A new event is now underway in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Much like the games' recent holiday event, which brought an influx of Delibird to Max Raid dens for a brief period of time, this New Year event only runs for a few days and stars another seemingly useless Pokemon: Magikarp. While this event may not initially sound exciting, what makes it special is that you have a much greater chance of encountering a Shiny Magikarp in Max Raids. Shiny Pokemon are exceedingly rare in Pokemon games, and any Shiny Magikarp you evolve will retains its special coloration, making this a good opportunity to add a few Shiny Gyarados to your collection. There's another incentive to take on any Magikarp Raids you come across: You'll receive a ton of nuggets when you defeat or capture the Pokemon. These items can be sold for high prices at Poke Marts, allowing you to start the year off with some extra in-game pocket change. As previously mentioned, the New Year Max Raid event only runs for a couple of days, from December 31 to January 3, so you'll need to act fast if you want to take advantage of it. You can read more details about the event on the official Pokemon website. In other Pokemon news, Sword and Shield players can claim 20 free Battle Points for a limited time via Mystery Gift. There's also still time to claim a handful of rare Poke Balls and a free Gigantamax Meowth, both of which will only be available until January 15. Pokemon Go is ringing in the new year with a bunch of events, the first of which kicks off this week. Starting at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET today, January 2, the egg-centric Hatchathon event returns, giving you a chance to earn extra bonuses and hatch a few special Pokemon for a limited time.Throughout the Hatchathon, you'll be able to earn extra Stardust, Rare Candies, and other rewards like the Unova Stone when you walk certain distances. The Unova Stone is a particularly enticing reward as it is typically hard to come by in the game and is necessary to evolve certain Gen 5 Pokemon such as Lampent. On top of that, Serebii reports that you'll earn twice the usual amount of Candy and Stardust each time you hatch a Pokemon, and you'll have a chance to hatch party hat-wearing versions of Pichu and Wurmple from 2 km eggs. Party hat Pikachu will also spawn in the wild, while party hat Raticate and Wobbuffet will appear in two-star Raids. The Hatchathon runs until 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on January 16. You can read more details about the event on the official Pokemon Go website. In the meantime, Niantic has rolled out another Team Rocket Special Research questline, which leads to a chance to battle Giovanni and catch a Shadow version of Moltres. There's also still time to catch Pokemon Go's current Legendary, Virizion, which is scheduled to leave five-star Raid Battles on January 7. Following Virizion's departure, the Gen 4 Legendary Heatran will return to Raids until February 4, and this time you'll have a chance to encounter its Shiny form. Remember The New Mutants? It's the X-Men horror movie that was originally supposed to be released in 2018, then again in 2019. After Disney completed its purchase of 20th Century Fox, it got yet another new release date--April 3, 2020--but since then not a word has been said about the movie. With the new year approaching, though, there's finally signs of life from the film that stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), and Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass). Director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has revealed a new trailer is on the way.According to a post on Boone's Instagram, a new look at the movie will arrive on Monday, January 6--less than three months before the film bows. "We're very excited to share it with you," the director says. View this post on InstagramNew trailer supervised by myself, co-writer @knatelee and color corrected by the great @peter_deming arrives January 6th. We’re very excited to share it with you! In theaters everywhere April 3rd!A post shared by Josh Boone (@joshboonemovies) on Dec 30, 2019 at 1:17pm PSTThis won't be the first look at the film, though. Aan official trailer originally debuted in October 2017, promising a seriously scary entry into the X-Men film franchise that followed a group of mutants that have yet to be showcased in the movies.Boone previously teased that New Mutants was inspired by both the horror genre, as well as John Hughes movies like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles--and, of course, the New Mutants comics. However, that was before reports of massive reshoots on the film in 2018 to make it scarier. With an April release date looming and a new trailer on the way, though, it might finally be time to see what this movie is about. It's interesting to note, however, that it might not be the final film in the X-Men franchise. Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works under the Marvel Studios banner, which could potentially merge the wildly confusing X-Men timeline with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The New Mutants is in theaters on April 3... Probably.Info from Gamespot.com

We're in the final stretch of Fortnite's Winterfest event, which means you only have a few days left to complete the limited-time Winterfest challenges and unlock some festive rewards. One of the holiday-themed missions asks you to search ice boxes, but unless you're well acquainted with the game's map, you may have some trouble tracking them down. If you fall in that camp, don't worry; we've put together this map and guide to help you out.Where Are The Ice Box Locations? To complete this challenge, you'll need to search two different ice boxes. This may seem daunting at first if you don't already know where to look given the size of the island, but fortunately, there are many more than that scattered around the map, so tracking down two shouldn't be too difficult. We've marked down the ice box locations we've encountered on the map below:Fortnite ice box locationsDirty DocksEast of Pleasant ParkSweaty SandsWest of Holly HedgesWeeping WoodsNorthwest of Slurpy SwampIn the mountains southeast of Lazy LakeHow To Complete The ChallengeNow that you know where the ice boxes are located, all you need to do is track them down. A few of the locations, such as Dirty Docks, house more than one box, so you should only need to head to one of areas listed above and you'll be able to complete the challenge fairly quickly. The ice boxes look like typical freezers, so they shouldn't be too hard to spot. Once you've searched two of them, the mission will be complete and you'll unlock a special spray for your troubles. The Fortnite Winterfest challenges will only be around a few more days, so you'll need to act quickly if you're hoping to complete them and unlock the special Winterfest rewards. Another task that may pose some trouble asks you to destroy snowflake decorations, so be sure to check out our guide for help completing that mission. You can see all of our other maps and guides for this season's trickier missions in our ongoing Fortnite Chapter 2 challenges roundup. Fortnite's Winterfest event is almost over, but there's still a little time left to complete its challenges and unlock special holiday-themed rewards. One task that may pose a bit of trouble, particularly if you don't know where to look, is to destroy snowflake decorations. If you need help finding those, we've put together this guide explaining where to go.Where Are The Snowflake Decorations?Unlike ice boxes, which you need to track down to complete a separate Winterfest challenge, the snowflake decorations are much more difficult to spot because they're small and typically hanging in windows, so it's easy to overlook them. However, the decorations are fairly plentiful, and you only need to destroy three of them to complete the challenge, so you shouldn't have too much trouble tracking the required number down once you know where to look.As previously mentioned, the snowflake decorations are typically hanging on different houses, which can be found in specific named locations. We've spotted decorations in the following areas, so your best bet is to look in any of these places:Holly HedgesFrenzy FarmPleasant ParkLazy LakeRetail RowSalty SpringsHow To Complete The ChallengeOnce you've tracked down a snowflake decoration, all you need to do is either shoot it with a gun you picked up or hit it with your pickaxe to destroy it. Repeat this process until you've destroyed three decorations and you'll complete the challenge. You don't need to destroy all three within a single match, although you will most likely be able to anyway since the decorations are usually hung in bunches. After you've completed the challenge, you'll unlock your reward: a special holiday back bling.Fortnite's Winterfest challenges will only be around a few more days, so you'll need to act quickly if you're hoping to complete them and unlock the special Winterfest rewards. While we don't know what Star Wars stories will be told on the big screen in the future, Disney CEO Bob Iger has hinted at what the future of the franchise could potentially include. With the first season of The Mandalorian ending on the Disney+ streaming service, it's entirely possible it or any of the service's upcoming Star Wars offerings could wind up becoming movies."I don't look at it as just television, I look at it as an extension of Star Wars storytelling," Iger said during an appearance on The Star Wars Show [via Slashfilm]. "What Disney+ has given us the ability to do is to do just that, is to bring Star Wars to people in new ways, and to bring new Star Wars to people. It's not the same places or the same characters. Just look at Mandalorian. While, obviously, there's a lot shared, there's a lot that's really fresh, and I love that."And while Disney+ is allowing new corners of the Star Wars galaxy to be explored, Iger believes it would be easy to take those TV stories and continue them on film--or vice-versa. "I love the ability to really be agnostic in terms of what platform it's being made for," he explained. "And so it could be, down the road, that a TV show becomes a movie and a movie becomes a TV series. I'm not making any announcements here or not, but I think it's important for us to be agnostic."As previously revealed, the second season of The Mandalorian started filming before Season 1 premiered. That will debut in fall 2020, with an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone series following. Based on what Iger is saying, though, either of these shows--or any of the others coming in the future-- could be continued as films. With the Skywalker Saga over after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, perhaps now is the time to give Baby Yoda his own nine-movie series.Info from Gamespot.com

The holidays may be over, but that doesn't mean the sales have to be. The Epic Games Store agrees and has kicked off an encore sale, featuring a selection of the PC games that were on sale during its holiday specials, including Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Control--the latter is one of GameSpot's best games of 2019.The best part about the encore sale is that if you still have a $10 holiday coupon, you can use it on any game that is $14.99 or more. Every Epic Games Store user should still have one, as the holiday sale would grant you another every time you used it on an eligible game. However, unlike the holiday sale, you won't earn any additional coupons--it's one and done in the encore sale. That means you can still get Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for $39.79 or Red Dead Redemption 2 for $38. This brings a lot of these games to their best price yet.The encore sale lasts from now until January 7 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. If you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription, then you don't need to pay anything extra to be able to play a select few of these games. Game Pass's PC library currently includes The Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus, and Metro: Last Light Redux. And right now, you can subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1 for your first three months.During the holiday sale, the Epic Games Store offered a new free game every day. And with the new year, Epic isn't stopping there. It's currently giving away three great games for free: Darksiders: War-Mastered Edition, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and Steep.Borderlands 3 -- $39 ($60)World War Z -- $15 ($35)Metro Exodus -- $20 ($40)The Outer Worlds -- $45 ($60)Red Dead Redemption 2 -- $48 ($60)Control -- $40.19 ($60)Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey -- $20 ($40)STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order -- $49.79 ($60)Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint -- $24 ($60)Rebel Galaxy Outlaw -- $22.49 ($30)The Sinking City -- $36 ($60)Outward -- $16 ($40)RUNE II -- $22.49 ($30)Afterparty -- $16 ($20)Metro: Last Light Redux -- $5 ($20)Superliminal -- $16 ($20)The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series -- $25 ($50)Close to the Sun -- $18 ($30)Slime Rancher -- $8 ($20)Info from Gamespot.com

It's the new year, and the streaming service Hulu has plenty of new content for you to check out this month. From TV shows airing the day after they premiere on television to movies and original programming, Hulu is easily one of the best streaming services available for overall content. Check out everything coming to the service below, along with a few recommendations.Available on January 1 is all three Cube movies. The sci-fi/cult classic Cube from 1998 follows a group of people who are trapped in a cube room, which is part of a much larger cube, and they must find a way to escape. Also, some of the rooms have traps, which can kill you. The 2002 sequel takes the plot of the first film and adds time travel to the mix--in a sense. It's a bizarre but worthwhile sequel. Then there is the 2004 prequel Cube Zero, which takes place from the perspective of someone watching over the Cube experiment. It's not great, but it's a fun watch as well.Aside from sci-fi films taking place in a 6-sided container, there are plenty of other things headed to Hulu you may want to watch. On January 30, the 2019 film Fighting With My Family arrives. The film follows the recreated events that led WWE's Paige from England to NXT to Raw. In his review of the film, Chris E. Hayner said, "So where does Fighting with My Family, the studio's first wrestling-centric biopic, land on that spectrum? As it turns out, it's actually WWE's best movie yet. That's not to say it's perfect, but WWE has taken a piece of its own history and crafted a truly engaging and inspiring film."Below, you'll find everything coming to Hulu this month. The Disney+ series The Mandalorian may be over for now, but there is still a ton of great content coming to the service in January. In December, we saw what the service will have available for the start of the month. Now, Disney+ has revealed what's arriving for the rest of January, and we combined both lists, so there is only one-stop to figure out what you can watch next. Check it all out below.Kicking off the new year--which you can watch now--is the Disney classic Cool Runnings, which is loosely based on the story of the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team. It's the perfect feel-good comedy to start 2020.The live-action remake of the classic animated movie Aladdin arrives on January 8. In his review of Aladdin, GameSpot's Chris E. Hayner said, "Aladdin is good. It's not perfect, but it's a big, extravagant musical that's filled with fun performances, bright colors, and some exciting moments. Will Smith's turn as Genie isn't better than what Robin Williams brought to the character, but it's different enough that it stands on its own merit. And, if you're into this sort of thing--and you should be--Smith has a new rap over the end credits that is themed to the movie."There are some original programs coming to a close at the end of this month as well. The travel docuseries The World According to Jeff Goldblum wraps up on January 24 with an episode about jewelry, as the star of the series finds out what attracts collectors to this item. He'll probably say "bling" at least four times during the episode. Also on the 24th, Encore and Pick of the Litter have their finales as well.Below, you will find everything arriving on Disney+ for January. Infinity Ward has introduced a new mode to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with the start of 2020. The studio shared details about Grind, a deathmatch mode combining two Call of Duty game types into one fast-paced battle for dog tags, in a blog post.Grind, as seen in 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, is an amalgam of Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed, and is now playable on all platforms. The objective is to kill your enemies and collect their dog tags by delivering them to your team's location. Similar to Kill Confirmed, you can deny dog tag confirmations by grabbing them yourself. But you also drop your own dog tag, along with the many you may have collected, when you are shot down.Infinity Ward said Grind "add[s] multiple levels of tactics into an already tension-filled battlefield," and the studio shared several strategies and tips on how to perform best while playing the new mode.Infinity Ward also tweeted a playlist update alongside Grind's announcement, saying the new mode replaces Drop Zone, Shoot House 24/7 replaces Shoot the Ship, and Snowfight has been removed.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received an update on December 18 that added several new pieces of content and implemented numerous balance changes and bug fixes. Packaged within that update were new multiplayer maps brought back from 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The patch also included a new Operator and Special Operation, addressed issues with audio and weapons, and much more. Nintendo is kicking off the new year with another look at one of 2020's biggest Switch titles, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Ahead of the game's release in March, the company has shared a new trailer that offers another brief glimpse at its gameplay--as well as our first look at a returning fan-favorite character. The video, which you can watch below, is presented as a commercial for Nook Inc.'s Deserted Island Getaway Package. An audience of Animal Crossing characters watches clips of some of the new tasks you'll be able to perform in the game, such as collecting material to craft furniture and paving pathways with a new trowel tool. What's most notable about the trailer, however, is that it also provides our first glimpse at Isabelle. Up until now, Isabelle has only been teased for New Horizons, but her appearance in the video confirms she'll indeed return in the game, and her excited reaction to the clips of island life seems to suggest she'll play a fairly major role.In addition to the trailer, Nintendo has released a handful of new Animal Crossing: New Horizons screenshots on the game's Japanese website, along with new key art. The latter in particular is interesting because it reveals two new characters and offers another look at Isabelle, who seems to be showing a village around the island--possibly hinting at her role. Harvey, the dog who runs the RV campground in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, can also be spotted in the background, confirming he'll likewise be returning in New Horizons. You can take a look at new screens and key art below.Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches for Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020. No pre-order bonuses for the game have been announced yet, but you can already reserve a copy at various retailers. You can learn more in our Animal Crossing: New Horizon's pre-order guide, and be sure to check out our roundup of everything we know about New Horizons to catch up on all the details that have been revealed so far.Info from Gamespot.com

Game designer Yuji Horii has confirmed that the next mainline Dragon Quest installment, Dragon Quest 12, is "still a ways away."Horii took to Twitter to share the news on New Year's Day. He couldn't divulge a lot of details in the accompanying statement but said there might be "something we can announce" sometime in the future. The statement, translated by Siliconera, says Horii is grateful to the fans who support the franchise and the staff who support his vision. You can read Horii's full statement below."Last year we started with publishing the movie Dragon Quest: Your Story, then releasing the Switch version of Dragon Quest 11, the mobile version of DQ Walk, the announcement of The Adventure of Dai anime along with its game adaptation, the production of [DQ]12 and more; even now after 33 years have passed since I made the 1st game, I feel very glad that I can do new challenges like these. Thank you very much to all users who have cheered on Dragon Quest until now, and also to all of the many staff members who have supported me. I don't know how long I can go on, but I feel like I want to do my best just a little bit more. I hope this year will be an amazing year to everyone. I'm looking forward to work together in this year."The last Dragon Quest entry, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, was released in 2018 for the Nintendo 3DS, PC, and PlayStation 4. In 2008, Dave Filoni brought Star Wars fans an amazing animated series that expanded on a conflict in the SW universe that the movies grazed over, the Clone Wars. Over the course of six seasons and taking place between the movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, the battle between the Separatists and the Republic army--which consisted of Clones and Jedi. At SDCC 2018, it was revealed Season 7 would be arriving to Disney+. We're only a month away from the release of the new season, but what is this season going to be about?Based on the trailer for the show's return that was released in August, this season of Clone Wars is headed a few different places, and we could even see a connection between this show at Disney+'s The Mandalorian. More than likely, this season will cover the final days of the Clone Wars.In the trailer which you can see above, Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan are seen together, and we know that Bo-Katan has possession of the Darksaber at this time--which Moff Gideon is seen holding in the final episode of The Mandalorian. The real kicker is the appearance of Darth Maul, whose history is tied to Mandalore, as he help cause the civil war there and took it over with the Shadow Collective. He also had possession briefly of the Darksaber and caused Death Watch--the Mandalorian group--to splinter. Needless to say, Maul's inclusion in this trailer may mean we'll finally get to see Palpatine's Order 66 playout in this final season, which will mark the end of the Clone Wars.Although it's a month away from the new season, Disney has yet to reveal exactly when the show will be hitting the service, outside of the month it will begin airing. We do know there will be 12 episodes in the season though, and we'll keep you updated when the specific dates are revealed.Clone Wars Season 7 release schedule:Episode 1 - FebruaryEpisode 2Episode 3Episode 4Episode 5Episode 6Episode 7Episode 8Episode 9Episode 10Episode 11Episode 12Season 7 of The Clone Wars comes to Disney+ in February.Info from Gamespot.com

Vince Zampella, co-founder of Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order developer Respawn Entertainment, will head up EA DICE's LA-based studio, the Los Angeles Times reports. Under Zampella's leadership, EA plans to expand the outfit and have it release an "original" game.Up until now, the LA-based DICE studio has primarily been responsible for providing support for DICE Stockholm, developer of the Battlefield franchise. According to the LA Times profile, the office will remain separate from both Respawn and DICE Stockholm under Zampella's leadership, but will "probably" be rebranded to establish its own identity."We will probably rebrand," Zampella says. "We want to give it a new image. We want people to say, 'This is a destination you can go and make new content.' I think they've kind of gotten the branding that they are the support studio for DICE Stockholm. I think rebranding is important for showing people, 'Hey! Come work here. We're going to do some amazing things.'"While he leads the LA DICE office, Zampella says he will remain on as head of Respawn. Meanwhile, Jedi Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen will lead Respawn's narrative-driven branch, Chad Grenier will oversee Apex Legends, and Peter Hirschmann will helm a VR Medal of Honor game for Oculus Rift called Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. Zampella teases "there might be more" projects underway at the studio as well.Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is slated to release in 2020. The game is set in World War II and has players assume the role of an OSS agent who's charged with subverting and fighting back against Nazis. In addition to a multiplayer mode, the game will feature a single-player campaign that is estimated to last 10-12 hours, along with mini documentaries produced in cooperation with World War II veterans.Info from Gamespot.com

In a tweet from the official Twitter account for the STALKER game series, developer GSC Game World officially announced that it is using Unreal Engine 4 for the upcoming sequel STALKER 2. The previous games, which are several years old at this point, used the proprietary X-Ray Engine that allowed those games to stand out visually at the time with stunning lighting, shadows, and weather, but it seems that Unreal will make things simpler for the devs.GSC Game World stated that "UE was the most suitable choice for us." Its statement continued, "It gives the opportunity to make the game you wait for with the atmosphere of tension and mystery, the flesh and blood of the STALKER universe." The team also mentioned that mods factored into the decision, saying, "Unreal Engine harmonizes well with our goal to make modding more easy and accessible."For those unaware, Unreal Engine is owned and developed by Epic Games. Questions about Epic Games Store exclusivity naturally begin to pop up in light of the engine announcement, but GSC Game World addressed the speculation rather bluntly. It stated, "Yes, we know what you are thinking about, but this announcement has nothing to do with platforms or digital stores. We will talk about this later."S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is powered by Unreal Engine: pic.twitter.com/RdDWr4yYj3 — S.T.A.L.K.E.R. OFFICIAL (@stalker_thegame) January 2, 2020Very little is known about the game at the moment, though it's likely to build on the open first-person shooter/RPG hybrid foundation of the original games. Back in March of last year, the official STALKER 2 website was updated with key art and foreboding atmospheric music. A full STALKER sequel was planned in 2010 and was eventually cancelled in 2012; this upcoming STALKER 2 is a separate project. STALKER 2 is said to launch sometime in 2021.Info from Gamespot.com
