Xbox Game Pass has kicked off the new year with a bang. While a full list of new arrivals for January has not been announced, Microsoft announced this week that it has added Grand Theft Auto V to the Xbox One edition of the service, letting you play the full campaign or jump into GTA Online if you have a Gold (or Game Pass Ultimate ) subscription.GTA 5 received a positive critical reception including a 9/10 from GameSpot when it launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, but its ports to current-generation platforms and ongoing support for GTA Online have kept it going strong for years. Remedy Entertainment's Control is a game that stokes curiosity, upends expectations, and--at almost every turn--inspires awe. Nowhere is this most apparent than in the Ashtray Maze, an area of the game that is teased early on, but only explorable near the end.Like most things in the Federal Bureau of Control, where the seemingly ordinary is often surprisingly extraordinary, the Ashtray Maze looks to be a simple set of hallways, but when it spits you back out from where you came, effectively denying you passage, it becomes clear that there's more to it than just a seemingly out of place art-deco aesthetic. As players later learn, the area is alive with paranormal energy. As protagonist Jesse Faden walks through it the environment shifts and realigns; open doors become blocked corridors, dead ends unfold to reveal new pathways, floors become ceilings, and ceilings become walls. The Ashtray Maze is a standout moment that reminds players of the amazing things that video games, and the creative people that make them, can achieve--and that's exactly what Audio Logs aspires to celebrate. For Audio Logs Season 2, Control director Mikael Kasurinen dives into what Remedy Entertainment did to create the Ashtray Maze. In his own words, what was done to deliver that unforgettable experience is relatively simple even if it looks complex. This, he says, is a testament to the ingenuity of Remedy's development team and its ability to come up with and execute on unique ideas. The Ashtray Maze feels like a magical illusion and, like all good tricks, the players will undoubtedly wonder how it was achieved. In this episode of Audio Logs, Kasurinen breaks the magician's code to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the Ashtray Maze. He shows off early concepts for the sequence, how Remedy challenged itself when making it, the influences behind its visual design, how music was used to elevate the entire experience, and much more. You can watch the Control episode of Audio Logs above and you can also see it on YouTube, along with the entirety of Season 1. The second season premiered with a deep-dive into a key cutscene from Death Stranding, with legendary game developers Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa guiding viewers through its creation.Be sure to subscribe to GameSpot on YouTube to see more episodes as they’re released every Sunday. We have episodes on Persona 5 Royal and Gears 5, as well as a few more surprises, on the way.Control was crowned one of GameSpot's best games of 2019 and, following its release, we had an in-depth discussion about the game as a whole, and what making it taught Remedy Entertainment about itself, with Kasurinen. You can read the full Control post-release interview for more insight into the game and its creation.Info from Gamespot.com

PlatinumGames is gearing up for a big 2020, and is promising some big announcements. The studio is currently working on Bayonetta 3 and Babylon's Fall, both of which we're expecting to see more of this year. In statements given to Japanese website Inside Games (which were then translated by Siliconera), studio president Kenichi Sato and studio head Atsushi Inaba have talked about their plans for the year ahead.Sato says that he promised at the end of 2018 that 2019 "would be a year where the curtain rises for a new stage for PlatinumGames," but that it's happening a bit later instead. "I believe we'll have several big announcements to deliver early in the new year, so please look forward to that."As Sato points out, the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 mean that "the world will be watching Japan," and as a studio representing the country, "PlatinumGames are looking to go all-out, to get attention from fans around the world, and bring smiles to everyone."Inaba's statement is brief, but he promises that "starting early on in the year, I believe we'll continue to roll out various announcements, big and small, throughout the year."We're yet to see actual gameplay footage of Bayonetta 3, whereas Babylon's Fall was reintroduced in December 2019 as part of a Sony State of Play stream. Remasters of Bayonetta and Vanquish are also coming to PS4 and Xbox One. The studio was also previously working on Granblue Fantasy: Relink, before leaving the project in February 2019; that game is still in active development at Cygames Osaka.PlatinumGames released Astral Chain for Nintendo Switch in 2019, their first new IP since The Wonderful 101. It received an 8/10 in our review, with reviewer Michael Higham calling it "an incredible execution of a fresh take on Platinum Games' foundation, standing among the stylish-action greats."Info from Gamespot.com

The first big technology news event of 2020, CES, kicks off this week in Las Vegas. Among the attendees is tech giant Sony, which has now teased some of what to expect from its briefing at the annual tradeshow--but there is no reason to expect any PlayStation 5 news.Sony's CES 2020 landing page teases, "The future is coming." The teaser goes on to offer some idea of what to expect from Sony's briefing, albeit at a very high and ambiguous level. "At CES 2020 Sony is unveiling a unique vision of the future, bringing creativity and technology together like never before, to unleash new sensations and emotions," reads the message. One element of Sony's "future" is the PlayStation 5, which is scheduled to launch this year. There is no word as of yet if Sony will share any PS5 details during its CES briefing, however.Sony is a gigantic company, and gaming--while important to the business--is only one component of the overall organization. Historically, Sony tends to hold dedicated events for PlayStation announcements. The PlayStation 4, for example, was officially announced and detailed for the first time during an event in New York City back in February 2013, which was one month after CES 2013.Sony will most likely mention the PlayStation brand during its CES 2020 briefing given its size and importance to the company's bottom line, but those hoping for new PS5 details may want to temper their excitement.Sony has officially confirmed the PlayStation 5, and the company has also shared some initial details around faster loading times and the guts of the console. However, Sony has yet to formally announce or show off the system.Microsoft, meanwhile, already announced its own next-generation console, Xbox Series X, and showed the first images of the system and its new controller. This console is also slated to go on sale in Holiday 2020 alongside the PlayStation 5.Sony's press conference at CES takes place on January 6 beginning at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. That works out to 1 AM in London and 12 PM in Sydney on January 7. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on Sony's briefing and other news from the Las Vegas show in the days ahead. Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time in Hollywood released in 2019 to critical acclaim, and is nominated for five Golden Globe awards. The film released in cinemas clocked in at 161 minutes, but there's reportedly a four-hour cut that Tarantino assembled and was happy with--and it may eventually see a cinema release.Collider, which hosted a screening of the movie on January 3 which Tarantino and stars Brat Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio also attended, is reporting that a longer version of the film might eventually release. This comes directly from Tarantino himself, who admits that the film was difficult to edit down because they "like(d) everything" in the long cut. When Pitt asked Tarantino if fans would eventually be able to see the longer cut, he responded "Hey look, it’s all good so once this whole thing is said and done, maybe in a year’s time, we probably will."Damon Herriman, who plays Charles Manson in the film, has previously told Entertainment Weekly that he filmed more scenes as the cult leader than what made it into the film, so it's likely that an extended version would feature more of him. It's not uncommon for movies to be excessively long in their first cut, but four-hour versions of films rarely see release. Quentin Tarantino's longest film, Kill Bill, was split into two parts for release; the full version, called The Whole Bloody Affair, runs for 215 minutes.Info from Gamespot.com

A fan-made version of Mother 4 that was announced for a 2015 release before quietly disappearing has resurfaced with a new name and look. Oddity, which wears its Earthbound influences very openly, has been shown off in a new "reveal teaser" trailer below. The game, which looks to be an RPG with turn-based combat and Game Boy Advance inspired visuals reminiscent of Mother 3 (the Japan-only sequel to Earthbound), does not have a release date or platforms announced as of yet. The development team has branded itself as "O197X." The trailer below introduces the characters, showing off much of the world you'll be exploring and the game's quirky sense of style. The game casts players as Travis Fields, who has to team up with some friends to save the world using his Ness-style baseball bat. Players will battle against a secret society called the Modern Men. Few details beyond this are clear right now; the original plan was for the game to be a free release for PC, but this might have changed.Mother 3 is yet to see a release outside of Japan, despite rumors that it would come to the Wii U Virtual Console as Earthbound Beginnings did. For now, games like Oddity and Knuckle Sandwich are the closest we'll get to a new Earthbound game. Info from Gamespot.com

Update: In a video promoting upcoming series on the Disney site, Season 7 of Clone Wars is now arriving on Monday, February 17. However, hours after the video went up, it was pulled from the site. Most Disney original series have new episodes air on Fridays, so fans could get two episodes of Season 7 in one week. In 2008, Dave Filoni brought Star Wars fans an amazing animated series that expanded on a conflict in the SW universe that the movies glossed over, the Clone Wars. Over the course of six seasons and taking place between the movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, the battle between the Separatists and the Republic army--which consisted of Clones and Jedi. At SDCC 2018, it was revealed Season 7 would be arriving to Disney+. We're only a month away from the release of the new season, but what is this season going to be about and when does it premiere?Based on the trailer for the show's return that was released in August, this season of Clone Wars is headed a few different places, and we could even see a connection between this show at Disney+'s The Mandalorian. More than likely, this season will cover the final days of the Clone Wars.In the trailer which you can see above, Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan are seen together, and we know that Bo-Katan has possession of the Darksaber at this time--which Moff Gideon is seen holding in the final episode of The Mandalorian. The real kicker is the appearance of Darth Maul, whose history is tied to Mandalore, as he help cause the civil war there and took it over with the Shadow Collective. He also had possession briefly of the Darksaber and caused Death Watch--the Mandalorian group--to splinter. Needless to say, Maul's inclusion in this trailer may mean we'll finally get to see Palpatine's Order 66 playout in this final season, which will mark the end of the Clone Wars.Although it's a month away from the new season, Disney has yet to reveal the release schedule, outside of the first episode. We do know there will be 12 episodes in the season though, and we'll keep you updated when the specific dates continue to be revealed.Clone Wars Season 7 release schedule:Episode 1 - Monday, February 17Episode 2Episode 3Episode 4Episode 5Episode 6Episode 7Episode 8Episode 9Episode 10Episode 11Episode 12Season 7 of The Clone Wars comes to Disney+ in February.
