The current season of Apex Legends, Season 3: Meltdown, is coming to an end on February 4. So when does Season 4 start? Short answer: We don't know for sure, as Respawn hasn't officially announced a date. Our guess, which requires us to explain our reasoning, is February 4.Respawn's original Apex Legend post-launch plan had Season 4 starting in December 2019. We know that's no longer true, as the developer, instead, extended Meltdown into the longest season that Apex Legends has ever had. Season 1: Battle Frontier (March 19 through June 18) and Season 2: Battle Charge (July 2 through October 1) were both 13 weeks. Meltdown will be 18 weeks long when all is said and done, pushing Season 4's start out of late December/early January and into February.Though there was a huge gap between the launch of Apex Legends and the start of Battle Frontier, as well as a minor gap between Battle Frontier and Battle Charge, Meltdown started the day that Battle Charge ended. It stands to reason that the gaps have been getting shorter, closing in on the near-instant turnaround seen between Season 2 and 3. Following that logic, Season 4 would begin February 4, the same day that Season 3 ends. Why would Respawn pick February 4 for a Season 4 start date? February 4 marks the one-year anniversary of both the surprise reveal and launch of Apex Legends. What better time is there to start a new season than the day that the battle royale goes into Year 2? Regardless of when Season 4 starts, Season 3 is quickly coming to an end. If you still have battle pass levels to earn, it's time to start grinding weekly challenges. For now, we know next to nothing about Season 4. Respawn hasn't announced its start date, name, new weapon, new playable legend, or battle pass awards. There hasn't been any indication of what map(s) we'll be playing on either, or whether a permanent game mode will be added alongside Casual, Ranked, Firing Range, and Training. Pretty much the only thing we know about Season 4 is that it's on its way.Apex Legends is currently in the midst of its latest limited-time event, Grand Soirée Arcade. Adding seven new game modes and several new legendary character skins, Grand Soirée Arcade will continue until January 28. Grand Soirée Arcade launched alongside an update that implemented several bug fixes, legend nerfs/buffs, and gameplay changes--one of which may hint that another Titanfall 2 gun is on its way into Apex Legends during Season 4. Pokemon Go's first Community Day of the new year is just around the corner. The monthly event returns on Sunday, January 19, and will give players a chance to catch another rare Pokemon, learn a special event-exclusive move, and take advantage of other in-game bonuses. Most Pokemon Go Community Days only run for three hours, but the specifics of each event--such as what the featured Pokemon is and what other bonuses are available--vary month by month. To help you prepare for this month's event, we've rounded up everything you need to know about January's Community Day below. What Is January's Featured Pokemon? Each Community Day stars one "featured" Pokemon, which will appear much more frequently in the wild throughout the event. This month, the featured Pokemon is Piplup, the Water-type starter from Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Throughout January's Community Day, you'll be more likely to encounter Piplup in the wild and in Raids, and you may even hatch it from eggs that you receive at PokeStops during the event. On top of that, this month's Community Day will give you your first chance to encounter a Shiny Piplup in Pokemon Go. Shiny Pokemon rarely appear in the game, but the increased Piplup spawns available during the event should make it more likely that you run into a few Shiny ones. What Is January's Community Day Move?Another benefit of each Community Day is that it gives you a chance to get a Pokemon with a move that it can't otherwise learn in Pokemon Go, and that holds true this month as well. If you can evolve Piplup's evolved form, Prinplup, into Empoleon up to two hours after the event ends, the Pokemon will know a special event-exclusive move.Niantic hasn't announced what this month's Community Day move is yet. However, other Water-type starters that have been featured in previous Community Days were all able to learn the Charged Water attack Hydro Cannon, so that will presumably be this month's move as well. That remains unconfirmed for now, but we'll know for sure closer to the Community Day. For players in the Northern Hemisphere, the event will run from 11 AM-2 PM local time; in the Southern Hemisphere, the Community Day takes place from 3-6 PM local time. What Other Bonuses Are Available? On top of increased Piplup spawns, Niantic is offering a few other in-game bonuses during January's Community Day. As usual, any Lure Modules you use during the event will remain active for three hours, rather than the usual 30 minutes. Additionally, any eggs you place into incubators will hatch at a quarter of the distance they normally require during the Community Day.Info from Gamespot.com

The DC movie Joker is headed back to theatres following its 11 Oscar nominations. Warner Bros. announced that Joker will return to more than 750 theatres across North America beginning on Friday, January 17.The 11 Oscar nominations that Joker scored is more than any other movie this year. While the Oscars are still to come, Joker already won two awards at the Golden Globes, where Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir won for Best Original Score."With the continued interest in Joker as a result of its recognition during this exciting awards season, we wanted to give audiences the chance to see the film on the big screen, whether for the first time or again," Warner Bros. executive Jeff Goldstein said in a statement. It seems Joker is only returning to theatres in North America, and not other parts of the world.Joker made more than $1 billion globally during its initial theatrical run, which is a tremendous result given it was made on a relatively modest $55 million budget (before marketing). Given the huge success, it's no surprise that there have been discussions of a sequel.Joker is the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history, surpassing Deadpool 2 ($785 million) to set the record. Joker is also the 32nd highest-grossing movie in cinema history. Joker's 11 Oscar nominations include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Film Editing, Cinematography, and Makeup and Hairstyling. The 92nd Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 9.Info from Gamespot.com

It looks like BioShock: The Collection--which brings together BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite--might be coming to the Switch. Lootpots discovered that the game has been rated by the Taiwanese games rating board. Appearing on a ratings board is usually a good indicator that a game is on its way.BioShock: The Collection, which released for PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, remastered the three games and was divided between two Blu-Ray discs. Since a Switch release has not been formally announced, there's no indication of whether the Switch release will be closer to the original Xbox 360/PS3 versions of these games. The individual games within the Collection has also been rated, which could potentially mean that they'll be released separately as well. BioShock 2 and Infinite came with all of their previously-released DLC when they were made available on PS4 and Xbox One.The original BioShock has gone portable before, with an iOS version releasing in 2015 (and eventually disappearing from the App Store), and a Vita spin-off tactics game being planned and cancelled. This version, if it eventuates, will be the first time BioShock has appeared on a Nintendo console. There's also a new BioShock game in development right now at the newly created studio Cloud Chamber. It's still early in development, though, and not much is known about it yet.Info from Gamespot.com

(This article contains mild spoilers about the finale of The Mandalorian's first season.)The breakout star of The Mandalorian has undoubtedly been The Child, better known as Baby Yoda, a Force-powered infant who closely resembles the original and prequel trilogy's sage Jedi master. The baby, who star Werner Herzog summed up as "heartbreakingly beautiful," is a very sophisticated puppet--one that apparently cost a lot of money to manufacture and operate.Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Adam Pally (who plays one of the two Stormtroopers watching over the baby at the opening of episode 8) shared an anecdote about the puppet's cost. During the scene, Pally's character hits the Baby Yoda, and on the first take he hit it fairly hard. The director (Taika Waititi) yelled "cut," and Pally was visited by showrunner Jon Favreau to discuss the shot.Pally recalls Favreau telling him that the puppet costs "like, $5 million," saying "so while I want you to hit it, I just want you to know that." This made Pally so nervous that he missed on the next three takes.Pally joked that Baby Yoda was "a bit of a diva" on the set, and that he's "constantly vaping."The Mandalorian will return for season 2 in fall 2020, and characters from the Skywalker series might appear. It's been a while since we've heard any updates about the John Wick spin-off TV series being developed by Starz. However, The Continental is still happening. At the TCA winter press tour, Starz president and CEO Jeffrey A. Hirsch provided an update on the project.Hirsch said: "I came from the meeting season-pitch on that yesterday and it's moving along. We like that with the group of writers and we're just trying to get it to the right place so that it doesn't interfere with the motion picture side of the house. But we're excited about the progress that the team is making."He continued, explaining that The Continental likely won't air until after the upcoming John Wick Chapter 4, which isn't set for release until May 21, 2021.First reported all the way back in 2017, The Continental will focus on the infamous hotel for assassins featured in the first three chapters of the John Wick franchise. It will "maintain the urgency of the action along with the dry humor of the movies" and include the franchise's star, Keanu Reeves, as a producer. We know it will be a prequel to the film series, and that a cameo from Reeves himself isn't necessarily off the table--but given how long the wait is shaping up to be, it's probably best not to start counting any gun-toting, martial artist chickens before they hatch. For more coverage from the TCA winter press tour, take a look about news on Syfy's Peter Pan and Child's Play shows, as well as more info about Amazon's Wheel of Time series. Additionally, the executive producer Picard cleared up confusion about the timeline for Star Trek, and we learned a little more about Patrick Stewart's costar in the upcoming series.Info from Gamespot.com

Path of Exile developers Grinding Gear recently announced a sequel, Path of Exile 2, but that does not seem to have slowed down work on the original at all.Grinding Gears has announced their 2020 roadmap for Path of Exile, and it's a busy one. The plan is to keep up the usual quarter schedule for expansions throughout the year, releasing four expansions--versions 3.10.0 through to 3.13.0--throughout the year. 3.10.0 will "probably be announced in late February," the roadmap states."The timing of the expansions may vary by a week or two from last year's ones, as we work around various holidays/events and make sure that the bigger ones have enough time to be fully tested," they state. The team is also working on 4.0.0, and the team is expecting to be able to show "significantly new content" around the middle of the year, potentially by E3. A public beta could run in late 2020. The console team is being expanded as well so that console updates can be pushed faster, and work on Path of Exile Mobile is continuing, based on feedback received at ExileCon 2019.Path of Exile 2 will include the original game's campaign when it releases, which might be why the developers continue to expand it. The sequel might come to PS5 and Xbox Series X as well as PC. For more, check out our interview with Grinding Gear founder Chris Wilson. Info from Gamespot.com

Video game retailer GameStop is struggling. The company's latest financial report showed double-digit decreases in revenue for the holiday period, and the downturn was attributed in part to the current console cycle coming to an end.GameStop management is optimistic that things will turn around in the coming year when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are released, or sooner. Speaking at the 2020 ICR Conference in Orlando, Florida, GameStop CEO George Sherman spoke about how the next-gen consoles' disc drives and support backwards compatibility should benefit GameStop."If you think about the attributes of the new consoles that we were waiting on with baited breath, one was would it have a disc drive going forward and it does. The second part is backwards compatibilty. The ability for all the games from previous generations to work on the new console is there," Sherman said.Hardware and software sales at GameStop have fallen, and one line of thinking is that customers are holding back buying games and consoles because new ones are coming. Given the PS5 and Xbox Series X will support existing PS4 and Xbox One games with backwards compatibility, Sherman said he's hopeful people will realize this and start spending more with GameStop."I think there is still a little bit of an education process going on with the customer right now about what backwards compatibility means. Our gaming zealots understand that well; they know exactly what that means, but we think there is going to be a resurgence with the new consoles now that the word's out that your games are gonna work," he said. "It's not throwaway money. It's going to be something you can use on your new device."The PS5 and Xbox Series X have been announced, but both Sony and Microsoft have yet to formally detail each console's features, so it makes sense that it might not be widely known to the mainstream audience that the systems will play existing games.SIE president Jim Ryan told GameSpot sister site CNET backwards compatibility and cross-gen are important for the PS5 to help players have a seamless transition. Currently, it is only confirmed that the PS5 will play PS4 games; there is no confirmation yet regarding titles from earlier systems. "Whether it's backwards compatibility or the possibility of cross-generational play, we'll be able to transition that community to next-gen," he said. "It won't be a binary choice about whether you have to be either on PlayStation 4 or next-gen to continue your friendship."As for Microsoft, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said Xbox Series X will support backwards compatibility on day one. The console will not only play Xbox One games, but also Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. Microsoft has also committed to not releasing any Xbox Series X exclusive games for the first year (or two) of the console. Going back to the GameStop interview, Sherman said the company expects sales to continue to slide for the foreseeable future, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X launches could help things turn around. GameStop is also cutting costs to improve profitability by closing stores and laying off employees. "We know [the PS5 and Xbox Series X] are great devices. We know they are technological step-changes," he said. "This is an evolution that is going to bring far, far more capability and excitement to gaming, and we firmly believe the thesis for us holds. We recognize the tough sales we announced yesterday. We recognize the tough sales ahead of us. But we also recognize that we are doing a lot of work around the hygiene of the business. Our expense structure. Our store footprint. So that we can really parlay the opportunity coming our way at the end of the year."GameStop CFO Jim Bell also chimed in on the matter, saying the PS5 and Xbox Series X having disc drives will help sustain GameStop's second-hand business which relies on physical media.A turnaround would be welcome for GameStop, as the company is currently trading at around $4.73 per share, which is close to an all-time low for the retailer.Info from Gamespot.com

Borderlands 3 added a limited-time special event, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, towards the end of 2019, but part of the event was delayed. In late December, Gearbox announced that a new version of the event that would scale depending on how many players you had in your party would release, making it easier for players who preferred to play alone to tackle it. This ended up being delayed, but a date for the scaled version of the event has now been set.In a new post on the Borderlands website, it's been announced that the scaled version of Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite will be available from January 16 to January 30. It'll be slightly easier now for players who are taking it on alone, meaning that if you can't quite crack it right now, it's worth trying during this period. After January 30, the event will revert to its standard difficulty level, and will once again be tuned for four experienced vault hunters working together--which means that you'll need to be extremely skilled to beat it alone.Borderlands 3 also received its first piece of major DLC in late December, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. The game received an 8/10 in our review, and Jordan Ramée wrote that the game "best excels at continuing what the series has always done: deliver a humorous tall tale of misfits looting and shooting their way to heroism."Info from Gamespot.com

Minecraft has been a fertile playground for ambitious projects, but one recently unveiled mod is particularly magical. The Floo Network modders revealed a trailer for their "Minecraft School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," a massive recreation of Harry Potter landmarks and locales, with activities to match. The gameplay trailer shows familiar locations like Hogwarts Castle, complete with the Great Hall and twisting staircases, Hagrid's hut, the Quidditch pitch, and Diagon Alley. It even recreates parts of London, including the train station that takes you to Platform 9 3/4. The visuals seem largely based on the settings as presented in the series of films. But you can actually do more than simply explore the castle grounds. You can also scavenge for magical loot and solve mysteries in the castle, and fight against Death Eaters with wand projectiles. The team is aiming to release the map by the end of January. The mod gives another layer of adventuring to the core Minecraft game, which has retained its popularity since its official release in 2011. Meanwhile, Mojang is planning a new type of co-op Minecraft adventure with Minecraft Dungeons, which is releasing this April.Info from Gamespot.com
