Respawn has announced the next update for Apex Legends will go live on December 3. The new update adds a vast increase to the in-game level cap and also makes some welcome changes to how Apex Legends' progression system works. The biggest change included in the update is the increase in the level cap. Since launch, the level cap for Apex Legends has been 100. Come December 3, that number is jumping up to 500. As a part of this change, there are now new level badges in Apex Legends--each one is earned every 10 levels between 110 and 500.Level cap increase, progression changes, and even more Apex packs.Starting December 3, we're making changes to Player Level progression. The new season has transferred the Apex Games to a brand-new map, World's Edge, and seen the arrival of a brand-new playable character, Crypto. Black Friday sales are taking off in all segments of the gaming industry, whether you're in the market for games, hardware, or accessories. Several retailers and online portals are already running deals ahead of the traditional shopping holiday, which falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, or November 29. If you're in the market for some Electronic Arts PC games, the Origin online portal is already running its sale, featuring some deep discounts from EA's catalog--as well as on some non-EA games, too. Though the latest entry into the Star Wars game pantheon, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, isn't on sale, you can still get a Star Wars fix with Battlefront 2 at $16--a 60% savings.Among the most notable discounts right now is on Need For Speed Heat. It's already down to $40 from the usual price of $60, despite only being released on November 8. GameSpot gave Heat a 7 out of 10, with reviewer Richard Wakeling writing, "With only a select few events, no discernible difference between each car's handling, and a simplistic driving model, Need for Speed Heat does stumble into repetition during its final few hours. It's not quite a rip-roaring return to form, then, but this latest entry puts the Need for Speed series back on the right track. ...Need for Speed Heat may not revolutionize racing games, but it's the best the series has been in a long, long time."A few other titles released this year are also seeing their prices cut down. You can snag Madden 20 for $36 (40% off), FIFA 20 for $30, (a savings of 50%), and Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville for $30 (a 25% cut). There's also BioWare's live service game Anthem, which is down to $18 for its Standard Edition and $24 for its Deluxe Edition (previously $60 and $80, respectively). Nintendo has had a busy year releasing new entries in several fan-favorite franchises, including Pokemon Sword and Shield, Super Mario Maker 2, and even Luigi's Mansion 3. Another game that many fans took a liking to was The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, a remake of the classic Game Boy adventure game. With Black Friday 2019 finally upon us, we've rounded up all the available deals to help you get Link's Awakening at its best price this holiday season. What's fascinating about Link's Awakening on Switch is that it's a full remake of the original, accurately recreating locations, dungeons, and boss battles with a new visual style. This game not only offers a nostalgic revisit for long-time fans, but it's also a stellar way for recent newcomers to experience one of the series' finest entries. The Zelda remake earned an impressive 8/10 in GameSpot's Link's Awakening review."If you haven't touched a classic Zelda game in a while, Link's Awakening will almost instantly transport you back to the '90s," wrote Peter Brown. "It's simple, in many ways, but the orchestrated journey still conveys a sense of adventure, and this new version is without question the best way to experience it. And more than anything else, it will put a smile on your face. Remakes are a dime a dozen nowadays and often easy to overlook. Don't make that mistake with Link's Awakening." That said, you can still find the game for little over $10 off its original launch price of $60. The best deal is currently at Ebay, where you can get a brand-new copy with free shipping for $47. This iteration of Link can be a bit hard to find online, but you can currently find it for $16 at both GameStop and Best Buy. For comparison, it's a whopping $35 at Amazon. However, that doesn't mean you can't import it. Currently, Amazon has the Limited Edition for sale for $134. Don't expect Microsoft's next-generation console, Project Scarlett, to put much of a focus on virtual reality. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in a new interview with Stevivor that Microsoft is building the new console based on what fans are asking for--and "nobody's asking for VR."Spencer said in the interview that he has a number of issues with VR as a platform, beginning with the fact that he sees it as an "isolating" technology that separates people instead of bringing them together. Virtual reality technology may one day explode in popularity, but for now, it is a niche market, Spencer said, so the company doesn't plan to focus on it."I have some issues with VR--it's isolating and I think of games as a communal, kind of together experience," Spencer explained. "We're responding to what our customers are asking for and… nobody’s asking for VR. The vast majority of our customers know if they want a VR experience, there’s places to go get those. We see the volumes of those on PC and other places."Spencer added that VR as a market isn't big--"nobody's selling millions and millions" of VR headsets, the executive said. This may one day change, but for now, Microsoft has no plans to focus on VR for its new console.Microsoft originally had plans to support VR on an Xbox platform. When Microsoft announced the Xbox One X back in 2016, the company said the console was VR-ready, though nothing ever came of this. In 2017, the Xbox website removed mention of virtual reality support for Xbox One X.Spencer has said he believes VR will eventually "find its spot" in gaming--but it might not be soon. "I don't think the creators in the game space have yet found--well, they haven't obviously perfected the craft of building VR games," Spencer said. "It's so early; I think we're a couple of years before we'll really see that hit mainstream."In a thread on Twitter, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said he thinks Spencer has made an astute observation about VR. He added that the revenue from VR games spending so far has amounted to a "rounding error of [a] rounding error."The data suggest that Phil Spencer is spot on with his assessment of VR gaming. Perhaps someday this market can develop, but it's been years and the overwhelming majority of games consumers just don't care. Rounding error of rounding error for games spending, tiny niche. — Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) November 26, 2019It's cool tech... VR gaming pushes boundaries and can provide experiences no other platform can. But it also has severe limitations when it comes to pricing, play pattern and play environment most will never be able to adopt into their lifestyles. Definition of permanent niche. — Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) November 26, 2019Of all the possibilities for gaming's future, the market opportunities are in breaking down barriers for players, making it easier for people to play and to connect with others. VR, by it's very nature, doesn't work that way. VR can be a successful niche, but a small one. — Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) November 26, 2019Hundreds of millions have been invested into the VR gaming market... thinking of the opportunity costs, what all those people could have made with all that investment, and all the money those products could have made... makes my money loving heart hurt. — Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) November 26, 2019Spencer and Piscatella are not alone in doubting VR as a commercially viable platform currently. Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red recently said it's not afraid to launch the game close to the VR-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx because VR is a teeny tiny niche of a market. Valve is only releasing Half-Life: Alyx as a VR game because it wants to boost VR hardware sales, according to CD Projekt Red.Xbox Scarlett launches in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite as a launch title.Info from Gamespot.com

Rainbow Six Siege's Operation Shifting Tides update is just around the corner. In addition to introducing two new Operators, the update will make an array of balance changes to numerous weapons and characters, and now Ubisoft has shared some more details on what's being adjusted. On the official Rainbow Six Siege website, Ubisoft has previewed some of the balance changes Operation Shifting Tides will bring to the game. As previously mentioned, a handful of weapons will receive adjustments, including the M-12 SMG, whose damage is being increased from 36 to 40. The FO-12 shotgun's damage, meanwhile, is being decreased beyond 10 meters, while the SASG-12's spread is being increased.Numerous Operators will also receive some adjustments. The highlight intensity of Glaz's scope is being increased to better help him spot enemies. Kaid's Impact Grenades are being replaced with barbed wire, and the radius of his Electroclaw is being increased from 0.75m to 1.3m. Meanwhile, Warden's Barbed Wire is being replaced with C4, and Jackal is getting a more significant rework. On top of those changes, Operation Shifting Tides is adding a limb penetration system. As Ubisoft previously detailed, this means that some weapons will be able to hit more than one target per shot, while others will be able to pierce through one body part of an Operator and hit another, potentially inflicting more damage. You can read much more about the new limb penetration system on the game's dev blog.Operation Shifting Tides is live now on the PC version's test servers and is expected to arrive in December, . As previously mentioned, but no official release date has been announced as of yet. As previously mentioned, the biggest addition in the update will be two more Operators: the attacker Kali, and the defender Wamai.Info from Gamespot.com

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is less than a month away from release, and director JJ Abrams has now shared some interesting insight on two major topics. Speaking to Uproxx, Abrams spoke about why Palpatine is returning and how the film will deliver a "true" ending that answers some of the questions fans have been asking for years. On the subject of bringing back the villainous Palpatine, Abrams said it only makes logical sense for the character to return given the story and subject matter."When you look at this as nine chapters of a story, perhaps the weirder thing would be if Palpatine didn’t return," Abrams said. "You just look at what he talks about, who he is, how important he is, what the story is--strangely, his absence entirely from the third trilogy would be conspicuous. It would be very weird."Abrams, who also wrote and directed 2015's The Force Awakens, said he and co-writer Larry Kasdan "didn't do it in a vacuum.""We very purposely looked at what came before. We chose to tell a story that touches upon specific things and themes and ideas that we’ve seen before, to begin a new story," he said. "But we examined all that came before to ask where does this feel like it’s going?"Abrams said The Force Awakens contained "threads" that referenced Palpatine coming back, but he wanted to make sure they were subtle. The 2017 sequel The Last Jedi was written and directed by Rian Johnson, and some wondered if the new director would change things up as it relates to the three-movie story that Abrams and Kasdan had in mind at the start. Abrams was able to meet with Johnson, and upon reading his script for The Last Jedi, he was happy to learn that it didn't impact his wider ideas."When I read the script [for The Last Jedi], I realized this didn't get in the way of anything Larry and I talked about that I thought I'd get to," he said. "There were some very specific things we did get to do in [The Rise of Skywalker] that we were laughing and going, 'Oh my god, we're finally doing that thing we talked about five years ago."The Rise of Skywalker was originally set to be directed by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow with a script from other writers. But after Disney fired Trevorrow, Abrams returned and began the process of finding out exactly where he could take the story."When [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy called and I got back on that train, I started asking where does this go? So, suddenly, we were there having to do it," he said. "The rubber was hitting the road. So, we went back to the threads that were exciting to us and then we found new ones."Little is known about the story of The Rise of Skywalker, though it's expected to be a dramatic conclusion to the Skywalker saga that began back in 1977. Abrams said the film will deliver a "true ending" that should satisfy viewers even if it doesn't answer every lingering question. Some are wondering if we will finally learn more about Snoke, the Andy Serkis character that was seemingly being set up for a big reveal but who died in The Last Jedi. That may not happen, however."I will say, without giving anything away, knowing this movie is an ending is, for me infinitely more challenging than a beginning," Abrams said. "We knew we needed to provide answers. And while there may be some things that aren’t entirely demystified by the end of it, we wanted to make sure people left feeling that they were satisfied. So I hope, on a number of issues, people will leave and feel like that it's a true ending and not an advertising ploy. We really are bringing it to an end."The Rise of Skywalker comes to theatres on December 20.Info from Gamespot.com

Google Stadia has not been out long, but already extra games have been added to the $10 monthly Stadia Pro subscription that all owners of the Founder's Edition have. From December 1, Google Stadia Pro will come with four games instead of the two it launched with--but it's entirely possible that you've already bought the games that will be made available.Google has announced that on December 1 at 9AM PST, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition will be added to Stadia Pro, joining Destiny 2 and Samurai Shodown. Google Stadia launched on November 19 in a few regions, and the Founder's Edition came with a three month trial of Stadia Pro. Until very shortly before launch, the only game announced for the Pro subscription was Destiny 2, which is free-to-play on other systems. Our Stadia Pro lineup keeps on growing! Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Farming Simulator 19 are both coming to Stadia Pro in December. Just log-in & redeem them at no additional charge with Stadia Pro.Check out our blog for additional details → https://t.co/dNveExnzuw pic.twitter.com/9L8K6NWaxj — Stadia (@GoogleStadia) November 26, 2019Of course, these games have been available since launch, and some users have already purchased them. Tomb Raider is available for $10, meaning that quite a few early adopters looking to bulk out their library have likely bought it; Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition sets you back $50 before December 1. As one Twitter user noted, it's possible to request a refund on your purchase.Done! Black Friday 2019 looks to have tons of the year's biggest games on sale, and FIFA 20 is definitely seeing its share of discounts. If you're willing to wait less than a week to hop into the latest soccer sim from EA Sports, you can get it for more than 50% off on PS4 or Xbox One. During Black Friday, you'll be able to grab a copy of EA's soccer (or football, if you live outside the United States) game for just $27 at Walmart.FIFA 20 -- $27 ($60) See at Walmart (PS4) See at Walmart (Xbox One) The sale price only applies to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 20. We haven't seen the Switch version, dubbed FIFA 20 Legacy Edition, in any Black Friday ad thus far. But to be perfectly honest, the Switch version of FIFA 20 is missing a bunch of features and should probably be avoided anyway. Walmart's price will be available for online shoppers starting November 27 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET and in stores on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. On the PC side, EA's official Origin Black Friday sale has begun, and there you'll find FIFA 20 for $30 (along with deals on a variety of other PC games, including some not published by EA).You can check out additional offers on FIFA 20 if you'd prefer to shop elsewhere, and it's always possible that Amazon will swoop in to price match the low prices. But don't expect to find it any cheaper. In our 8/10 FIFA 20 review, Oscar Dayus praised the improvements to Ultimate Team, marveled at the realistic graphics, and came away impressed with how the Volta street soccer mode added to the variety of the overall package.FIFA 20 Black Friday DealsPS4$27 -- Walmart$28 -- Best Buy$28 -- GameStop$30 -- TargetXbox One$27 -- Walmart$27 -- GameStop$30 -- TargetPC$30 -- Origin Black Friday 2019 Deals & News Black Friday 2019 Start Times, Store Hours: GameStop, Best Buy, Target, And More Black Friday 2019: Best Nintendo Switch Deals So Far Black Friday 2019: The Best PS4 Deals So Far Black Friday 2019: The Best Xbox One Deals So Far Black Friday 2019: When Does It Start, Deals To Expect, And More Black Friday 2019 Best Gaming Deals: PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, And PC More Black Friday 2019 DealsNintendo Switch Black Friday 2019 Game DealsPS4 Black Friday 2019 Game DealsXbox One Black Friday 2019 Game DealsGameStop Black Friday 2019 Game Deals DealsAmazon Black Friday 2019 DealsWalmart Black Friday 2019 DealsBest Buy Black Friday 2019 DealsTarget Black Friday 2019 DealsInfo from Gamespot.com

Thanksgiving is just two days away, which means it's beyond time to consider which Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2019 deals you want to take advantage of. A number of stores and online retailers have already announced what they'll have on sale during the shopping holidays, and Ebay has its own share of great deals on games, consoles, and more.Ebay's Black Friday plans include a series of Black Friday "drops" every Friday at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET, from now through December 13. These include "a limited quantity of trending items," such as the Nintendo Switch and Bose headphones. The retailer will also be offering major deals on its Brand Outlet page, which features items from major brands like Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, and Nintendo. This week's drop was for an iPhone 11, but that one sold out fairly quickly. One deal Nintendo fans should take note of: You can get last week's drop, a Nintendo Switch Lite (turquoise) bundle with Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield, for $240. The Switch Lite normally sells for $200, and we don't expect many discounts on it for Black Friday, so if you're interested in both the console and the game, this is an excellent deal to jump on. One of the most-anticipated 2020 Marvel movies is the standalone Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson. Little is known about the story, but now Johansson has shared some details about what to the expect from the superhero movie.Speaking to Vanity Fair, Johansson said Black Widow will begin with the character facing some kind of "crisis." No other details are known, but Johansson added that Black Widow's personal journey in the movie will see her overcoming this struggle and becoming a "more grounded, self-possessed person." She also said some of the themes of the film are self-forgiveness and family."We just wrapped Black Widow like two weeks ago or something like that, so it's very fresh in my mind," she said. "I don't have a total perspective on it yet but it's a film about self-forgiveness and it's a film about family. I think in life we sort of come of age many times in your life and have these moments where you're kind of in a transitional phase and then you move beyond it, and I think in the Black Widow standalone film, I think the character when we find her is in a moment of real crisis.""And throughout the film by facing herself in a lot of ways and all the things that make her her, she actually kind of comes through that crisis on the other side and is able to sort of reset into a space where she's a more grounded, self-possessed person," she added. "That's her journey. Well, I hope anyway."This is not the first time that Johansson has spoken about the standalone Black Widow movie. She previously discussed how Black Widow is a "gritty and multi-dimensional" character who "has a lot of trauma and has led an unexamined life."Black Widow comes to theatres on May 1, 2020. It also stars David Harbour (Stranger Things, Revolutionary Road), Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Little Women), Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener, About a Boy), and Ray Winstone (The Departed, Cold Mountain). It's directed by Cate Shortland (Lore, Somersault), with a script by Jac Schaeffer (Olaf's Frozen Adventure, Captain Marvel) and Ned Benson (The Westerner, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby).
