Pokemon Go has introduced a new way to evolve some Pokemon. Just as in the mainline series, you can now evolve certain Pokemon by trading them to a friend. However, this works a little differently than it does in a traditional Pokemon game, so we've put together this explainer detailing how to evolve Pokemon through trading in Go.How To Evolve Pokemon By TradingIn mainline Pokemon games, a handful of monsters can only be evolved by trading them to another player, but in Pokemon Go, these creatures could be evolved the same way as most other Pokemon: by feeding them a set amount of Candy. Now, however, there's an alternate method of evolving them: if you receive an eligible Pokemon through a trade, its Candy requirement will be completely removed, essentially allowing you to evolve it for free. While this new evolution method has only been recently added to Pokemon Go, it retroactively applies to past traded Pokemon. That means if you've previously received one of the eligible Pokemon through a trade, its Candy requirement to evolve will also be removed.Which Pokemon Evolve By Trading? The new trade evolution method applies to the same Pokemon that evolve by trading in the mainline games:Kadabra -> AlakazamMachoke -> MachampGraveler -> GolemAlolan Graveler -> Alolan GolemHaunter -> GengarBoldore -> GigalithGurdurr -> ConkeldurrKarrablast -> EscavalierShelmet -> AccelgorIn the main series, a handful of other Pokemon--such as Scyther and Onix--also evolve by trading if they're holding certain items, but their evolution method in Pokemon Go has not been changed, so you cannot trade for a Scyther and then evolve it into Scizor without spending any Candy; only the Pokemon listed above will have their Candy requirement removed if obtained through a trade.Boldore, Gurdurr, Karrablast, and Shelmet are among the newest Gen 5 Pokemon to arrive in the game. However, a handful of other Gen 5 Pokemon can only evolve using a new item called the Unova Stone. You can read more about how to obtain one of those and which Pokemon it works on in our Unova Stone guide. Sony will once again be skipping E3. Despite the PS5's imminent launch this holiday season, the company has told GamesIndustry.biz that it will not have a presence at E3 2020."After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020," Sony said. "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year."In lieu of attending E3, Sony says it will be "participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe" this year to promote PS4 and PS5 games. "Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans," the company said. The ESA, which organizes E3, has released a statement stating that it expects this year's show to be as exciting as previous years. "E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands, and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting, high-energy show featuring new experiences, partners, exhibitor spaces, activations, and programming that will entertain new and veteran attendees alike. Exhibitor interest in our new activations is gaining the attention of brands that view E3 as a key opportunity to connect with video game fans worldwide."This marks the second year in a row that Sony has opted out of the annual gaming expo. Last year, Sony said it would not be attending E3 because it was looking for other "inventive opportunities" to connect with its own community."PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019," a PlayStation representative said at the time.E3 isn't the only big gaming event that Sony has pulled away from in recent years; the company also hasn't hosted its annual PlayStation Experience convention since 2017.While E3 has traditionally been a major venue for video game and console reveals, this wouldn't be the first time Sony has unveiled a system outside of the expo. Back in 2013, Sony officially pulled back the curtain on the PS4 during a special "PlayStation Meeting" media event instead of at E3. It's possible the company will host another such event to divulge more details about the PS5 sometime this year.Sony revealed the first tidbits about the PS5 last May, and since then the company has been gradually drip-feeding more information about the next-generation console. Most recently, Sony unveiled the system's completely unsurprising logo during its CES 2020 briefing. SIE president Jim Ryan concluded the segment by promising that further specifics about the PS5, including the game lineup and other features, will be announced at a later date.Sony has not yet announced a release date for the PS5, but it is slated to launch sometime in holiday 2020, around the time that Microsoft's rival Xbox Series X console will hit the market. The holiday season is historically the most important sales period of the year for retailers, but unfortunately for GameStop, things did not go so well. The Grapevine, Texas-based retailer announced its holiday earnings today, and they dropped significantly. For the nine-week period ended January 4, 2020, GameStop generated revenue of $1.83 billion, which is down 27.5 percent compared to the same period last year. Store sales fell 24.7 percent, which is a dramatic result given sales increased 1.5 percent during the holiday period last year.GameStop said the downturn in sales this holiday was due in part to the "overall trends impacting the video game industry," adding that the drop-off was also impacted by the "accelerated decline" in new console and game sales, "particularly in the month of December."PlayStation 4 and Xbox One console sales have been dropping for months now at GameStop and other retailers, with the more recently released Nintendo Switch the only major home console experiencing growth in 2019. It's expected that PS4 and Xbox One sales have fallen recently, as the systems are at the tail end of their lifecycles, having been in the market since 2013. Additionally, people may be holding off on buying a new PlayStation or Xbox right now because next-generation consoles from each company are due out this Holiday."We continued to see growth in the Nintendo Switch platform, which supports our view that our sales will strengthen as new consoles and innovative technology are introduced," management said. As for game sales declining, GameStop--which trades mainly in physical media--is likely suffering at the hands of increasing digital game sales. Multiple major publishers have announced that the percentage of new games sold digitally are increasing, at times to record highs. For example, Borderlands 3 sold 70 percent of its launch copies digitally, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also set digital sales records.GameStop CEO George Sherman said the retailer anticipated a "challenging sales environment" for this holiday season. "Our customers continue to delay purchases ahead of anticipated console launches in late 2020," he said.Due to the poor sales results, GameStop is downgrading its fiscal 2019 earnings guidance. The company believes it has the "right long-term action plans in place" to help improve profitability for the company year, though no specific strategies were announced. One way GameStop is cutting costs is by closing stores. As part of GameStop's ambitious "GameStop Reboot" initiative, the company is closing 180-200 "underperforming" stores by February 2020, with more store closures to potentially come later.Around 55 stores are already confirmed to be closing in the United States, while more than two-dozen EB Games locations are closing or have already shut in Australia. (GameStop owns EB Games). GameStop also cut staff from its Game Informer magazine recently.GameStop announced its holiday sales report and confirmed the downgraded projections at the end of the day on Monday, so it will be interesting to see how anaylysts and investors respond when the stock market opens on Tuesday. GameStop is currently trading at around $5.43 per share, which is close to an all-time low for the company. Info from Gamespot.com

The nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards have been announced, and the one of the numerous snubs was Adam Sandler. Critics and viewers praised his performance in the Safdie brothers crime thriller Uncut Gems, but the actor did not receive an acting nomination.Sandler has now responded to the news. In a cheeky tweet, Sandler said there is a bright side: he doesn't have to put on a suit. The actor is known for his dressed-down look, often wearing baggy clothes and tracksuits with basketball shoes when he's walking around town.Sandler also used his reaction tweet to congratulate his friends who did receive nominations, especially Kathy Bates, who played his mother in The Waterboy. Bates received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for the Clint Eastwood movie Richard Jewell.Bates--speaking in her character Mama's tone and style--responded to Sandler's tweet by saying Sander was "robbed" for not receiving a nomination for Uncut Gems.Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy.Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits. Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, has announced that it is working on a new tabletop game. The game, Tellstones: King's Gambit, is based on a game played across Runeterra, the setting of their upcoming Legends of Runeterra. Tellstones: King's Gambit is a "bluffing game" (a game that involves lying or deception) for two or four players. The rules of the game, and the pieces that are being designed for it, have not been disclosed, although the announcement suggests that it'll be "much smaller and play faster" than their first and so far only tabletop game, Mechs vs. Minions.Riot Games' previous tabletop game was released in 2016. Riot Games has several other tabletop games in production right now, but the others remain unannounced. We're not sure when Tellstones: King's Gambit is due to release, either. The company is also deep into development on League of Legends: Wild Rift, as well as a bunch of other projects, including a shooter and a fighting game. A single-player League of Legends game, Ruined King, was also announced during the 2019 Game Awards.Info from Gamespot.com

Fallout 76 is due to release its substantial Wastelanders expansion, which adds NPCs and more quests, in early 2020. The beleaguered multiplayer game will likely look a bit more like Fallout 4 after this update; if you're a PC player who wants to get an early look and see if Wastelanders is going to improve the experience, you can register your interest to check it out early. You can now register for the Fallout 76 Wastlanders Public Test Server, if you own the game on PC. Some folks will be invited into the PTS to test the update, but only if they register interest by 6pm ET on January 14. It's not clear when the PTS will go live, or how long it'll be available for. Participants will be required to fill out an NDA, so they won't be able to discuss or share their experiences outside of feedback they provide to Bethesda. This means that we likely won't see major impressions of the DLC before it launches.Bethesda courted controversy in 2019 with Fallout 76's Fallout 1st Subscription Service, which charges $100 a year for private server access within the game. Many Fallout fans are anticipating this DLC after the game's disappointing launch--we gave the game a 4/10 in our review, and reviewer Edmond Tran said that "the lack of NPCs makes it difficult to become genuinely invested in the world."Info from Gamespot.com

Sony has announced that it will not be attending E3 2020, skipping the show for a second year in a row. With the PlayStation 5 on the horizon, Sony has opted not to use E3 to unveil their machine or show off any of the system's upcoming games. Now the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which organizes and runs E3 each year, has released a brief statement promising that the show will remain exciting and important, despite the absence of Sony and PlayStation. The message is clear: expect an E3 similar to what you've seen in previous years, despite Sony's absence. Here's the statement in full:"E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting, high-energy show featuring new experiences, partners, exhibitor spaces, activations, and programming that will entertain new and veteran attendees alike. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen was one of our best comics of 2019 honorees--and for good reason. It's the perfect blend of hilarious, over-the-top slapstick humor and slice-of-life commentary that makes DC's favorite Daily Planet photographer so lovable (and at times, uncomfortably relatable). 2019 may be over and done with, but that doesn't mean Jimmy's story is over. In fact, issue 7 is just around the corner. In this issue, we dig into the many layers and incarnations of Jimmy's bizarre publication history and start to peel them back to see if there's a "real" Jimmy Olsen at the center of it all. Unsurprisingly for someone like him, the answer to that question might be a little more complicated than you'd think.Take a look at the first pages of the issue below. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #7 courtesy of DC ComicsSome Jimmy Olsen fun facts for added context: those weird, wonderful, sort-of-kind-of grotesque versions of him appearing on the couch? They're all real. Over the years, and especially in the Silver Age (a period of comics encompassing roughly the early '50s to the mid '60s), Jimmy Olsen stories were catalysts for some of the most bonkers DC stories around. His solo title even provided the launching point for the soon-to-be-live-action Jack Kirby masterpiece, the Fourth World, which gave the DCU its very own cosmic mythology. All that from a kid who got his start snapping photos and goofing off with Clark Kent--not bad, right? He's been mutated, empowered, experimented on, remade, and then some, all in the name of being a supporting character to his A-lister friends.Of course, that history obviously leaves its mark in some pretty interesting (and occasionally unwelcome) ways, as we can see here.Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #7 hits shelves this Wednesday, January 1 Info from Gamespot.com

Nintendo has debuted a new music video from Charli XCX to show off Super Nintendo World, the upcoming theme park at Universal Studios Japan. The song, below, mixes in elements from the Super Mario soundtrack and shows attendees enjoying (and parkouring around) a CGI mock-up of the park's attractions. The park is due to open during Japanese summer (from roughly June to September) 2020. It will open with two rides, but should grow from there, as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has.The video shows no actual footage of the still-under-construction park, but captures the Nintendo spirit and aesthetic.Bloomberg reporter Kurumi Mori tweeted details from a Universal Studios Japan presentation about Super Nintendo World, which showed off the park's "live video game" aspirations. Who would have thought that, in a year with game releases from Nintendo, From Software, Remedy Entertainment, Capcom, Respawn, and numerous other well-known studios, a CRPG from a small, unknown team would become one of the most talked-about titles of 2019?Disco Elysium is a game that commands attention. Whether it's the striking watercolor acid trip aesthetic, the moody and melancholic music, dense lore, or satisfyingly verbose writing, there's a lot to get caught up in. At the same time, Disco Elysium is remarkably ambitious, offering players an incredible amount of freedom to define their character and role-play.It's easy to forget that this is Studio ZA/UM's first game, especially when you encounter something like the Thought Cabinet--the subject of this episode of Audio Logs. At its simplest, the Thought Cabinet gives the player insight into the mind of Disco Elysium's main character, but--as with real people--the mind is a complicated, messy, and often chaotic place. Needless to say, realizing it on-screen and as a core part of how the player progresses through the game and develops their character proved to be a challenge.Disco Elysium designer and writer Robert Kurvitz breaks down the creation of the Thought Cabinet in this episode, describing it as a "quagmire" feature that almost sunk the entire project.Kurvitz also discusses some of the other design decisions Studio ZU/AM made to modernize the CRPG genre. Among these is the way text is displayed on-screen, which--as genre enthusiasts will know--hasn't changed all that much since the early days of CRPGs. However, Disco Elysium's devs decided to mix things up and it found inspiration in Twitter, of all things.Beyond the design of the game itself, this episode is a look into Kurvitz himself, who has been building the world and lore of Disco Elysium for years. He has some fascinating insights into player behavior and the tendencies of modern-day video game players. He also talks about some of the ideas he'd like to explore in future projects, offering a tantalizing tease of what we could see next from 2019's breakout studio. Needless to say, this is a must-watch episode of Audio Logs, whether you've played Disco Elysium or not. This is the third episode in Audio Logs Season 2 and, if you haven't already, make sure to watch the first two. The season began with legendary developers Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa breaking down a pivotal scene from Death Stranding. Episode 2, meanwhile, is a deep dive into Control's Ashtray Maze. Game director Mikael Kasurinen shows exactly how Remedy executed the memorable sequence from one of 2019's best games. Both of these episodes are available on YouTube. Be sure to subscribe to GameSpot on YouTube to see more episodes as they’re released every Sunday. If you haven't already checked out Disco Elysium, you should. In our Disco Elysium review the game was awarded a rare 10/10. Critic David Wildgoose said it is "a mad, sprawling detective story where the real case you've got to crack isn't who killed the man strung up on a tree in the middle of town--though that in itself, replete with dozens of unexpected yet intertwined mysteries and wild excursions into the ridiculous, is engrossing enough to sustain the game. Rather, it’s an investigation of ideas, of the way we think, of power and privilege, and of how all of us are shaped, with varying degrees of autonomy, by the society we find ourselves in." The Uncharted movie has been a long time coming. First announced in 2008, the film has gone through a half-dozen different directors over the years, and all six of the previously announced directors have quit or left the project for a variety of reasons. Now, it appears film studio Sony is closing in on the seventh director for the Uncharted movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is eyeing Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer to direct the Uncharted movie. The site says Fleischer is Sony's top choice, though no deal has been made yet. In fact, negotiations have not even begun, the site said.Variety also confirmed the news about Fleischer, saying "the job is his if he wants it."Sony has officially scheduled Uncharted for release on December 18, 2020. However, it's expected that the movie will be delayed.Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is set to star as a young Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, which is said to be a prequel to the games. Mark Wahlberg is reportedly set to play Sully. As mentioned, Fleischer would become the Uncharted movie's seventh director. The previous six were David O.
