Pokemon Go's current Legendary, Virizion, is leaving Raid Battles tomorrow, but a new Legendary is set to take its place. Heatran, the Lava Dome Pokemon originally from Diamond and Pearl, is returning to Raids until February 4, and this time around, you'll have a chance to catch its Shiny form.Starting at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on January 7, Heatran will once again appear in five-star Raids around the world. Not only does this mark your first opportunity to catch this Legendary in quite some time, it's also your first chance to encounter a Shiny Heatran in Pokemon Go.To catch Heatran, you'll first need to team up with other players in-person and defeat the Legendary at a Gym. Heatran is a Fire/Steel type, which makes it especially weak to Ground Pokemon like Rhyperior and Groudon, although Fighting and Water types, such as Machamp and Kyogre, will also have an advantage over it.Heatran's return is one of the many events occurring in Pokemon Go this month. Beyond that, the Hatchathon is also underway until January 16. During that time, you'll be able to hatch and catch special party hat-wearing Pokemon and earn extra bonuses for walking certain distances, such as the rare Unova Stone.Pokemon Go's first Community Day of 2020 is also around the corner. The event is set for Sunday, January 19, although developer Niantic has not yet announced what this month's featured Pokemon will be. You can catch up on other Pokemon Go news below. Sonic's sprint to theaters hasn't exactly taken the blue hedgehog down a smooth road. After loud outcry from fans about Sonic's original (admittedly terrible) design, the filmmakers went back to the drawing board and rebuilt the iconic video game hero from the ground up. The well-done redesign pushed the movie from late 2019 to February 14, 2020. Sonic the Hedgehog will be the perfect Valentine's Day date movie, right?Sonic has been a household name since the early '90s, so there was already an endless supply of toys, plushes, and random doodads available for purchase. Nevertheless, the Sonic movie gives Sega another opportunity to push Sonic merchandise on fans both old and new. Seeing as we're only about a month away from Sonic's theatrical debut, you can bet movie merch is starting to pop up in stores. We have to say: The merch revealed thus far is...strange.If you don't believe us, check out some of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie merch below. We'll add to this list if more bizarre Sonic movie toys are revealed in the coming weeks. Baby Sonic PlushBaby Sonic plush | $10You're probably familiar with the phenomenon that is Baby Yoda. But have you met Baby Sonic, the cute little hedgehog that will try to steal our sweet son's thunder? The Baby Sonic plush is decidedly less cute than his movie design. It looks like the love child of original movie design Sonic and updated Sonic. See at Amazon Spin Dash SonicSpin Dash Sonic | $30There's also "Spin Dash Sonic," which basically turns Sonic into a Hot Wheels-type toy that launches through a gold ring. The box has a picture of the redesigned Sonic. All good, right? Nope. When you open the box, you'll be greeted with a Sonic toy based off of the original movie design. On the bright side: When spinning towards the gold ring, all you'll see is a blur, not the Sonic we'd all love to forget. See at Amazon Sonic Mad Libs (left), Sonic novelization (right)Sonic Mad Libs and movie novelizationOn the less strange side of things, there's a Sonic movie novelization in the works. The middle grade novel clocks in at 144 pages and releases February 14. The cover design hasn't been revealed, but imagine if it's that zoomed in look at Sonic's teeth from the original design. You can also grab an official Sonic movie version of Mad Libs at Amazon for $6.49. See Sonic Mad Libs at Amazon See Sonic novelization at Amazon Sonic notebookSonic the Hedgehog "Speed Freak" notebook | $15Meanwhile, Sega's own storefront has a Sonic the Hedgehog spiral notebook that simply repeats the phrase "Speed Freak" over and over again in English and Japanese on the front cover. It's a big year for the Xbox brand, as Microsoft is launching its next-generation console--Xbox Series X--during the holiday season alongside the rival PlayStation 5. Now, for the first time, Microsoft has shown off the CPU for the Xbox Series X.Xbox boss Phil Spencer updated his Twitter image to show off the next-gen CPU, which sports a copper color. As WindowCentral reports, the core component of the chip is much larger than that of the Xbox One X. It may produce more heat, which could be part of the reason why the Xbox Series X has been purposefully designed in an unusual to stay cool. Here it is: the Xbox Series X CPU Spencer will literally walk around with the Xbox Series X chip in his pocket, just like he did with the Xbox One X chip before the console released, he said on Twitter. Spencer also shot down speculation that he's attending CES 2020, saying he's staying back at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, Washington. Some people speculated that there would be Xbox Series X news during the AMD CES 2020 keynote, but as of yet, that hasn't happened (the show is ongoing). The Xbox Series X launches in Holiday 2020. It might not be the only next-gen Xbox console on the way, as the Xbox Series X naming convention leaves room for other consoles as well. The Xbox Series X will also ship with a new controller that features a "Share" button, which is something that the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 has had since 2013.For lots more on the Xbox Series X, check out GameSpot's extended and exclusive breakdown.Read next: Xbox Series X: Release Date, Specs, Price, And Everything We Know Xbox Series X News Xbox Series X Price: Everything Microsoft Has Said About How Much It Will Cost Xbox Series X: Everything We Just Learned About Microsoft's Next-Gen Console Xbox Series X Exclusive Details: Say Hello To Microsoft's Next-Gen Console Inside The New Xbox Controller For The Series X Console Why You Can't Pre-Order Xbox Series X Yet Xbox Series X: Release Date, Specs, Price, And Everything We Know Info from Gamespot.com

If there was one thing Black Friday 2019 had no shortage of, it was Xbox One bundles. Microsoft's official holiday promotion bundled the Xbox One X or Xbox One S with various games at steep discounts, and those console bundles ended up being some of the best gaming deals available during Black Friday. Since then, all those Xbox One bundles have returned to full price--but if you missed out on the deal back in November, you have an opportunity to snag one of the best Xbox One bundle deals from Black Friday. The Xbox One S bundle with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition is back in stock right now at Ebay, and it's available for just $198. Listed by reputable seller AntOnline, this is a brand-new console that comes with a full warranty and free standard shipping. This deal has been up for a few days, and limited quantity is left, so don't wait if you missed out on this bundle during Black Friday. Please note you'll have to add the item to your cart to see the discounted price during checkout.Xbox One S with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition | $198 ($300) See at Ebay For comparison, the same bundle is still $300 at Microsoft. The Deluxe Edition of the game on its own normally sells for $70, so getting the whole package for just under $200 is a steal. While Xbox One's successor, Xbox Series X, is planned to release at the end of this year, you can't beat this price if you need a console now to play all the games releasing in 2020.And if you're going to start out with one game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an excellent pick. The new single-player adventure earned an 8/10 in GameSpot's Fallen Order review for its challenging combat, well-rounded characters, and more."As it wears on, Fallen Order becomes perhaps the strongest conception of what playing as a Jedi Knight ought to really be like," wrote Phil Hornshaw. "It's true that Fallen Order borrows liberally from other action games, but those elements work together with Respawn's combat and environment design, and a story that finds humanity in the Force and in its characters, to hone in on what makes the world of Star Wars worthy of revisiting again and again. Even with some rough edges, Fallen Order represents one of the most compelling game additions to the Star Wars franchise in years."Info from Gamespot.com

A new month has begun, which means a new batch of Field Research tasks is now live in Pokemon Go. Unlike Special Research quests, which are assigned by Professor Willow, Field Research tasks are distributed through PokeStops. You'll receive a random task when you spin the Photo Disc at a stop, and you can have up to three active tasks at a time. Each Field Research task you complete will unlock rewards, which can range from rare items to Pokemon encounters. The first task you complete each day will also net you a stamp. Each time you collect seven stamps, you'll achieve a Research Breakthrough, which will unlock even more rewards, including an encounter with a special Pokemon.Last month, the reward for achieving a Research Breakthrough would be an encounter with a Legendary Pokemon, but Niantic is offering a different reward for January 2020. Each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month, you'll get a chance to catch a Lapras that knows Ice Beam or Ice Shard. This marks the first time you could get the Pokemon with either move since 2018.As previously mentioned, the Field Research tasks you receive will be randomly taken from a larger pool. You can see the updated list of Pokemon Go's Field Research tasks as well as the possible rewards they dole out below, courtesy of The Silph Road. There's plenty more happening in Pokemon Go this month. Today is a memorable day in Xbox history. 19 years ago today on January 6, 2001, Microsoft formally unveiled the original Xbox during CES 2001. With that in mind, it's as good a time as ever to re-watch the delightfully cringe-y announcement from all those years ago.To reveal the OG Xbox, Microsoft recruited wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who at this time was not the bankable movie star that he is today. The announcement is a treat, as Microsoft founder Bill Gates repeatedly refers to him as "Rock" instead of "The Rock," while the wrestler truly showed his acting chops reading the teleprompter. Here's what The Rock had to say about the Xbox:"The Xbox is everything The Rock is. Cutting-edge, powerful, exhilarating, and like The Rock, it will be the most electrifying thing coming out this year. What The Rock is to sports entertainment to the WWF, the Xbox will be to the video game industry: a breakthrough and certainly an original. The Rock doesn't impress easily--you know that, Bill. But I'm pretty damn impressed with what we're seeing here today."The original Xbox, with its wimpy-by-today's-standards 32-bit 722 MHz processor, went on to release in November 2001. Thanks in part to launch title Halo: Combat Evolved, the Xbox was a success that created an entirely new business unit within Microsoft, which at the time did not have a gaming presence beyond the PC.The Xbox would be followed up by the Xbox 360 in 2005 and the Xbox One in 2013. The next iteration of the Xbox, the Xbox Series X, is set to launch in Holiday 2020. Alienware has shown off a new prototype during CES 2020, and it looks an awful lot like the Nintendo Switch. The Concept UFO--which, as the name suggests, is still a concept that the company is working with rather than a finalized product--is a portable system with a screen that can detach from the controllers on either side of it, much like the Joy-Cons slide off the Switch. We're always pushing what's possible in the realm of gaming. Introducing our newest gaming innovation, #ConceptUFO. Watch the official unveiling on Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. PST. #CES2020 https://t.co/lNV4TM1eXe pic.twitter.com/6TwCI9nfc1 — ALIENWARE (@Alienware) January 6, 2020CNET has gone hands-on with the Concept UFO, and said that, compared to many other prototypes shown at CES 2020, it "looks and feels finished, with a high degree of polish." The prototype consists of a small Windows 10 tablet with two attached controllers on either side, and like the Switch it can output to a bigger screen as well. There's no news of a release date, or even definite confirmation that Alienware will release this as a consumer product, according to CNET, but they report that World War Z was "surprisingly playable" on the Concept UFO.The Nintendo Switch, which serves as the clear inspiration for Concept UFO, is currently discounted on eBay. A new movie about singer-songwriter legend Bob Dylan is in the works, and it's now reportedly found its lead actor. Timothee Chalamet is in discussions to play Dylan in the upcoming film, according to Deadline. The movie is called "Going Electric," and it's being directed by Logan and Ford v. Ferrari director James Mangold.According to Deadline, Chalamet will play a young Dylan at the point in his life when he elected to pursue rock music ahead of folk. Dylan himself is said to be "actively" involved with Mangold and production company Fox Searchlight (which is owned by Disney) on the film.Deadline reports that Chalamet has begun taking guitar lessons to prepare for the role, though it's uncertain if he will sing as well.Dylan made waves at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival when he played electric guitar instead of acoustic. Some people got really upset, leading to a huge controversy, while others praised his new sound. It was certainly dramatic, so it's no surprise a movie is finally being made about it.The film will also reportedly feature portrayals of other '60s music icons like Joan Baez and Pete Seeger.Mangold has a history with biopics about legends of the music world. He also directed the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.Chalamet was recently seen in Greta Gerwig's new Little Women movie, and also starred in the Netflix movie The King. Later this year, Chalamet will appear in Denis Villeneuve's Dune, which features numerous other big-name stars. One of Chalamet's most memorable performances was in Call Me By Your Name, for which he earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as Elio.Going Electric won't be the first Bob Dylan movie, as 2007's I'm Not There featured an unusual setup where six different actors played Dylan, including Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, Ben Whishaw, and Marcus Carl Franklin. The Irishman director Martin Scorsese also made a documentary about Dylan's life called "No Direction Home." Info from Gamespot.com

Escape from Tarkov has been available in early access since 2016, but as of right now you can only get it directly from the game's official site. The survival shooter has exploded in popularity recently, having received a major update in October 2019 which introduced Hideouts as well as several new items and bug fixes, and briefly became the most viewed game on Twitch thanks, in part, to some prominent streamers getting into it. This has many players wondering if a Steam release is planned. It's been a while since Russian developer Battlestate Games has commented on this, but all signs suggest that Escape From Tarkov will come to Steam...eventually.The clearest evidence is from a 2016 interview with WCCFTech, in which developer Pavel Dyatlov says that the game will come to Steam once it reaches 1.0. "We will first release the game on our platform and then we will launch on Steam, that's the plan," Dyatlov said, also mentioning that the game could come to consoles after its PC release.Escape From Tarkov has remained in early access much longer than originally planned, however, and a year ago players on Reddit speculated that the game has not released on Steam because the developers would receive a lot of refund requests over the state the game was in. More recently, however, consensus among players has been that while the game is in better shape, the developers will still likely only release to Steam once the game is complete. The FAQ on the Escape from Tarkov page suggests that the game will receive a testing phase on Steam, but it has not been updated since 2015. With all of this in mind, we believe that the game will eventually release on Steam, when it's complete...but that might be a while away yet.Info from Gamespot.com

A few years ago, GameSpot spoke with Escape From Tarkov's project lead Nikita Buyanov about the then-unreleased shooter's ambitions, including its blend of action, survival, and role-playing, its high-risk looting system, and more. You can read the full interview from 2016 here. Now, with Escape From Tarkov a few years into its closed beta and recently enjoying a popularity spike on Twitch thanks to some popular streamers, we've decided to revisit a few major questions newcomers may have about the upcoming MMOFPS. Namely: will Escape From Tarkov have microtransactions?New players can rest easy. According to Buyanov, Escape From Tarkov will be "a traditional, full purchase," free of microtransactions and other free-to-play trappings. That means you pay once and you get the full content of the game. Escape From Tarkov News And Guides Will Escape From Tarkov Have Microtransactions? Is Escape From Tarkov Coming To Steam? There are currently a few editions of Escape From Tarkov available for pre-order on its official website. Its Standard Edition is $44.99 and comes with instant access to the closed beta, plus a few items to get you started. The more advanced, pricier editions come with more items and a bigger stash, which is where you store in-game loot after you've completed a raid. Some players have questioned whether Tarkov's pre-order model is "pay to win" based on the additional items and stash sizes that more expensive editions afford buyers, but others argue it makes no difference given Tarkov's high-stakes perma-loss system.Currently, you can only buy Escape From Tarkov on its official website and play it using developer Battlestate Games' client, the Battlestate Games Launcher--which has many new players and potential new players asking if Escape From Tarkov will have a Steam release.Info from Gamespot.com

An important figure has returned to Retro Studios, the developer behind the Metroid Prime series and both Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. VGC is reporting that Stephen Dupree, the lead designer of Tropical Freeze, has returned to Retro Studios after leaving for two years to work on Super Lucky's Tale at Playful Corp. Dupree, who also worked on DKC Returns and Mario Kart 7, could be working on Metroid Prime 4, the studio's only current confirmed game. The game was restarted in early 2019 and handed over to Retro Studios (it was previously being worked on by an unconfirmed developer.) About half the core team behind Metroid Prime 3 is still at Retro Studios. It's also possible that Dupree has returned to work on another project, though. Tropical Freeze sold well over a million copies on the Switch, and it's possible that Retro Studios will be put to work on a follow-up. The studio is currently hiring for multiple positions. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze received a 9/10 in our review of the Switch version. Reviewer Peter Brown called it "a fantastic platformer that's bursting with creativity and expertly designed challenges."Info from Gamespot.com
