers John Cena and Michael Rooker.Info from Gamespot.com

The hopes and dreams of Skate fans longing for a fourth entry in the series briefly appeared to be dashed, when it seemed as if EA had chosen to abandon the Skate trademark. In fact, that now looks as if it's not the case.A listing by the United States Patent And Trademark Office (USPTO) showed that the trademark was re-upped on February 16, 2018, back before rumors started swirling around E3 2018 of a potential Skate 4 reveal. Obviously those rumors were quashed when nothing was announced at the show, and now, as of August 1, 2019, EA looked to have abandoned the Skate trademark--seemingly putting to bed anymore Skate 4 speculation. However, it's now been discovered (via VG247) that a separate trademark listing--the one originally filed in 2009--has been renewed as of this summer. So all hope is not lost for some future Skate game.A trademark is considered abandoned when an applicant doesn't respond to correspondence from the USPTO. GamesRadar notes that legal resource site Justia shows the Skate trademark's application history and the various attempts made by the USPTO to contact EA. Justia did also list another Skate trademark that will remain active for the next decade, so it's possible EA simply had no reason to keep both patents active at the same time. None of this points to anything new happening with the Skate franchise. Fortunately, Session exists and is currently available on Steam Early Access before eventually coming to Xbox One at some point in the future. It's not quite Skate 4, adopting a more hardcore simulation-style approach to digital skateboarding, but it is shaping up quite nicely. This story has been updated with additional details regarding the renewed trademark.Info from Gamespot.com

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's latest DLC fighter, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, has finally arrived alongside the game's 6.0 update, but that isn't the only new content for the title this week. Nintendo is also offering another free Spirit Board Challenge Pack for Switch Online subscribers. The Spirit Board Challenge Pack 3 is available now. Whereas previous packs contained items related exclusively to the game's Spirit Board mode, this one comes with 5,000 Gold and three Classic Tickets, which will let you continue a Classic Mode run if you're defeated without dropping its intensity. You can grab the free pack by going into the Switch Eshop and selecting the Nintendo Switch Online option from the left sidebar--the pack will be listed under exclusive offers. Alternatively, you can select the Eshop icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's main menu and see the pack listed with the game's other DLC.As was the case with the previous two Spirit Board Challenge Packs, you can only claim this freebie if you have an active paid NSO subscription; you can't grab it during a free trial to the service. Subscriptions are available for US $4 / £3.49 / AU $6 for one month, US $8 / £7 / AU $12 for three months, and US $20 / £18 / AU $30 for one year. Nintendo also offers an annual Family Membership that costs US $35 / £31.49 / AU $55 and covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts across multiple systems.Terry Bogard, meanwhile, is the fourth DLC fighter to arrive as part of Smash Ultimate's $25 Fighters Pass. One more as-yet-unrevealed DLC fighter is still on the way by February, but that isn't the end of the game's DLC; earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed it is working on even more DLC fighters for Smash, but it hasn't shared any more details beyond that.Info from Gamespot.com

At long last, Death Stranding has been released on PS4, marking the end of years of anticipation for Hideo Kojima's first game following his split with Konami. Just ahead of its PS4 launch, the rumored PC version was confirmed for release next year. If you'd rather explore the post-apocalypse on PC, the game is now available for pre-order on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The PC version isn't coming until Summer 2020, and no exact release date has been set. While the PS4 version is being published by Sony, the PC version is being handled by 505 Games. The initial PC announcement didn't detail which storefronts it would be available on, so with today's pre-orders open we now know that it's coming to Steam and EGS, if not more marketplaces. Unlike some recent games, which have launched exclusively first on Epic before coming to Steam, Death Stranding will release simultaneously on both stores whenever it does arrive. If you are setting off on your journey today, be sure to check out our wide wealth of guides, including beginner's tips. You also may want to keep a close eye on your save files for the game, which have a tendency to balloon on PS4. It's a pretty long game, too, so be prepared to stay in the apocalypse for a while."Death Stranding is a hard game to absorb," Kallie Plagge wrote in GameSpot's review. "There are many intertwining threads to its plot, and silly names, corny moments, and heavy exposition belie an otherwise very simple message. That comes through much more clearly in the game's more mundane moments, when you find a desperately-needed ladder left behind by another player or receive a letter from an NPC thanking you for your efforts. It's positive without ignoring pain; in fact, it argues in both its story and its gameplay that adversity itself is what makes things worth doing and life worth living. It's a game that requires patience, compassion, and love, and it's also one we really need right now." The last few weeks of the Season of the Undying have seen a bunch of new Exotic weapons added to Destiny 2. If you're willing to work through a bunch of puzzles and delve into the Pit of Heresy, you can get Xenophage, a new Exotic machine gun. There are also quests to complete to snag the Heavy ammo bow Leviathan's Breath, the Deathbringer rocket launcher, and Divinity, a trace rifle you'll need to brave the Garden of Salvation raid to unlock. But if you're tired of working hard for your Exotics, good news: Xur is back this weekend and he's got a few you can purchase without a lengthy Exotic quest to hassle you. Here's where to find Xur today and what weapon and armor he's selling for Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters this weekend. Destiny 2 News And Guides Where Is Xur Today? Spawn in at Winding Cove, then head north toward the cliff at the edge of the area. Climb up to the crashed Fallen drop ship to find Xur standing on the cliff's edge, just to the right of the ship. You can see the exact location in the map below.Xur's current locationWhat Is Xur Selling? Most everything Xur is offering this week is from Destiny 2's first year, which means if you've been playing for a while, you likely have all the armor on offer. The one Year Two item he's got in his bag is Cerberus +1, an auto rifle from the Forsaken expansion that's great for dumping a lot of ammo on a target in a short amount of time.If Xur's wares aren't compelling, you can always roll the dice on the expensive Fated Engram he brings with you. This gives you a single Exotic from the limited pool of ones you haven't already earned, for the price of 97 Legendary shards. If there's something you're missing from your collection, it's a good deal, but be sure to purchase it on the character who's missing the Exotic, and note that you can only get one per week, so choose wisely which of your characters makes the buy. If you're a PC or Xbox One player taking advantage of cross-save, you can now potentially get Wavesplitter from the Fated Engram as well.Xur Item Lineup (Nov. 1-5)Cerberus +1 (Exotic pulse rifle)Transversive Steps (Exotic Warlock leg armor)Frost-EE5 (Exotic Hunter leg armor)Eternal Warrior (Exotic Titan helmet)Cerberus +1Xur's weapon offering this week is the Forsaken auto rifle Cerberus+1. Instead of one barrel, it packs four, and all of them spray ammo at the same time when you fire it--making it a little more like a shotgun than an assault rifle. Aiming down the sights concentrates the spread of projectiles a little more, but it's a spray-and-pray kind of weapon, so keep that in mind while using it.Transversive Steps (Warlock)If you want to be a speedier Warlock, Transversive Steps can help. The boots increase your sprint speed overall, and sprinting for a short while will automatically reload your currently equipped weapon. Popular streamer Ninja has provided his thoughts on FaZe Jarvis Khattri's permanent Fortnite ban, saying the punishment was too harsh for the pro gamer who was caught using aimbot cheats.Tyler "Ninja" Blevins said Jarvis is a "stupid kid making a stupid decision" but felt that a permanent ban is "just silly." According to Ninja, content creators and regular players should be handled differently by companies seeking to dish out punishment."There's a difference between a content creator who has millions of subscribers, hundreds of thousands of followers, who gets banned from literally what makes him money and some kid who is a piece of s*** who has absolutely zero following, has zero money that comes from gaming, and hacks," Ninja said. "You ban that kid, nothing happens to him. Nothing happens. 'Oh no, he can't cheat anymore.' You ban Jarvis... It's different. The stakes are different, it should be handled a little bit differently."Just look at the situation. It needs to be handled different because it's different. A content creator cheating who's entire life is about the game he's playing and some random who has no YouTube channel, no Twitter account--he doesn't even care, he just cheats. He hacks to hack. You ban one, you ruin his life. You ban the other, he makes another account and keeps cheating. It's different. It has to be handled differently."Ninja admits that his initial reaction was wrong later in the Mixer livestream but does believe the punishment for juveniles and an adult should be different, just as they are in the legal system."A kid cheating at a video game is a little bit different than a grown adult cheating at a video game. An adult should be able to experience and think things over and [reflect on] consequences because they've experienced life longer and they realize that everything in life has consequences," Ninja said. "As a child, they need to learn these things. Should the bans be the exact same? Technically not, because when someone usually commits murder past the age of 18 [or] 19 they're considered an adult and that's why they get tried as an adult. If you are under the age of 18 there's a reason [why] you're not tried as an adult right away because you're not mentally all there ... [The punishment] should be the same for all kids under the age of 18."While he thinks the ban should "100 percent be there" and that Jarvis was "truly clueless" for not knowing the consequences, Ninja states that popular games like Fortnite will be affected if content creators are handed severe punishments and permabans. "Without your content creators as well, though, it has a negative impact on your game," Ninja said. You can listen to Ninja's full thoughts in the stream below, where he starts discussing FaZe Jarvis at a little past the two-hour mark. More thoughts on Jarvis occur around the 2:43:00- and the 3:02:00-mark. Info from Gamespot.com

In typical fashion, Red Dead Redemption 2's recent release on PC has already seen modders unearth some hidden oddities by accessing the PC port's game files, whether it's a mod that lets you fly across the map as an eagle, or one that lets you take control of a sheep. However, one player discovered something far more spooky than Bovidae-related hijinks. On the Red Dead Redemption subreddit, user DaniMoz discovered that you can use mods to play as Princess Isabeau Katharina Zinsmeister (or IKZ for short). "IKZ is in the game files, using mods to play as her. This is what she looks like," DaniMoz posted. For those unaware, IKZ is a character in Red Dead Redemption 2 who's been missing for 15 years by the time Arthur Morgan shows up. She never appears in the game. There are posters throughout the map offering a reward from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for her safe return, and some trunks with her initials imprinted on them have even been spotted at the fence in Van Horn Trading Post. There's also an NPC near Elysian Hall who informs the player he's looking for the missing princess, but she's never been found. The posters state that IKZ disappeared at the age of five during a royal visit to the United States in June 1884. Players have picked up on the fact that the poster describes her as having blonde hair and birthmarks on her right hand and left cheek, with some trying to find her using these distinct features as a general guide--along with the estimation that she's probably around 20 years of age during Red Dead Redemption 2's main story.By using the Lenny's Simple Trainer mod, you can access her character model by typing "CS_PrincessIsabeau" into the "models" line in the Ist.ini file of the mod. Eurogamer notes that she does have birthmarks on her right hand and right cheek, which differs from the poster saying she has one on her left cheek. Other than this, her appearance seems to match what was described. Why her character model is hidden within the game's files is a mystery, however. Perhaps Rockstar was planning on using her in a quest that was eventually scrapped, or maybe she was hidden somewhere on the map this whole time. She was probably hanging out with Gavin, to be fair.If you fancy picking the game up yourself, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a worthy PC port, for the most part.
