If you haven't gotten enough of My Hero Academia, don't worry--the next movie is coming to North America soon. My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising will debut in Japan this week, on December 20, while international audiences will need to wait for 2020 for an official release. In a blog post, Funimation announced that My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising will release in US and Canadian theaters in "early 2020." No additional information was provided beyond that, so fans will have to wait a little longer for an exact date. The post did not clarify whether the movie would simultaneously release in both the original Japanese and English dub, but--considering 2018's My Hero Academia: Two Heroes did--it's probable Heroes Rising will as well.Heroes Rising jumps far ahead of the arc currently being told in the anime, telling the story that My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi originally planned as the final chapter for the shonen series--depicting the last battle that Class 1-A ever has together before graduation from U.A. High School. Based on the two most recent trailers, the movie certainly seems to be at the end of the My Hero Academia timeline as we see members of Class 1-A using their Quirks in ways they haven't learned in the anime yet. Midoriya safely fights with One for All at 100%, for example, while Tokoyami controls Dark Shadow while in darkness, and Kaminari manages the amount of electricity he produces and fires his Electrification Quirk without the need for his Sharpshooting Gear. The new trailers offer a first in-depth look at the movie's main villains as well. Primary antagonist Nine is shown to possess nine Quirks and even has the ability to take One for All from Midoriya by force. He's joined by Slice (who can seemingly fire blades from her hair), Mummy (who can seemingly control others like puppets after he's wrapped them in cloth), and Chimera (who appears to have enhanced strength). If you're looking to catch up on the anime, the current season of My Hero Academia is airing this season and is one of GameSpot's must-watch anime of Fall 2019. If you're looking to catch up in time for Heroes Rising's release, however, you should start reading the manga--which should be a lot easier with Shonen Jump's new subscription model.Info from Gamespot.com

Fortnite's hyped Star Wars event took place this past weekend, giving players who queued up at Risky Reels a chance to watch a scene from The Rise of Skywalker ahead of the film's release. That isn't the end of the crossover, however; Epic has also rolled out a limited-time set of Star Wars challenges for you to complete. As usual, most of the challenges are straightforward and can be cleared fairly easily with a little persistence, but there are a couple that may throw your for a loop. One in particular that'll likely prove to be tricky asks you to capture Tie fighter crash sites. If you're not sure where those are located, we've put together this guide showing you where to go.Where Are The Tie Fighter Crash Sites? We've come across five different Tie fighter crash sites scattered around the map. A plume of black smoke will be billowing from the wreckage at each site, so you'll be able to spot the areas from a bit of a distance. If you need help tracking them down, we've marked all the crash site locations we've encountered below:Directly south of Steamy StacksIn the mountains north of Retail RowSoutheast of Slurpy SwampDirectly northeast of Salty SpringsSouthwest of Sweaty SandsHow To Complete The ChallengeTypically for challenges of this nature, your best bet to complete the task as quickly as possible is to land at the area you need to visit. For this mission, however, you'll need to take a more cautious approach, as each crash site is guarded by a cadre of First Order Stormtroopers. Make sure you have a couple of long-range weapons in your inventory before you head to a crash site so you can pick off the Stormtroopers and any competing players also trying to complete this challenge. The Stormtroopers are all wielding First Order Blast Rifles, which they'll drop upon being defeated. Not only do these have unlimited ammo, making them handy to take out other Stormtroopers, you'll need to use the gun to complete another one of the Star Wars challenges, so be sure to pick one up when you have the chance. Once you've cleared out all the Stormtroopers guarding a crash site, interact with the flag at the crash site to reclaim it. Repeat the process until you've reclaimed enough crash sites and you'll complete the challenge.Season 1 of Fortnite Chapter 2 was originally slated to end this month, but Epic has now extended it into February, so you have more time to complete any challenges you haven't cleared yet. If you need help mopping those up, you can find our maps and guides for the trickier ones in our Fortnite Chapter 2 challenges roundup. Spend any amount of time on the Watchmen subreddit or reading what people are saying about the show on Twitter, and you'll see a common criticism coming from disgruntled fans: that Watchmen is too political, or that it espouses the "wrong" politics. But in the final episode of HBO's official Watchmen podcast, which went up after the show's final episode aired, Lindelof says he believes the show's politics are true to the original comics. More importantly, he says those politics are crucial to what Watchmen is."For Watchmen to be culturally relevant in 2019, it has to be some sort of funhouse mirror reflection of the time that we're living in," Lindelof says. "This really fascinating sort of conversation erupted around the show as we were airing kind of the first three or four episodes, which was this idea of like, 'This show is too political,' and also, parallel to that, 'How can this show call itself Watchmen?'"But the showrunner says Watchmen has always been political; in fact, the word "political" was on a list of adjectives that he and the other writers used to describe what Watchmen is while they were still figuring out what the show would be. "But my own personal politics--and I make no bones about the fact that I'm a liberal, I'm very progressively minded," he says. "But at the same time, I think that the original Watchmen is kind of anarchist in its blood, and it has to troll the extremes. So you have to troll extreme liberalism, and extreme progressiveism."As a viewer, it's easy to see where those things manifested, when you look at elements that are on polar opposite ends of the spectrum, like the white supremacist terrorist group the 7th Kavalry, and the overly dramatic trigger warnings that air before the in-universe show American Hero Story.Lindelof says the idea of reparations plays a big part in this duality. "I happen to think that reparations are a really good idea--whether they're reparations for slavery, or reparations for something like the Tulsa massacre--are a really good idea," he says. "I also have to accept that, were reparations actually enacted, that there would be a virulent pushback from a large sector of our society. And do I take sides? Well, again, my side is I think that we have a big white supremacy problem in the United States of America. I'm not here saying, 'There's good people on both sides.' That being said, I'm just presenting what I think would actually happen were reparations to be passed."Specifically, that idea takes the shape of the 7th Kavalry, a terrorist group being supported by a clandestine cell that shares space with the highest levels of government, whose goal is "creating some kind of culture war" that will enable Senator Joe Keene to seize more power. Keene uses the overlap between police and white supremacists to play both sides, ultimately controlling everyone involved. You can argue with the logic of that plan if you want, but there's no denying its thematic relevance in 2019.To Lindelof, the idea of police wearing masks--making them less distinguishable from the bad guys--ties in with the question of why people wear masks in the first place, dovetailing nicely into the themes he wanted this show to explore."What we were trying to get at--the big fundamental idea that is literally stated by Blake explicitly in the fourth episode--is that there's causation between trauma, particularly childhood trauma, and the wearing of a mask," the showrunner says, bringing up comparisons in other superhero origin stories, like Batman and Iron Man."Now let's take that idea and make that trauma about the trauma that was visited upon people of color in America, because that is the American story that's just not really being told enough," he continues, adding that he was terrified that he wasn't the right person to tell this story--something he still feels now. But "[despite] still feeling very much that way, I couldn't resist. I had to do it. I was compelled to do it, and thank god so many other people around me were there [in the writer's room] to prevent me from making catastrophic mistakes, and inform me with their wisdom."Over its nine episodes, HBO's Watchmen presented a complex and multi-layered view of modern day politics, the idea of masked heroes, and the concept of legacy. And in doing so, it really did live up to the name Watchmen. If like us, you can't get enough, check out our explanation of the show's ending, the major questions we still have after the finale, all the Easter eggs and references we spotted in Episode 9, and everything else we learned from the podcast.Info from Gamespot.com

The Last Remnant Remastered has come to mobile devices, unexpectedly bringing the 2008 JRPG to phones and tablets. The remastered version of the game, which was released for PS4 at the end of 2018 and then on Switch earlier this year, is now playable on Android devices running 7.0 or higher or Apple devices on iOS 13.0 or higher. The game, which features a unique command-based battle system that makes you consider troop morality and a story that spans a millennium, is available for $20 right now. That might seem like a lot for a mobile game, but it's worth noting that the game contains no microtransactions whatsoever, and is a full, huge RPG. The game weighs in at 8.5GB on iOS, and just 6.1GB on Android. It's not clear why there's a size discrepancy between the two.In our original 2008 review of the game, The Last Remnant scored a 6.5/10. Reviewer Kevin VanOrd wrote that the game had many visual flaws, but that it was "a fun adventure that will draw you into its finely crafted universe in spite of it all."Info from Gamespot.com

No Man's Sky has seen some major changes during 2019, with the 2.0 'Beyond' update introducing a bevy of changes and additions to the game on PS4, PC, and Xbox One back in August. Then in November, update 2.2 streamlined the play experience further, and now update 2.24 has added a new toy for players to tinker with. Developer Hello Games has added the ByteBeat Device to No Man's Sky. It's a synthesizer and sequencer that lets you program tunes for your base, and it's a surprisingly powerful tool for music creation. The ByteBeat can be set up at a player's base, and from there you can use it to create audio and music that will play from it. The second you drop one it'll start playing sounds that are generated by random waveforms, and from there, you can create your own sounds in the Sequencer. It's a rich tool that lets you modify waveforms, mess around with the individual elements of each track, and sync your sounds up to lights that will flash and pulse in time with the music you create. It'll let you add an extra layer of personality to your base. Paul Weir, the game's sound designer, is excited at the possibility of players creating some "glitchy electronica" in the game.A tweet from Hello Games boss Sean Murray lists everything you can do with the new ByteBeat system. As a neat festive easter egg, a full audio application in No Man’s Sky 🎄🎵Melody Sequencer✉️Envelope editor🌊Waveform editor👨‍🚀BPM/Key/Volume/Attenuation🥁Drum machine🎹Arpeggiator🤖Synchroniser🔗Link ByteBeats🧠Use audio to control objects pic.twitter.com/McWYY2bXu5 — Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) December 16, 2019In GameSpot's re-review of No Man's Sky this year, Justin Clark gave the game a 9/10, writing that "its Beyond expansion are the new gold standard for how to gracefully cope with a game’s flaws post-release." Level 5's well-liked RPG series, Ni No Kuni, received an anime film spin-off in Japan earlier this year. It'll soon be available in the west, but it's skipping cinemas. Momose previously worked for the studio as a key animator. Studio Ghibli is not involved in the Ni No Kuni movie, though; it was produced by OLM, Inc. Gears Tactics, which is coming to Xbox One and PC (including Xbox Game Pass) on April 28, 2020, was first revealed at E3 2018, before dropping off the radar until this year's Game Awards. Now we've learned that game, a turn-based tactical spin-off from the Gears of War series (think XCOM but in the Gears universe), will be single-player only and will not feature cosmetic microtransactions. This news comes via Rod Furgusson, studio head at Gears developer The Coalition, who tweeted it out after being asked for details. For those asking, #GearsTactics is single player and has no micro transactions. Not even cosmetic ones. Everything is earned in game. — Rod Fergusson (@GearsViking) December 13, 2019The Gears of War series has typically had a multiplayer focus, with co-op and competitive modes available in the shooters, including the recent Gears 5; Gears Tactics will be the first single-player only Gears game. Gears 5 also features numerous paid cosmetic items, but in Tactics players won't have the option of spending additional money. There will be plenty of customization options, but you'll have to unlock them by playing the game.Gears Tactics promises a 40-hour campaign, and is set before the original Gears of War.Info from Gamespot.com

The Office's film-within-a-film, Michael Scott's opus Threat Level Midnight, has been posted to The Office's official YouTube channel. The short film, previously only available to owners of The Office season 7 on DVD, is now widely available for free online--and you can watch it below. This 25 minute cut of the film contains all the scenes you remember, and several that didn't make it into the episode. It's not all Steve Carell, either--the rest of the cast, including Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Brian Baumgartner are given a chance to shine with their purposefully bad performances. There are plenty of neat visual gags scattered throughout to keep an eye out for too--an early establishing shot of Scarn's house is revealed to be from a real estate company sign as the camera zooms out, for instance.Watch the film below to revisit the steps involved in doing The Scarn, among other things. You'll even get to learn the origin story of Goldenface in this cut, which is delightfully silly.Threat Level Midnight was first cited in the show's second season, before viewers were finally given a look at Michael Scott's final completed product during season 7, soon before Steve Carell left the show. The Office is the most popular show on Netflix, but it will be leaving the streaming service in January 2021. The show will be exclusive to NBC's own streaming service, Peacock, from then. The network is also considering a reboot of the beloved sitcom.Info from Gamespot.com

Silent Hills was never released, but thanks to the work of game hacker Lance McDonald, new details continue to emerge about the cancelled horror project. McDonald, who previously revealed that Lisa is right behind you as you play through P.T. (the game's playable teaser,) has now uncovered the player model you're controlling in-game.McDonald, who also recently discovered some cut story content in Sekiro, has shown the character model off on Twitter. The identity of the character model shouldn't serve as a huge surprise--it's Norman Reedus, who pops up at the game's conclusion. This is, however, the first real definitive confirmation that you're embodying Reedus throughout the experience, even if that had been the assumption all along.Just to put any uncertainty finally to rest after all this time, yes, the guy you play as in P.T. is the same guy we see in the ending cinematic. Not that there any real doubt, but yeah, it's Norman Reedus the whole time. pic.twitter.com/PXh5svLRSi — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) December 12, 2019It's a small reveal, but a meaningful one, considering that we will never get to experience Silent Hills in full--the next Silent Hill game will be a video slot machine.Reedus would, of course, go on to start in Hideo Kojima's new game, Death Stranding. Kojima has said that he would like to work with Reedus again, and has also suggested that he might return to horror in the future. It's possible that we'll still see Reedus getting spooked by Junji Ito-inspired ghouls eventually.Info from Gamespot.com

During The Game Awards 2019, a new Dungeons & Dragons game, Dark Alliance, was revealed. The game, a co-op action RPG that follows on from the earlier Dark Alliance games, isn't the only Dungeons & Dragons game on the horizon. Baldur's Gate III has also been announced, and several other games are currently at various stages of development.Talking to gamesindustry.biz, parent company Wizards of the Coast president Chris Cocks says that they currently have "seven or eight" D&D games in the works. "We want each game to have a point of view, and to really keep on just a couple of things and do it really, really well," he told the site, suggesting that each project needs to do something different. "What you don't want to do is have every game in the franchise try to do the same thing, and try to do everything all at once."Cocks says that their goal is to facilitate many different experiences. "We want to open it up, open up the narrative possibilities, the character development, open up the level of problem solving and combat opportunities and thrills that players can be able to experience." He says that they'll do this across "a variety of genres." He also says that every game in the works will feature a "single-player experience," even though Dungeons & Dragons is traditionally a co-op experience.According to Cocks, the team is working to mine the considerable lore built up around the Dungeons & Dragons brand across several different games. "Literally thousands of books, hundreds of which are bestsellers... So there is a lot you have to build upon."Baldur's Gate III is in the work at Larian Studios, the developers of Divinity. It will be based on Dungeons & Dragons' 5th edition. Third-person hack-and-slash action RPG Dark Alliance, meanwhile, is coming to PC and unannounced consoles; a release date has not yet been set.Info from Gamespot.com

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is due next year for PS4 and PC, and it's bringing back some key characters from past entries. Gill, the final boss from Street Fighter III, is coming back, and now Seth, who served the same function in Street Fighter IV, has been announced as well.Seth has been shown off in the new trailer below. In addition to their fighting abilities, Seth can also now switch between an overtly masculine and feminine physical form. It's not clear if this can happen mid-fight, or if you choose their appearance beforehand, although the costume selection presented in the trailer suggests that it might be the latter.Seth, who can copy abilities from other fighters, also shows off their three V-Skills in the trailer--Tanden Engine, Tanden Maneuver, and Tanden Ignition. Multiple different costumes are shown at the end of the trailer, including a summer costume and one that comes from the game's story.Seth will be available alongside the Champion Edition when it launches on February 14, 2020.Info from Gamespot.com

Whether it's video games, movies, or TV shows, entertainment is filled with iconic tools of warfare, and much of the stories we love are defined by them; the Pulse Rifle is synonymous with the Aliens franchise; the Man With No Name's mystique and effortless cool is heightened by the revolver he whips out in the squint of an eye; and the sound of a bullet from the Intervention hitting an enemy immediately conjures up Call of Duty-flavoured nostalgia. These weapons are the focus of Loadout, a new show that will identify some of pop culture's most influential armaments and explore them in-depth. Each week, host Dave Jewitt will tackle a different weapon, delve into its origins, examine how it has been used, and lay out the impact it has had on pop culture. In Episode 1, Loadout takes hold of the revolver, a legendary weapon that has been present from the earliest days of cinema to the current era of video games. Why is it so popular? For Episode 2, Dave takes a look at The Intervention, a weapon that Call of Duty players will be intimately familiar with and, given its status as arguably the most meme-able video game weapon, you may know it even if you haven't played the shooter series.New episodes of Loadout will air every Saturday and you can find them on GameSpot's YouTube channel--make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode.Episode 2: The Intervention Episode 1: Revolvers Info from Gamespot.com

One of the biggest reveals at The Game Awards was the announcement of Xbox Series X, which we now know is the name of Microsoft's next-generation console previously known as Xbox Scarlett. We also got a look at the console itself and learned a variety of details in an exclusive interview with Phil Spencer. Responses to the reveal have poured in from people across the industry, but what does the creator of Xbox think about it?Seamus Blackley, who created the Xbox, said on Twitter that he was blown away by the announcement of Xbox Series X. "Well, f**k me. That's ridiculously glorious," Blackley said. "It's always weird for me when a new is announced. It's a combination of pride, nostalgia, geriatric-ness, and the sense of wonder and excitement that these devices produce. There are WHOLE WORLDS in that box. I love this."Blackley hasn't always been this supportive of new Xbox products. Earlier this year, Blackley said he was so disgusted by the new Xbox deodorant and body wash that he wanted to start drinking heavily.Xbox Series X releases in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite as one of its launch titles.
