The latest hotfix for Borderlands 3 goes live today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The update is due to arrive by 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 PM GMT, and all you have to do to apply it is wait at the main menu until you see a sign than says "Hotfixes Applied."Like most hotfixes, the latest addresses a couple of small concerns including those reported by the community and some perceived progression blockers. The Incendiary Badass and Super Badass Varkid has received an updated texture, and chest rewards at the end of Proving Grounds have been adjusted to be more rewarding for all tiers of completion. The latter is due to more players running the Proving Grounds for dedicated loot drops from bosses. Gearbox has boosted the rewards to reflect the effort players spend to complete the objectives, with completion of all objectives providing the best legendary drop rate. The hotfix also sees the bonus radiation damage while Gamma Burst is active increase from 65% to 115%, while also addressing a number of perceived progression blockers that could occur in specific situations.Borderlands 3 January 23 Hotfix Patch NotesUpdated a texture for the Incendiary Badass and Super Badass VarkidAdjusted the chest rewards at the end of the Proving Grounds to be more rewarding at all tiers of completionWith more players running the Proving Grounds for dedicated loot drops from the bosses, we noticed the chests not rewarding players as much as we intended. While Netflix continues to be the dominant force in streaming services, it was recently revealed how it calculates its views, which was a bit controversial. If a user watches at least two minutes of a movie, TV show, or original series, it counts as a view. The company has revealed exactly why they decided on that as their viewing metric. In a letter to shareholders released on January 21, Netflix explained why this change was made. "We've been working on how to best share content highlights that demonstrate popularity," stated the letter. "Given that we now have titles with widely varying lengths--from short episodes (e.g. Special at around 15 minutes) to long films (e.g. The Highwaymen at 132 minutes), we believe that reporting households viewing a title based on 70% of a single episode of a series or of an entire film, which we have been doing, makes less sense. We are now reporting on households (accounts) that chose to watch a given title (Chose to watch and did watch for at least 2 minutes--long enough to indicate the choice was intentional--is the precise definition)."Finding something to watch on the streaming service can take up a user's time--something the satirical website The Onion pointed out in 2014--so the "two minutes of watch time" to calculate what does and doesn't count as a view does makes sense from that perspective. How many times have you spent way too long just finding something to watch on the service? It happens to everyone, so when you do click, it's intentional."Our new methodology is similar to the BBC iPlayer in their 1 rankings based on 'requests' for the title, 'most popular' articles on the New York Times which include those who opened the articles, and YouTube view counts," reads the letter. "This way, short and long titles are treated equally, leveling the playing field for all types of our content including interactive content, which has no fixed length."However, comparing Netflix--a premium subscription service--to YouTube--an ad-supported service--doesn't work as well here, as many monetized channels have ads up front, as well as numerous times within the video, depending on the length. Yes, clicking "play" on a video automatically counts as a single view, but YouTube and Netflix operate very differently from each other, as far as streaming services go. And with the New York Times, the two have a very similar subscription-based model but produce two entirely different pieces of media. When it comes to this new way to calculate views, it's all about producing bigger numbers, and that's already become clear, which was established in the letter. "The new metric is about 35% higher on average than the prior metric." Of course, your numbers will be higher when the means of calculating them become much more laxed. Some people may find this a bit misleading, as this doesn't reveal how many users actually watched a full episode of a TV show or a movie. It could be seen as a way to boost numbers for investors, but all-in-all, it doesn't affect daily users of the service. It may have long-term affects on content creators for Netflix though, as there is no transparency to the public for how long people are watching these hit shows and movies. The popular loot-shooter Destiny 2 went free-to-play last year, but if you wanted to enjoy the Forsaken and Shadowkeep expansions, you'd have to buy them separately. This past December, developer Bungie released an Upgrade edition, which bundled both expansions for a single price--and now it's discounted as part of Steam's Lunar New Year sale.Destiny 2 on PC dealsUpgrade edition -- $37.49 ($50)Forsaken expansion -- $16.74 ($25)Shadowkeep expansion -- $23.44 ($35)In addition to the Upgrade edition, Destiny 2's expansions are also on sale separately, so if you own one, you can now own the other at a discounted price. The Shadowkeep expansion is currently $23.44 USD, down from its regular price of $35, while Forsaken can be snagged for $16.74.The Upgrade edition is also available on PS4 and Xbox One for $50. Unfortunately, it is currently not discounted on those platforms.Destiny 2 migrated to Steam and went free-to-play with the launch of Shadowkeep. In GameSpot's Destiny 2: Shadowkeep review, critic Phil Hornshaw praised the expansion, scoring it an 8/10."Shadowkeep represents a shift in the fundamentals of Destiny 2, and that has only improved the game," he wrote. "Returning to the moon is full of spooky fun, and while Shadowkeep might not be as huge as Forsaken, it still provides some impressive additions to the world that will take time to fully explore. More meaningful choices in Shadowkeep are pushing me to think beyond just packing my most powerful guns and shooting everything in my path. These are improvements that represent a giant leap forward for Destiny 2." The title of Apex Legends Season 4 has been revealed: Assimilation. Respawn has also provided the first official look at the new playable character coming in Season 4. It's not, as was previously speculated, Revenant, but another character entirely: Forge.Respawn didn't provide many details about the new character but did provide a screenshot, which is embedded below. The developer also discussed some of the lore surrounding Forge, who's being added to the Apex Games as the first corporate-sponsored Legend."This guy, he's the exact opposite of Crypto--who was our last Legend," Apex Legends game writer Tom Casiello said in the Season 4 Reveal Devstream. "This guy, he's a brawler, he gets up close and personal with you, he's got a mean left hook, he's a five-time Hyperfighting Federation Champion. Big personality." Casiello also teased that Forge holds a connection to the Titanfall games as well. "[Forge has] conquered one world--the MMA world--and now he wants to conquer another one with the Apex Games. He's also the first Legend we're introducing who's a corporate sponsor. His sponsor is Hammond Robotics."For those who haven't played the Titanfall games (you should), Hammond Robotics is one of the primary companies within the IMC--the main antagonist of the Titanfall series. Hammond is responsible for creating most of the enemies you fight in Titanfal 2's campaign, the IMC Spectres, Marvins, and Titans. Apex Legends takes place decades after the IMC has left The Outlands--only for the mysterious Syndicate to take its place and gain favor with the public by founding the Apex Games. Respawn has revealed the first official details for Apex Legends Season 4: Assimilation, including new character Forge, new weapon the Sentinel, and new World's Edge map changes. You won't just be playing on Apex Legends' second map during Season 4 though, Kings Canyon will return. That said, the map isn't coming back as we expected. During Assimilation, Apex Legends Ranked Mode is being reworked so that it's now split into two separate series. The first series will begin with the new season and continue through to March 23. The second series picks up on March 24 and continues until the end of Season 4, May 5.Like in Season 3: Meltdown, you'll see your rank knocked down two notches at the start of Assimilation, and your ranking will similarly reset halfway through the season when the second series begins--allowing you to earn two different rankings. Your end-of-season rewards will be based on whichever series you rank higher in. So if you reach Diamond IV in series one but only Platinum I in series two, for example, you'll be awarded Diamond-tier items at the end of Assimilation. So how does this relate to Kings Canyon? Well, the first series of Assimilation will take place on World's Edge, while the second will see you play on Kings Canyon. So Kings Canyon is coming back to Apex Legends in Season 4, just not until March 24.Kings Canyon was the only map in Apex Legends during Season 1: Wild Frontier and Season 2: Battle Charge, only to be completely replaced by World's Edge at the start of Meltdown. The map has made reappearances in certain limited-time events during Season 3--specifically, Fight or Fright and Grand Soirée Arcade--though its return in Assimilation will be the first time the map has been in the game for longer than a few weeks since its removal. When the map was removed, Respawn explained that Kings Canyon was taken out because the developer was worried that most players would gravitate to the original map without trying the new one if both were available at the same time. It won't be long before a new Ghostbusters movie arrives in theaters. And unlike 2016's reboot, the new entry--Ghostbusters: Afterlife--is connected to the original franchise. While it hasn't explicitly been revealed exactly how it will embrace the first two films, we've learned some new details from original cast member Bill Murray.Speaking to Vanity Fair, Murray not only confirmed he will reprise his role as Peter Venkman in the film--alongside his fellow surviving Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson--but gave some details about the movie's story. "Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal," he explained. "And that's the story that we’re telling, that's the story they've written."That man down is obviously Harold Ramis, who portrayed Egon Spengler in the first two films. Ramis passed away in 2014, leaving the Ghostbusters without its scientific genius. While it hasn't been confirmed, fans have speculated that the family introduced in the new film will be Egon's next of kin.The Leftovers alum Carrie Coon plays a single mom named Callie, while Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and Captain Marvel standout McKenna Grace play her kids Trevor and Phoebe. In images seen in the Vanity Fair story, Grace can be seen with one of the Ghostbusters' trademark proton packs strapped to her back. After the family moves to an old farmhouse in Oklahoma, strange occurrences start happening. As Vanity Fair reveals, an old mine outside of town bears the name Ivo Shandor, which is a connection to the original film and the 2009 video game. In 1984's Ghostbusters, Shandor is mentioned as the designer of the building Gozer rises from. In the game, Shandor serves as the primary villain and leader of the Cult of Gozer. While there's no confirmation, it sure does sound like Gozer will figure into the new movie. At the core, though, Murray says it's not the ghosts or callbacks to previous films that will make Afterlife stand out. "The script is good. It's got lots of emotion in it. It's got lots of family in it, with through lines that are really interesting," he said.As for Jason Reitman, son of original film director Ivan Reitman and co-writer and director of Afterlife, he wanted to make a movie that appealed to Ghostbusters fans, old and new. "I wanted to make a movie about finding a proton pack in an old barn and the thrill of actually putting it on for the first time," he explained. With a new cast, as well as the returns of Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts to the roles they made famous, he might just pull it off.Ghostbusters: Afterlife is in theaters on July 10.Info from Gamespot.com

Season 4: Assimilation will add a brand-new weapon to Apex Legends, and it's another sniper rifle. Though datamined assets and recent gameplay changes seemed to hint that Titanfall 2's Volt would be coming to Apex Legends in Season 4, Respawn revealed the battle royale's new weapon is actually the Sentinel."The Sentinel is a new sniper rifle--it's a bolt action sniper rifle," Apex Legends design director Jason McCord said in the Season 4 Reveal Devstream. "So it feels really powerful, it's got that cool animation where you cock it back, and it's a little different than our other sniper rifles because it has a charge mechanic."Given that Season 3: Meltdown already added a sniper rifle that requires charging, the Charge Rifle, it's not immediately clear how the Sentinel differentiates itself--though it seems like the new weapon will behave similarly to a Triple-Take or Peacekeeper that has a Precision Choke attachment equipped. "Don't wanna go too deep on [the charge mechanic] right now but it does give you a little more decision-making to do whenever you're taking those shots." McCord said. "Do you really want to try and take the most powerful shot you can take right now?"Follow-up comments from Apex Legends community manager Jay Frechette seem to support the idea that the Sentinel is a sniper rifle that can fire quick but weak shots or a charged but slow single shot without the need for any attachments. "I've enjoyed playing with [the Sentinel] a lot as well," he said. "It has that neat twist of almost having another fire mode."The new Sentinel sniper rifle isn't a repurposed Titanfall weapon like Season 2's L-Star and Season 3's Charge Rifle.Season 4: Assimilation will also see the return of Kings Canyon and the addition of a brand-new playable character, Forge. Assimilation begins on February 4. Hot on the heels of the wildly successful TV show (which also just so happens to be gearing up for a return), the original comic book series The Boys is making a surprise come back with co-creators Garth Ennis, Russ Braun, and Darick Robertson. The Boys: Dear Becky will pick up where the comics left off while simultaneously fleshing out the pre-history of characters like Billy Butcher and Wee Hughie with thorough flashbacks and references to major events from the original run."Originally I never intended to do more with The Boys at all, but for obvious reasons I've found myself thinking about the story and characters again over the past couple of years," said Ennis, who wrote the comics, in a press release. "There was one aspect of the original story, and one character in particular, that I never felt got a fair shake--Becky Butcher, whose demise motivates her husband Billy to do the terrible things he does, but who only actually appears in two issues of the original book. I liked writing Becky very much, almost as much as Butcher himself, and I wanted to look in greater detail at how her relatively brief appearance cast such a long shadow."Set in a world where superheroes exist but are corrupted by celebrity status and corporate politics, The Boys is a hyper-violent satire of modern superhero culture focused on a dysfunctional group of antiheroes known, informally, as--you guessed it--The Boys. The Amazon Prime Video TV show brought the world of the comics into a brand new light, introducing hilariously messed up characters like The Deep, Homelander, and Billy Butcher to a new generation of fans. But don't panic if you're only coming to these stories from the show. Dear Becky will be aiming to bridge the gap between new readers and old fans, according to Robertson. "This comic has always been close to my heart," he said. "And seeing the response to the show and the new drove of readers discovering the original material makes the timing for this series a wonderful opportunity to bring fresh material to the new readers as well as a treat for the original fans"Dear Becky will continue the story 12 years after the finale of the original 90-issue run when Hughie and Starlight's marriage is unexpectedly derailed by "a mysterious document that threatens to rip open the scars of the past and reveal nightmarish truths about The Boys."The Boys: Dear Becky #1 hits shelves in April. In speaking with creative director Hugo Martin, he explained that it's a matter of scaling specific elements so that, regardless of difficulty, players still have to engage with all the systems and mechanics necessary to survive. In relation to how Doom 2016 difficulty settings worked, Martin said, "The way enemies behaved changed kind of dramatically from difficulty to difficulty. They actually got more accurate." He continued, "What was frustrating is that it was kind of like learning a new combat dance… the fireball distance and the way that I learned to dodge it… different rules." Now, the approach in Doom Eternal is to scale existing mechanics. Regardless of whether you play on easy, Hurt Me Plenty, Ultra-violence or Nightmare, what enemies are capable of doing remains consistent.Essentially, the harder the difficulty, the more frequently demons will come at you with their heavier attacks and the more damage they'll do to you. Martin used boxing as an analogy: "On easy, they're going to throw a lot of jabs and take turns like, 'throw your jab, then I'll throw mine. Now one of us gets to throw a haymaker. On Nightmare, everybody's throwing haymakers nonstop."It seems as though the main focus is to adjust the amount of room for error the player has. Martin explained, "The question is not knowing what to do, it's just mastering how to do it. As we scale down... the two guiding principles were the number of decisions we ask players to make per minute, and then the number of mistakes they're allowed to make per minute." Doom Eternal tunes its variables (ammo, weapon damage, number of enemies, etc) so that you're pushed toward the flow of managing your resources. He's confident in the approach, saying, "It's going to make all players, skilled and unskilled, play Doom the right way because we're betting that it's going to make for a more engaging experience."For more on Doom Eternal, be sure to check out our in-depth preview of the game's opening hours or our broader discussion about the overall experience.
