Legacy video game tech company Atari has announced plans to build a series of branded hotels across the US, including San Francisco, California and Chicago, Illinois. These hotels--the first launching later this year in Phoenix, Arizona--are said to "combin[e] the iconic brand with a one-of-a-kind video game-themed destination," according to a press release.Atari Hotels are allegedly "level[ing] up hotel entertainment" by featuring augmented and virtual reality experiences for every age throughout each of the planned eight locations. Some hotels will include "state-of-the-art venues and studios" for esports events, but Atari didn't specify which ones. The Atari Hotel kinda looks like a corporate office building.Atari also didn't specify when the first hotel will get constructed, only offering the vague "later this year" window. After the first hotel is built in Phoenix, more will get erected in Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Las Vegas, Nevada; San Francisco and San Jose, California; and Seattle, Washington.A producer of the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, Napoleon Smith III, is assisting with hotel design and development. Smith also served as a producer on the TMNT reboot sequel, 2016's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows."When creating this brand-new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the 'nostalgic and retro meets modern' look and feel we were going for," Smith said in the press release. "Let's face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!"Info from Gamespot.com

After being hosted in Mortal Kombat 11 and Gears 5 last year, The Terminator is making yet another guest appearance, this time in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.Ubisoft teased the T-800's inclusion in their latest entry into the Ghost Recon franchise on Twitter, announcing that The Terminator would appear in a limited-time event that kicks off on January 29. This coincides with an update that has been expected for Breakpoint for some time, which will also address on-going issues with the shooter. The future is almost here. The Terminator arrives January 29. pic.twitter.com/JEx5Nrr4Li — Ghost Recon (@GhostRecon) January 27, 2020Although the event itself hasn't yet been detailed, its structure is strikingly similar to that of The Predator's inclusion in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. In that limited-time event players had to defend themselves from the stalking invader, eventually being forced to confront it head-on. The Predator is a far nimbler and more unpredictable foe when compared to The Terminator, so it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft adapts the T-800's unique abilities to evoke a similar sense of exhilaration.Unlike Wildlands though, Breakpoint is having a far more difficult time attracting players. Ubisoft has already expressed their displeasure with its sales performance, which isn't surprising after its poor critical reception. GameSpot's own 4/10 review, by Richard Wakeling, criticized its lack of identity, saying, "It's essentially every Ubisoft open-world game rolled into one, failing to excel in any one area or establish its own identity. Breakpoint is a messy, confused game and a ghost of the series' former self."Info from Gamespot.com

One of the best capture cards out there is the Elgato 4K60 Pro. It gives you the ability to plug your PS4, Xbox One, or Switch directly into your PC, capture high-quality video, and still output to a TV or second monitor--you can even capture the PC itself in this way. If you're looking to livestream your console gameplay, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better option, and right now, it's on sale at Amazon. You can pick up the Elgato 4K60 Pro for $200 right now. That's an astounding 50% off its original price. However, it's worth noting this is the first model of the 4K60 Pro, which means it doesn't feature HDR passthrough--that feature was introduced in the second iteration of the 4K60 Pro. If you're okay with giving up that feature while capturing or streaming, then this deal is absolutely worth taking advantage of. For reference, platforms that support HDR include the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and PC.Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk. 1Elgato 4K60 Pro | $200 ($400) See at Amazon The 4K60 Pro does exactly what its name says: it captures resolutions up to 4K and frame rates up to 60 FPS. The capture card is compatible with Elgato's own Game Capture HD software, though it also works with OBS, Streamlabs OBS, and XSplit, as well as other programs. All you need to use the 4K60 Pro is a free PCIe slot. You plug the capture card into your motherboard, and then you're good to start recording and streaming. It's worth noting that the input and output are both HDMI, so if you have a monitor that only features DisplayPort, then you'll need an appropriate adapter or HDMI-to-DisplayPort cable. The Uncharted movie has been in the works for more than a decade, but unfortunately for fans, it's not coming anytime soon. The wait just got even longer, as Sony has confirmed that the film starring Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as Nathan Drake will now be released in theatres on March 5, 2021, according to Deadline. Previously, the film was expected in theatres in December 2020, but that date was put into question when director Travis Knight left the project in December 2019.Holland plays a young Drake in the Uncharted movie, while Mark Wahlberg is said to have been cast in the role of Victor "Sully" Sullivan. It was recently reported that Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is being eyed to direct the Uncharted movie. Sony has officially hired six directors for the Uncharted movie, and all of them have quit. The previous six were David O. Russell, Seth Gordon, Neil Burger, Dan Trachtenberg, Shawn Levy, and Travis KnightThe Uncharted movie's script has also been re-written numerous times. The most current draft that we know about was written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, the latter two of which wrote the original Iron Man movie. As for the Uncharted video game series, 2017's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the most recent entry in the series, following Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016. No new games have been announced, and developer Naughty Dog's next release is The Last of Us: Part II, which is due for release in May. Even though Naughty Dog is finished with the Uncharted series and Nathan Drake's story is over, the developer says a different studio could come in to make Uncharted 5.Info from Gamespot.com

Though exact figures aren't available, a huge swath of the American public has ditched live TV and cable channels in favor of streaming services for their living room entertainment. As streaming services become more ubiquitous, with more networks and companies jumping in each year, it's easy to see a not-so-distant future where streaming services completely dominate home media, for better or worse. Streaming video services are giving traditional cable and satellite TV stiff competition by delivering live sports and prime-time TV programming online, often for a sizable drop in price. And premium channels such as HBO and Showtime are available as separate streaming services or add-on bundles for relatively inexpensive monthly fees. Live TV streaming services have no hidden fees, and if you ever decide to cancel, it’s easy and painless--a refreshing change from the hassle of dealing with your local cable. The days of Netflix merely complimenting your cable package are gone. Now you have options galore, which is both good and bad. While subscribing to one streaming service can be viewed as a bargain, as you rack up subscriptions the combined price can start to look a lot like the cable bill that you were happy to ditch. Even just a combination of the most popular services--Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and Prime Video--will cost you $30 a month on the low end.To help you make the best decisions, we've put together this handy guide outlining the best TV streaming services to consider in 2020. We weighed both cost and content and will continue to re-evaluate over time as services change and new options become available. The online DVD retailer turned video streaming giant has had a far larger impact on the home media industry than any of the other services on this list. Even with its stranglehold over the streaming industry, Netflix hasn't rested on its laurels. It remains the most popular streaming service for a reason--well, many reasons. Netflix has the largest and most varied collection of programming of any of the services available today. Its library includes a diverse array of original movies and TV content with a bounty of cable shows and popular films, including a nice selection of great anime and even some original anime. But Netflix doesn’t just produce multi-episode series that’ll keep you binge-watching through the weekend: it also makes feature films and documentaries that eat only a couple of hours of your time. It's a cliche, but Netflix really does have something for everyone. If you're a fan of superheroes, The Umbrella Academy and a slew of (now-canceled) Marvel shows are available to stream. If you want to watch some of the most innovative modern comedies, Russian Doll and I Think You Should Leave have you covered. If you like horror, The Haunting of Hill House is there to make you sleep with the lights on. True crime buffs can don their thinking caps during Making a Murderer. And it's the only place to watch Martin Scorsese's latest film, The Irishman. Netflix even has a dedicated section for children's TV shows and movies that's filled with enough animation to keep the kiddos content for the long haul. Anime fans can also enjoy some excellent original anime like Carole & Tuesday, Aggretsuko and Devilman Crybaby, and some popular shows like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, and Fairy Tail. One of the few drawbacks for sports fans is Netflix's lack of live sports coverage. Unless you count the occasional MMA documentary, Netflix isn’t the place for sports, and certainly not live streaming sports.Netflix subscriptions start at $9 per month, which lets you watch on one screen at a time in standard definition. For $13 per month, two users can watch at once, and the resolution is bumped up to high definition. If you're sharing your subscription with your family and friends (everyone does it), the $16 premium subscription is the way to go, as it allows four users to watch simultaneously and supports 4K Ultra HD for compatible content. Hulu adds a significant number of episodes the day after they air on TV, making Hulu the natural choice for those who are hesitant to abandon traditional cable. In the same respect, Hulu is probably not the best bet for those who still have cable. While Hulu has some great original programming, including The Handmaid's Tale and Castle Rock, the brunt of the library features shows that you can easily find on each week or on-demand TV. Hulu occasionally has some good movies to stream, but television is definitely the focus here.Hulu's cable TV content is extremely varied and includes shows from ABC, Adult Swim, Fox, FX, NBC, and many other networks. There are far too many shows to list here, but here's a snapshot of what Hulu has to offer when it comes to scripted shows: This Is Us, The Good Doctor, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Preacher, The Terror, and NOS4A2. Popular reality shows like The Bachelor and Survivor are also available. Hulu even has a nice collection of anime, including popular series like Naruto Shippuden, Attack on Titan, Cowboy Bebop, and Sailor Moon. For now, Hulu remains a great option for recent cord-cutters. And if you haven't cut the cord just yet, subscribing for a month or two to binge some of the original content is certainly worthwhile. Hulu subscriptions start at $6 per month. It's a bargain for sure, but the $6 tier has ads. For $11 per month, you can enjoy all of Hulu's content without ads.If you mainly use your cable subscription to watch sports or other live events like awards shows, the Hulu Live TV package is a stellar alternative to your set-top box cable. For $45, you get access to Hulu's streaming content and a ton of channels, including ESPN, Fox Sports 1, and major news networks. Hulu Live TV users get to follow their favorite sports teams from the NFL, NCAA, NBA, MLS, MLB, and NHL, and it allows sports fans to record their games, provided they’re available. Unlike Sling, YouTube TV comes with live-streaming of the four major TV networks: ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. Overall, it offers more than 70 channels, including all of the most popular news and a large number of sports networks. YouTube TV also falls a bit short in device support, especially compared to the other competitors covered. What it does have is the most flexible cloud DVR which allows users to store their programming for up to nine months after recording, including standard pause/rewind and fast-forward features available.YouTube TV is a better service than Sling TV simply because it gives you more options. You'll pay for those added options, though. YouTube TV costs $50 per month. Add-on networks include Showtime, Fox Soccer Plus, Shudder, Sundance Now, and Starz. Like Sling TV, HBO isn’t available on this service. You can stream simultaneously on six devices, which means you can share your service (and split the cost!) with family and friends. Sling TV offers live TV streaming for more than 50 networks, including ESPN, TBS, TNT, FX, CNN, and many more. It also houses a library of on-demand TV shows and movies from its supported networks. What you won't find on Sling TV are the major networks channel lineup like ABC, Fox, CBS, and NBC.As a cable alternative, Sling TV is pricier than the more traditional streaming services on this list. There are three plans available: Sling Blue, Sling Orange, and Orange & Blue. Both Sling Blue and Sling Orange cost $30 per month (first month is $20). There's some crossover between the two plans in terms of channel lineup, so you'll have to compare the two to see which one has more of the channels you want. If you're mainly subscribing to a streaming service for your kids, Disney Plus is the way to go.Though Disney Plus is rather limited when it comes to fresh original content right now, there are plenty of original TV shows in the works to get excited about, especially for Marvel fans. WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are slated to arrive in 2020, while Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk are on the docket for 2021. There's also the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series to look forward to.For now, the main draw of Disney Plus is its vast library of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and Star Wars content. From classic Disney animated films like The Little Mermaid and The Lion King to Pixar hits like The Incredibles 2 and Wall-E to the first eight films in the Skywalker saga to the majority of the MCU movies, Disney Plus is brimming with popular content that is fun for the whole family. Disney Plus also has a collection of Fox content, including the first 30 seasons of The Simpsons and movies like Home Alone and The Sandlot.Disney Plus costs $6 per month or $70 per year ($5.83/month). We'd imagine that a sizable contingent of Amazon Prime members subscribed for the free one- or two-day shipping, not the huge library of movies and TV shows. But Prime Video is actually pretty darn good.Prime Video features a growing collection of original content, including standout TV shows like The Expanse, The Boys, Fleabag, and The Man In The High Castle. It also receives movies distributed by Amazon Studios such as The Big Sick, Manchester by the Sea, and Beautiful Boy.While Amazon Prime doesn't have quite as robust of a library of network content, it does have some of the best shows released over the last two decades. HBO hits like Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Curb Your Enthusiasm (through Season 8) are all available to stream. Prime Video also houses some excellent network TV, including The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Americans, and Justified. A kids' section features a fairly large selection of both live-action and animated shows and movies. Prime Video also has a nice selection of anime, including Vinland Saga, Psycho-Pass 3, and Made in Abyss.Amazon Prime costs $119 per year (roughly $10/month). You can skip Prime shipping perks and subscribe to Prime Video for only $9/month, but what you lose out on is far more valuable than the minuscule savings. Prime Video is great, but if you already subscribe to Netflix, you'll find a lot of overlap with the exception of the HBO backlist. With that said, we recommend Prime Video for those who will make use of their Amazon Prime membership. Sign up for Prime Video HBO NowBest original seriesWatchmenPrice: $15/monthNotable original content: Succession, Barry, Insecure, Watchmen, His Dark Materials, Big Little Lies, Westworld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Game of Thrones, True DetectiveSupported Devices: Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire tablets, Android phones, Android tablets, Android TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Iphone, Ipad, PS4, Xbox One Roku, and Samsung smart TVsBottom line: HBO Now is home to some of the best TV, but it's a service you can go without until the next season of your favorite show releases. It's no secret that HBO produces some of the very best shows on television. In the 2000s, The Wire and The Sopranos defined TV. In the 2010s, Game of Thrones captivated millions of viewers each week. Just last year, HBO released arguably the best show of the year in Watchmen and pushed one of the best ongoing dramas, Succession, to new heights. HBO also excels at comedies, with the wholly engrossing Barry leading the pack and the pivotal Curb Your Enthusiasm in its tenth season.HBO Now is an excellent service, but it's quite pricey and, frankly, limited when it comes to content. Yes, it has the entire back catalogue of HBO shows and a rotating stable of films, many of which released within the past year or so, but there's only so much you need to watch on HBO.It's easy to recommend HBO Now, because the ongoing original content is top-notch. However, the smart play is to keep your subscription active when a show you like has a new season. There's no sense in having an active HBO Now subscription if all you're waiting for is Season 3 of Westworld. This logic may change when HBO Max, an expanded streaming service from HBO, launches in May 2020. HBO Max will replace HBO Now and feature all of HBO's programming and plenty more, including South Park, Doctor Who, Friends, and every Studio Ghibli film. New content will also be released on HBO Max. The lineup includes DC properties such as Green Lantern, Doom Patrol, and Aquaman; Snowcrash, an adaptation of Neal Stephenson's novel of the same name; and Dune: The Sisterhood, a spin-off series centered around Frank Herbert's classic science fiction novel. Unlike Disney Plus, however, AppleTV Plus is entirely focused on new original content. Though that fact makes AppleTV Plus interesting, it also means that it's low on content at the moment. However, Apple has secured big names to both star in its productions and work on them behind the scenes. For instance, The Morning Show, which follows a group of newscasters, stars Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, and Reece Witherspoon. Servant, an unsettling show about hiring a babysitter to take care of a doll, comes from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan. In addition to series aimed at adult viewers, Apple TV Plus has a new Peanuts show called Snoopy in Space and multiple Sesame Workshop in the works. AppleTV Plus will also soon have its own Silicon Valley-esque show, dubbed Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet, set in a video game development studio starring Rob McElhenney of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame.AppleTV Plus is worth checking out, especially at the reasonable price of $5 per month or $50 per year. Since the service is so new, it's too early to say if it will be something you'll want to hold onto for the long haul, though. It started out mainly as a place to stream both ongoing and old CBS shows. While its library is still primarily comprised of shows you'd watch on CBS, the service now has a growing assortment of original shows, including the new Star Trek: Picard, Why Women Kill, and the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's beloved novel, The Stand.CBS All Access' slate of original programming probably isn't worth subscribing to if you have cable, though. It's best to look at CBS All Access as another subscription that can be dropped and re-added as new exclusive shows arrive on the service. That said, if you do not have cable and want to watch current CBS shows, CBS All Access is your best bet. Unsurprisingly, CBS doesn't license many of its shows to services like Netflix and Hulu. In 2019, Shudder released Creepshow, a horror anthology series and stellar follow-up to the classic film directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King. Season 2 is currently in the works. Though Shudder is still finding its footing with original programming, there's no denying that it offers the widest collection of classic and contemporary horror.Shudder features the expected classics like Psycho, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Birds, Phantasm, and Night of the Living Dead while also housing a substantial library of horror films and shows you may have never heard of before. Yes, giants like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video have some horror, but their selections are nothing compared to Shudder.Shudder costs $6 per month or $57 for an annual membership ($4.75 per month). Most notably, DC Universe has Titans, a mature, live-action follow-up to Teen Titans, and Doom Patrol, which moves into its second season later this year.Though DC Universe doesn't have very many original shows at this time, it does have an impressive back catalogue. You'll find a ton of animated Batman movies, including Batman: Hush, Batman Ninja, and Batman: Year One. After the Nintendo Switch console launched back in March 2017, I started searching for the best Nintendo Switch controller. While the current model (which sports improved battery life over the launch model) is great, the Joy-Cons leave something to be desired (at least the d-pad is better on Switch Lite). Thankfully, Switch players have a number of options when it comes to Nintendo Switch accessories. Whether you prefer to play the Nintendo Switch console with a PS4 or Xbox One controller, play using the Joy-Cons while they're charging, or just love gaming on the go, there's an accessory tailor-made for you. You can even make the console more comfortable by improving the grip of the console itself, so you don't drop it and damage the screen (though you should probably still get a screen protector, just in case). The official Nintendo Pro controller is still the go-to option for the best Nintendo Switch controller for the console overall (it has a great battery perfect for long gaming stints, easy charging, and can be used with a Nintendo Switch dock or even if you're using the console in tabletop mode), but it's also somewhat pricey. Looking for something else? We're on the case.Whether you're looking for a cheaper Switch Pro alternative or just want something with a different grip while you play Minecraft, we thankfully have a number of other gaming options at our disposal without having to resort to a Switch mod; third-party companies like 8Bitdo and PDP have introduced some great alternatives to the Pro controller that account for personal preference while also introducing new features not found in first-party Nintendo Switch accessories. Not all of these Switch accessories are winners, but I have tested and identified some of the best Nintendo Switch controllers (most of which also work with the new Switch Lite, by the way), if you need something a little different at a more affordable price. We'll keep this article updated as we test new controllers, adapters, and more Switch accessories as more are introduced in 2020. In the meantime, read on for an overview of the best Nintendo Switch controllers we've tried and can vouch for. Note that all pricing indicated below is subject to change--Amazon slashes the price on these products regularly, so you may see a discount when clicking through that we haven't listed here.Quick look: The best Nintendo Switch controllers we've testedNintendo Switch Pro controller -- $598Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter (for PS4 / Xbox One controllers) -- $208Bitdo SN30 Pro Plus wireless controller -- $49.25PDP Faceoff Deluxe+ wired controller -- $25Hori Split Pad Pro -- $50Hori D-Pad Joy-Cons -- $258Bitdo M30 wireless controller -- $29.688Bitdo N30 wireless controller -- $268Bitdo SN30 wireless controller -- $40Nintendo Switch Pro ControllerThe best first-party Nintendo Switch controllerThe Good:The best ergonomics of any controller I've usedButtons are satisfying to pressFeatures NFC/Amiibo support, HD rumble, and motion controlsThe Bad:D-Pad is prone to incorrect inputs$70 price tag is a bit steepFirst off, we can't talk about the best Nintendo Switch controllers on the market without talking about the first-party option, the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. The Switch Pro is a great buy for most players with very few faults. For me, it has the best ergonomics among Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony's first-party console video game controllers. It's the perfect size for my large hands, and the triggers are shaped just right for resting fingers. The face buttons feel good to press; the +, -, Home, and Screenshot buttons click wonderfully; and the analog sticks have a good amount of tension. It's got great battery life, too, and even works with the Switch Lite, if that's something you're looking for. All these advantages make it work brilliantly for most Switch games. The one problem I have with the Pro Controller is the D-Pad. It's prone to incorrect inputs, which is most noticeable when playing puzzle games like Tetris 99 or fighting games like Mortal Kombat 11. This usually happens when you press a direction on the pad, but you're a little off-center, causing an input in the wrong direction. It's not an issue most of the time you're playing with the Switch console (You don't need a hyper-responsive d-pad for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Xenoblade Chronicles 2, for example) but when I'm playing a game that relies heavily on the D-Pad, I always opt for something other than the Switch Pro.The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller also boasts a lot of features that most third-party controllers rarely include as well as a pretty capable USB-C to USB-A cable. This includes NFC/Amiibo support, HD rumble, and motion controls. These things aren't required for the vast majority of games, but every now and then, a certain utilization of them can put a smile on your face--HD rumble is used excellently in Super Mario Odyssey, for example. However, the Pro Controller's price tag is also $70 USD, which is more expensive than both the DualShock 4 and latest Xbox One controller. There's no doubt the Pro Controller is one of the best Nintendo Switch controllers and one of the best Switch accessories you can buy, but when there are great options at cheaper prices, it's hard to justify buying a second, third, and/or fourth for your friends to use for, say, Smash. $59 at Amazon 8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth AdapterThe best way to use PS4 and Xbox One controllers on the SwitchThe Good:Enables use of a DualShock 4, Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One, Wii U Pro, Wiimote, DualShock 3, and any compatible 8Bitdo controllerEasy to set upThe Bad:Some games can cause abnormal vibration, which requires firmware updates to fixCan't wake up the Switch from Sleep ModeThe first time I plugged the 8Bitdo Bluetooth adapter into my Switch console dock, it felt like black magic. I was using my DualShock 4 on a Nintendo platform, hitting Circle when it asked for A, Cross when it asked for B. And when it asked for X? You guessed it: Triangle. There was definitely a period of getting used to what buttons I should be pressing for each input the Switch requested, but once this passed, the adapter proved an excellent way to use not just the DualShock 4, but a wide array of Bluetooth-enabled controllers that don't already connect to the Switch directly.Of course, any controller you’ll use with this adapter won’t include features like HD rumble, motion controls, or Amiibo support. These losses are negligible for the vast majority of experiences, especially when using your favorite Bluetooth controller is the trade-off. One downside to this adapter, however, is a rumble issue that crops up with certain games. Most recently, I’ve experienced this with Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where your controller will vibrate abnormally even if you turn off rumble in the Switch’s system settings. This issue has been fixed for games like Splatoon 2 and Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy, though this requires you to plug the adapter into a computer to update the firmware. If you want a cheap way to have a great controller work with your Switch console, this is the gizmo to buy. $20 at Amazon 8Bitdo SN30 Pro PlusThe best Switch Pro Controller alternativeThe Good:Extensive button mapping and macro customizationAdjustable dead-zones for analog sticks and triggersCustomizable rumble functionalityRemovable, rechargeable batteryAllows for the use of two AA batteries instead of the battery packAlso doubles as an excellent option for classic gamesThe Bad:Requires a computer to customize controller inputsThe 8Bitdo SN30 Pro Plus is one of the more exciting Switch controllers. Not only does it feature a design inspired by the SNES, it also features extensive customization for button mapping, analog sticks, trigger inputs, and vibration adjustments. It allows you to swap button inputs, invert the X and Y axis on your analog sticks, and more. You can even create macros of up to 18 inputs. All of this customization must be done on a computer screen, but 8Bitdo's customization software is a breeze to use. The one downside is that there are no extra buttons or paddles on the controller, so the remapping is restricted to swapping buttons. My personal favorite thing about this controller is the fact that it includes a removable, rechargeable battery and also allows for disposable batteries. As someone who is currently sitting next to a box of dead PS3 controllers, I'm happy to know there is a great alternative to the Switch's Pro controller that I'll be able to use long after its rechargeable battery dies. $49 at Amazon PDP Faceoff Deluxe+ ControllerThe best budget Switch Pro ControllerThe Good:Great D-padExcellent ergonomicsRemappable paddlesAudio port works great for voice chat-enabled games and listening with headphonesThe Bad:Can hit paddles by accident in some casesCan't wake the Switch up from Sleep ModeWhen I learned the Switch had a Pro controller alternative that included an audio port, boasted remappable paddles, and only cost $25, I didn't expect much in the way of quality. The PDP Faceoff Deluxe+ wired controller exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favorites to use with the Switch. Holding it, it feels very similar to Nintendo's Pro controller. I don't think any of these controllers beat the Pro controller in pure ergonomics, but this PDP pad comes close. The general shape is the same, but the sticks and triggers come up a touch higher. I like the raised height of the triggers, but I feel like they could have been reshaped a bit to better fit the natural curve of your fingers.Nevertheless, this hardly ruins the experience. The inclusion of remappable paddles is a fantastic addition. You can map any button to these paddles, and I found it incredibly useful for games that assigned sprint to a face button. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I'm able to sprint, jump, and glide, all while controlling the camera with my thumb firmly planted on the right stick. Of course, this can present some problems in certain games. When switching from Breath of the Wild to Super Mario Maker 2, I would instinctively squeeze the paddle while making some jumps. And unfortunately, there's only one configuration profile and no way to turn the paddles off, so if you don't want to use them, you'll have to go through the short process of mapping them to each other--this makes it so there's no input when pressing them. It's a minor issue, but an annoying one nonetheless.Thankfully, the PDP Faceoff Deluxe+ feels good enough to use to deal with the occasional accidental button press. Its analog sticks have a similar tension to the Pro controller's, and it has a great D-Pad. The 3.5mm audio port is a good option for voice chat in supported games (e.g. Fortnite), though I spent most of my time using the port to listen through my favourite pair of headphones. This works really well, with the ability to control your volume on the controller itself and within the Switch's menu. And with its wired connection, you don't have to worry about its battery dying. Because that wired connection powers the Switch, however, you won't be able to turn the console on from Sleep Mode--you'll have to hit the Power button on your docked Switch before starting to play. As long as you're okay these few inconveniences, then I can wholeheartedly recommend the Faceoff Deluxe+. $25 at Amazon Hori Split Pad ProBest Switch Joy-Cons for handheld modeThe Good:Ergonomic design makes handheld play more comfortableMore accurate analog sticks than Nintendo's Joy-ConsExcellent D-PadBigger face and shoulder buttonsEasily fits into the dock with Split Pad Pro attachedProgrammable back paddlesThe Bad:Restricted to handheld use onlyBack paddles can only be programmed to a button on its respective sideNo rumble, motion controls, or NFC reader capabilityThe Hori Split Pad Pro is the best set of Joy-Cons I've ever played with. As someone with big hands, the small Joy-Cons are extremely uncomfortable to use, basically forcing me to use a grip case whenever I play in handheld. With the Split Pad Pro, I don't need anything else to have an enjoyable, comfortable experience. It's not quite as comfortable as holding a real controller, but the Split Pad Pro has enough extra material to easily fill your hands and make the button placement comfortable to interact with. And as far as the buttons, D-Pad, and analog sticks go, I couldn't be happier. The analog sticks offer a smoother, more accurate experience, while the D-Pad is one of the best I've seen for the hybrid console--especially in handheld mode. The Switch is even easier to dock with the Hori Split Pad Pro attached, fitting into its plastic home like a puzzle piece. However, the Hori Split Pad Pro does have its downsides. With the lack of any kind of rumble or motion controls, I was left wondering if I was missing out on any specific features in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening--some Switch games, like Cadence of Hyrule, use HD rumble in critical ways. After looking through articles online, I convinced myself I wasn't, but that uncertainty will likely rear its head with each new game. Another minor annoyance is the inability to map both back paddles to the ABXY face buttons. The Split Pad Pro can only be used in handheld mode because the controllers have no way of communicating wirelessly--with the Switch or each other. This leaves the left paddle with limited options for remapping; I couldn't find a good use for the left paddle that was more convenient than just pushing the D-Pad. Of course, with this being a pair of Joy-Cons that need to be attached to the console, it doesn't work with the Switch dock, either.Despite these few shortcomings, I can't see myself returning to Nintendo's official Joy-Cons. The added size of the Split Pad Pro would be enough, but the smoother analog sticks, superior D-Pad, and bigger buttons make me excited for the next time I play my Switch. It's of course not compatible with the Switch Lite, since it doesn't support different Joy-Con options, and it you can't get it in neon. $50 at Amazon Hori D-Pad Joy-ConGreat option for a D-Pad in handheld modeThe Good:A great, convenient option for a D-Pad in handheld modeVery comfortable for games that excel with a D-PadThe Bad:Restricted to handheld use onlyIncompatible with most cases and gripsPerhaps the most disappointing thing about the Switch is the lack of a proper D-Pad on its left Joy-Con. It's not an automatic dealbreaker, with games like Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate not utilizing the D-Pad for anything super demanding, but when the situation calls for it, the Hori D-Pad Joy-Con feels a lot more precise and comfortable when playing in handheld mode. The D-Pad on Hori's Joy-Con is softer than what I usually look for, but it's hard to deny just how pleasant the experience is. I didn't realize how much I missed a D-Pad until I used this to play games like Mortal Kombat 11, Tetris 99, and Super Mario Maker 2. These games, as well as many others, have since been a lot more enjoyable in handheld mode. There are a few things that are important to note, however. First off, this Joy-Con can't be used wirelessly, so you're restricted to using it in handheld mode. Secondly, it's incompatible with most cases and grips. This is because the latch button protrudes out further than Nintendo's official Joy-Cons. I took a pair of scissors and cut out a space for it on my cheap Orzly grip case, but I likely won't be doing the same to my more expensive accessories. Mario Edition $25 at Amazon Zelda Edition $33 at Amazon Pikachu Edition $25 at Amazon 8bitdo M30 BluetoothThe best classic controller on Nintendo SwitchThe Good:Fantastic D-Pad and ergonomicsConnects directly to Nintendo SwitchAlso compatible with Windows, Mac, Android, and Raspberry PiThe Bad:Not suitable for all games8Bitdo's M30 controller might just be one of my favorite pads ever. As a Sega Genesis kid, I've always held a special place in my heart for the six-button controller, which is what the M30 emulates and improves on. Its ergonomics have been shaped differently to make it more comfortable to hold than the Sega original, and the D-Pad is by far my favorite of any 8Bitdo controller. Classic titles, platformers, and fighting games are the obvious choice for the M30, but I've also found myself enjoying Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with it. It's definitely not going to work with every game, especially those that rely on a second analog stick, but it's a controller I'll always go to if it's possible to do so. $29.68 at Amazon 8Bitdo N30 BluetoothThe best NES controller for Nintendo SwitchThe Good:Better shoulder buttons than the subscription-exclusive NES Joy-ConsIncludes a Home buttonConnects directly to Nintendo SwitchAlso compatible with retro receivers and USB adaptersThe Bad:Not suitable for all gamesThe 8Bitdo N30 isn't going to be for everyone. It's an NES-style controller that is great for very specific games, like everything in the Switch Online NES library and very few others. I prefer the NES controller's shape and button layout for that console's games, but in trying to find other uses for the N30, I was largely unsuccessful. Even modern Tetris games like Tetris 99 and Puyo Puyo Tetris require more than the D-Pad and B and A buttons--the extra two face buttons on the N30 are restricted to Turbo. The N30 includes shoulder buttons for L and R, which does extend the number of games it can be used with (e.g. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), but the options are still limited.I mostly use my N30 in conjunction with a retro receiver that lets me use it with real NES hardware and RetroUSB's AVS. It's my new favorite pad for that console. It's also an excellent option for the Switch, but it's not necessary to enjoy any game, NES or not. However, if you are looking for that very specific NES experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend the N30. Nintendo's own NES Switch controllers are good, but they have inferior shoulder buttons and need to be charged the same way as your Joy-Cons--not to mention, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription that's required before you can even purchase them. With all this considered, the N30 is perfect for the job. $26 at Amazon 8Bitdo SN30 BluetoothThe best SNES controller for Nintendo SwitchThe Good:Connects directly to Nintendo SwitchComes with a retro receiver for SNES useAlso compatible with USB adaptersThe Bad:Not suitable for select gamesThe SN30 Pro Plus discussed earlier might be the best Switch controller on this list, and with its SNES-style layout, it's great for classic games. However, if you're looking for something a bit more authentic to the SNES experience, then the basic SN30 is your best alternative. Like both the M30 and N30, it doesn't work with every game, but there are plenty of great options with the Switch's excellent selection of platformers and fighting games. The SN30 also comes with a retro receiver that can be plugged into a SNES. If you still have a Super Nintendo--or an Analogue Super NT--then this is an awesome option to play classic games on that console. And as a bonus, this retro receiver can also be connected via USB, as long as you have an extra USB-C cable attached. $40 at Amazon Info from Gamespot.com

Autobots and Decepticons are not going to stop fighting anytime soon. Multiple reports confirm today that Paramount and Hasbro are working on two new Transformers movies that are being produced concurrently. One of the movies is being written by Army of the Dead writer Joby Harold, who also worked on John Wick 3. The other is being penned by James Vanderbilt, whose credits include The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, the Adam Sander/Jennifer Aniston Netflix movie Murder Mystery, and the David Fincher film Zodiac.According to the stories by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, the new films aim to "build out multiple storylines" as they "expand the Transformers universe."There is no word on who may direct the new Transformers films or who might star in them. It sounds like very early days for both projects. The Transformers movie franchise started in 2007 with a big-budget, action-packed film directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Sequels followed in 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2017.The latest instalment is the 2018 spin-off Bumblebee starring Hailee Steinfeld and directed by Travis Knight. A lower-budget film, the movie scored the highest average review scores in franchise history but made the lowest amount of money ($468 million). In total, the Transformers franchise has made more than $4 billion worldwide, so it's no surprise to learn that Paramount and Hasbro are keen to continue making more entries. Throughout its eight seasons, Arrow has pulled out the stops time and again. It's launched a universe of shows on The CW, introduced a long list of iconic comic book heroes and villains, and it's explored the life of the Green Arrow--Oliver Queen--more than any other TV show or movie could possibly have dreamed of. Now, with it's next and final episode--"Fadeout"--the series is saying goodbye under some truly unique circumstances. The series finale of Arrow comes on the heels of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, which not only reshaped the multiverse but killed off Oliver (Stephen Amell) for good. Ending a long-running series without the main character is no easy task, but it's one Arrow's executive producers were eager to take on."It was extremely challenging for all those reasons but I think, you know, Mark [Guggenheim] and I talked a lot about it and in the end it all those challenges is what made the ending so perfect," showrunner Beth Schwartz said during a Q&A following a screening of the finale. She later added, "There's a lot of wish fulfillment."The end result is an episode filled with a long list of guest stars from throughout Arrow's eight seasons, many of which have been revealed thanks to photos of Oliver's funeral, one of which you can see above. Having so many familiar faces back allowed the show to craft the final moments they hope fans will be excited to see."I know it's really important to me and Mark to honor all of our characters in this. This was, you know, we spent a lot of time in the room brainstorming endings for all our characters," Schwartz explained. "And whether they were series regulars in Season 8 or they were series regulars in Season 1, it's we really wanted to give everyone a satisfying ending so that you could envision what their lives would be like after the show was over."While they don't want to spoil exactly what those endings are, executive producer Marc Guggenheim previously revealed to GameSpot that the episode would include a nod to the fan theory that John Diggle (David Ramsey) is connected to the Green Lantern. "We've got we have a very specific moment in mind for the series finale, that our hope is it'll be satisfying to the fans, without getting me in trouble with my bosses at Warner Brothers," he said in August.Arrow's series finale airs Tuesday, January 28, on The CW. Bleeding Edge, the new 4v4 brawler from Ninja Theory, will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches on March 24. The team-based multiplayer title will thus be available to more players at launch than it would have been if it wasn't available on the surface, and according to creative director Rahni Tucker, that has changed some elements of development.Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, Tucker said that the game's direction has been influenced by its inclusion on this subscription service. "There's a fair bit of focus at the moment on the new player experience," she says. She believes that people who buy the game at retail are probably doing so "because it's in a genre they know and understand so they're going to have familiarity with things like objective control or class-based characters."However, Game Pass subscribers who are interested in trying out something new might not have that previous experience or built-in interest. "If you've come to the game through Game Pass and maybe you don't know so much about this type of genre, it can be a little harder to get into the game," Tucker says. "Maybe they don't know all of the buttons, maybe they don't know how the game modes work, so we're trying to focus on that and make sure there's a nice ramp for new players coming into the game."The game will let players take on AI opponents before testing their mettle online, and there's a tutorial where players can "practice safely" too. "Hopefully they can go into that first game a little bit more prepared," Tucker says.Bleeding Edge is also coming to PC, and will be available on Steam.Ninja Theory, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, has a few other games in the works. Hellblade II, a sequel to the well-received original, is in development, with Senua returning. They're also developing The Insight Project, an initiative meant to help fight mental illness, and Project: Mara, which is a horror experience based on the theme of "mental terror".Info from Gamespot.com

Microsoft has clarified its stance on mods for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC, and there are some intriguing details to be learned. In a blog post, 343 senior producer Michael Fahrny said that while it is still relatively early days--after all, only Halo: Reach is available on PC right now with The Master Chief Collection--he said the team is keen to work with fans to build out an offering that could even include the ability to buy and sell mods in the Steam Workshop."For modding, we're very much still dipping our toes in the water. I have some long-term goals to empower the modding community more than they already are, but I'm not quite ready to go into details yet on that," Fahrny said.He went on to say that one of the "most important" elements of modding for Halo on PC is to ensure the proper "ground rules and guard rails" are in place. The first part of this is creating an End User License Agreement (EULA) that "clearly defines what we will support being done while also maintaining the integrity of our game service and protected environments (think matchmaking)."Work began on this EULA in November, and it was based in part on feedback from the Minecraft team at Microsoft. A draft of the EULA is currently sitting with Microsoft's lawyers.Once the EULA has been confirmed, Microsoft can get to work on "what potential tools our team can commit to and prioritize work around them."Fahrny also said he is personally a big fan of games with modding support, because the mods people create help extend the longevity of a game by giving the player something new to return to on a regular basis. "It's important to me as a player and I can finally bring that with me into MCC," he said. For modding in MCC, Fahrny said it will be important to lower the barrier to entry "as much as we can" as it relates to the modding tools and mod-managing systems for less technically savvy people. "The current ways can be complicated and lead to people getting themselves into bad states," he said. "It's just not good for long term modding health. More official tools, things like Steam Workshop support, etc. are the best path forward."On the subject of the Steam Workshop, Fahrny said Microsoft is considering an environment where people can buy and sell MCC mods. However, this will depend on whether EULA gets approved by Microsoft's lawyers, it seems. "We are talking about this and not fundamentally against it, but it will come down to what we're legally able to allow," he said.Although MCC does not have a complete and official modding program as of yet, PC players are very enterprising and have already created a lot of imaginative and impressive mods. In the future, it will add Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4, following periods of testing. Halo: Combat Evolved is undergoing its first testing phase in February. You can sign up for the Halo Insider program for a chance to get into beta. The next mainline Halo game is Halo Infinite, and it's scheduled to be released on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC later this year.Info from Gamespot.com

SoulCalibur VI's next guest character, Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown, was announced back in August 2019. He's one of four new characters joining the game in this DLC season, but until now we'd seen no footage of the swordsman in action. Now, a first-look trailer for Haohmaru has been released, showing the samurai slashing through SoulCalibur stalwart Heishiro. The footage below gives us a sense of how well Haohmaru will fit into the world of Namco Bandai's fighting game. The character is set to join the game in the "spring," although a specific release date has not been nailed down beyond that. The SoulCalibur World Tour 2020 is currently underway, having begun in Tokyo over the weekend of January 25-26.The SoulCalibur series is no stranger to guest fighters--previous guests include Link from The Legend of Zelda (SoulCalibur II on GameCube), Darth Vader (SoulCalibur IV on PS3), Ezio from Assassin's Creed (SoulCalibur V) and Geralt of Rivia (SoulCalibur VI at launch). SoulCalibur VI received an 8/10 in our review, and reviewer Tamoor Hussain praised it for being easy to access and challenging to master. "Like all the best titles in the genre, it has a low barrier to entry and high skill ceiling. For those looking to get in a few games with friends it's welcoming and immediately enjoyable. For those committed to ploughing the depths of its systems to get tournament ready, it has plenty to unpack and understand."Info from Gamespot.com

A man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for committing multiple armed robberies at GameStop locations in Southern California. The US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California announced the sentencing of Frederick Lopez Jr. today.Lopez is accused of stealing more than $132,000 worth of cash and merchandise during robberies that took place between August 2018 and October 2018 the Los Angeles and Orange counties."Lopez entered the stores at night, sometimes accompanied by another suspect, pulled a handgun from his waistband and used it to threaten store employees. Lopez then would order GameStop employees to load game consoles and video games into store bags," the release states. The report goes on to detail the extent of the crimes:"During the West Covina robbery on October 24, 2018, Lopez and his co-conspirator ordered the GameStop store clerks into the store's back room, demanded their cell phones and destroyed the store’s telephone. Lopez then ordered one of the store’s clerks to help carry stolen items out to a nearby minivan. Lopez used a .40-caliber handgun during this robbery."Prosecutors said armed robberies are particularly heinous because they leave "substantial stress and trauma" for the victims. Lopez has been ordered to pay $132,300 in restitution, in addition to his prison term.In other news about GameStop, the retailer is currently struggling. The company is trading at around $4.28 per share, which is close to an all-time low for the retailer. Management believes the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will help turn things around.Info from Gamespot.com
