James Cameron's much-anticipated sequel to 2009's Avatar has crossed a production milestone. A message from the movie's Twitter account confirmed that November 29 was the final day of live-action filming for 2019. To celebrate, the producers shared a behind-the-scenes image that showcases the Sea Dragon, which is a "massive mothership."It must really be a huge beast, as what's shown in the image here is only one part of the ship, which will ferry an "array of other sea-going craft" in the upcoming Avatar sequels. You can take a look at the ship for yourself in the image embedded below.Although filming has passed a milestone, don't expect a first trailer anytime in the near future. "Unfortunately, not anytime soon," the Twitter account said about when a trailer might arrive.In addition to this announcement, the Avatar Twitter account confirmed that Ubisoft's new Avatar open-world game, which is being developed by The Division studio Massive, is still in the works. Ubisoft has been quiet on the project for a long time, so some wondered if plans were scrapped. The game was announced in 2017 and is currently known only as The Avatar Project.Ubisoft and Cameron (and his production company LightStorm) previously worked together on a video game based on the 2009 movie. It didn't fare well with critics, but it was a big commercial success with almost 3 million copies sold.There is no word on a release date for this game at this stage, but a mobile game called Avatar: Pandora Rising is scheduled to release in 2020. The strategy and social game is coming from the entertainment company Fox's gaming division, which new owner Disney is reportedly trying to sell. 2020 will be a big year for the Xbox brand as it hopes to turn things around from this console generation where Sony has dominated. Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty said in a new interview with GamesRadar+that he believes Scarlett has "an advantage" thanks to one feature in particular: backward compatibility.Microsoft has said the Xbox Scarlett--or whatever final name the company gives it--will have the largest launch lineup of any Xbox console ever because it will play titles from Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the original Xbox through backwards compatibility. A person who buys a regular Xbox One today can do with with the confidence of knowing their purchases will move forward should they decide to upgrade. This is is what may separate Scarlett in the next-gen race, Booty said."We want--when you invest in Xbox--to know that you're bringing that legacy content library with you. It's why we think we've got an advantage with Project Scarlett, because our goal is that any game that runs on an Xbox One will run on Scarlett," Booty said. "You're not porting to a different operating system; you're not porting to a different graphics API; you're just running an Xbox game, right? So we hope that that's a big advantage in terms of our initial content library."Microsoft stopped adding more backwards-compatible titles to Xbox One in June this year. The company said it ended the new releases so the company could focus on preparing Scarlett to support four generations of Xbox games. In addition to games, Scarlett will work with regular Xbox One controllers and other peripherals you might already own.Backwards compatibility has been one of the Xbox One's standout features that separates it from the PlayStation 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently expanded with a tournament option for Gunfight mode, which is an tense 2v2 mode where players are thrown into battle with a random loadout (or with nothing, with guns scattered around the small level) and no respawns. It's a tense experience, and players seem to be enjoying it. Now it's been revealed that this mode will be expanded beyond 2v2 at some point, and you'll be able to compete as a team of three or face off against a single other player alone.This news comes via the Twitter of Joe Cecot, the co-design director of multiplayer at Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward. Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese's new movie, The Irishman, carries a lengthy runtime of 3 hours and 30 minutes. That's even longer than Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King's theatrical version (3 hours and 21 minutes). Considering its length, some might reasonably question whether The Irishman would have made more sense as a limited series not unlike HBO's Chernobyl.Scorsese has now responded to this, saying he never thought for a second about making The Irishman a TV show instead of a movie. "You could say, 'This is a long story, you can play it out over two seasons'--I saw somebody mention that," Scorsese told Entertainment Weekly. "Absolutely no. I've never even thought of it."Making The Irishman a TV show would have impacted its storytelling impact, Scorsese said."The point of this picture is the accumulation of detail. It's an accumulated cumulative effect by the end of the movie--which means you get to see from beginning to end [in one sitting] if you’re so inclined," he said. "A series is great, it's wonderful; you can develop character and plot lines and worlds are recreated. But this wasn't right for that."The Irishman was in development hell for years before finally releasing. Netflix was an attractive option for Scorsese to finally get the movie made, not only because the streaming company funded the very expensive film, but also because Scorsese was given more creative control than he might have had under a traditional distribution agreement. He told The Guardian that he might have preferred The Irishman to have a traditional release in theatres, but it wasn't coming together, so he accepted the "trade-off" of coming to Netflix.The Irishman is playing in some theatres and is available to stream on Netflix around the world.
