There's an air of familiarity to Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. It's an action role-playing game with heavy inspiration from Diablo and Path of Exile, from their high-fantasy gothic settings to their destiny-bound protagonists and plethora of abilities to dabble in. Wolcen wears its influences on its sleeve, and while it makes changes to their established foundations, it stumbles so many times along the way that it just feels lost by the end of it.Wolcen's opening obscures some of its more novel ideas, with a stale and predictable narrative that makes it feel generic. You play as one of three siblings born and bred for battle, but cast out from the only family you know when an unknown power awakens within you. It's a plot filled to the brim with exposition, riddled with vaguely explained fantasy jargon and worldbuilding that never clicks into place. It's easy to forget about entirely after the first few hours, with only the stilted dialogue and awkward cutscenes reminding you of the uninteresting events dressing Wolcen's main draw. The setting, however, doesn't fall prey to the same oppressive medieval look. Gloomy caverns and bright, colorful forests are equally impressive backdrops for the equally outstanding visual details buried within them. The variation across Wolcen's three acts is impressive too, as it whisks you between the opulent, gold-laden halls of an ancient sacred ground to the blood-drenched trenches of a chaotic battlefield.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Have you ever seen an old cartoon where a fight breaks out and the brawlers turn into a cloud of punches that flips tables and breaks everything it touches? Bloodroots, a breakneck action-puzzle game from Quebec developer Paper Cult, lives inside that cloud. A short, speedy tale of mayhem and revenge, Bloodroots dares you stab, bludgeon, squash, and otherwise murder dozens of thugs with the ruthless efficiency of the Wild West’s greatest outlaw and the zany gusto of Bugs Bunny trolling Yosemite Sam. Whether you do this for the sake of its well-written story and/or the thrill of a score chase, Bloodroots can be stylish, graceful (once you know what you’re doing), and surprisingly easy to pick up despite demanding a tremendous attention to detail. In its pre-release state, however, its most elating moments are easily and frequently disrupted by technical issues, keeping you from really hitting your stride as often as you should.Bloodroots puts you on the warpath with the Wild West outlaw Mr. Wolf, who’s out for revenge against his gang, the Blood Beasts. The Beasts, who all wear animal skins and go by Reservoir Dogs-style code names like Mr. Boar and Mrs. Crow, betray and nearly kill him after murdering an entire town in the name of their new leader, Mr. Black Wolf. From the moment he recovers from his attempted assassination, Mr. Wolf has one goal: to kill his former gang and anyone who gets between them. The story, though simple and predictable, is made compelling through strong dialogue that forges complex characters. Though Mr. Wolf rarely speaks, you learn a lot about him; his story and the history of the gang are told in carefully constructed interactive flashbacks and through his encounters with the Beasts. You don’t spend too much story time with any one character--this is an action game and the gameplay comes first--but in tracking down each former partner, you come to understand and savor your time with them. Everyone, and I mean everyone, in Bloodroots is a bad guy, but you come to see that every character has their own perspective on how the gang rose and fell. In hearing about Mr. Wolf’s past from the Beasts, in their own unique voices, you not only understand the situation better, but come to understand that there’s more in their lives than a single act of vengeance. That isn’t to say you won’t have reservations about your mission--they’re bad guys through and through--but you understand why they made their choices, which makes your hunt more satisfying.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Maquette, a new first-person puzzler from Graceful Decay and published by Annapurna Interactive, has been announced for PC. It's will release on Steam, but currently has no release date.A love story wrapped in a puzzle game, Maquette is billed as a recursive puzzler where you'll explore a world within itself. Approach the center of the core grand structure, and you'll be greeted with a smaller representation of the level you're in. Manipulating one level has an immediate effect on the other, letting you witness small objects existing as much large ones in the same view. It's a concept that's quite striking, as you can see in the reveal trailer above. Each level features new puzzles that tie into an ongoing imaginative love story, using the world's sense of scale to accentuate how small issues can have large effects on its surroundings.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A new Max Raid event has begun in Pokemon Sword and Shield. To commemorate Pokemon Day, the Legendary Mewtwo is appearing in Max Raid dens for a limited time, as are the original three starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle--and you'll get some great rewards for defeating them. The Mewtwo Raid in particular differs from other Raids in a few ways. First, Mewtwo is uncatchable. Before you join the Raid, you'll see a warning that Mewtwo can't be caught, but there's still a good incentive to battle it; you'll receive some fantastic rewards if you can defeat the Legendary, including Ability Capsules--which can be used to change one of your Pokemon's Abilities.Earning these rewards won't be easy, however. Mewtwo is level 100, and it's incredibly fast and powerful; it can move four times in a turn and knows a broad range of attacks. The Kanto starters, however, can be caught. These Raids likewise dispense rare items as rewards, including Flame Orbs, which could previously only be obtained from Sword and Shield's true antagonist, the Ball Guy.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Developer Ndemic Creations has announced that Plague Inc. has been removed from sale on the China App Store. The Cyberspace Administration of China determined that the strategy game "includes content that is illegal in China."Back in January, sales of the eight-year-old game skyrocketed in China, as players began using it to gain a better understanding of how diseases spread in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak--more commonly known as coronavirus. Plague Inc. is a real-time strategy game that tasks you with creating and evolving a deadly pathogen than can wipe out humanity before the world's top scientists are able to devise a cure. Its authenticity and educational importance has frequently been recognised by health organisations like the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)."Plague Inc. is a huge critical and commercial success," Ndemic said in a statement. "Eight years old and with over 130 million players, it's the #1 strategy/simulation game worldwide and has been the most popular paid game in China for many years. Plague Inc. stands out as an intelligent and sophisticated simulation that encourages players to think and learn more about serious public health issues. Rian Johnson's murder-mystery Knives Out was an exciting film filled with twists and turns that kept viewers on the edge of their seats. While the movie was over two hours long, it didn't feel like it, as Knives Out was filled with information leading the audience to find out "Whodunit"--or who killed Harlan Thrombey. Now, with the release of the movie on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital, deleted scenes reveal more on the backstories of certain members of the Thrombey family. One moment that's never fully explained in the theatrical release of the film is why Walt Thrombey is walking with a cane. The deleted scenes give some insight. The opening scene has Walt explaining to the detectives and Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) that he got into a bicycling accident. However, in other scenes, Blanc reveals he knows it wasn't an accident and that Walt was shot in the leg at 3 AM. Walt's wife Donna confides in Blanc, saying Walt was taking money from the Thrombey publishing company for side investments, and in turn, that got him into some rough water with thugs, who wanted Walt to pay up.In the commentary for the deleted scene, director Johnson explained it was another way to show Walt's desperation, and there were other moments to this side story that were never filmed. While the deleted scene of Donna seeing a thug on her front step is included on the home release, Johnson explained there was a planned scene where said thug gives Blanc the coat he's wearing, as the thug is another police officer Blanc was using to get Donna to confess to Walt's side investments.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

You can race pretty much anything in Grand Theft Auto V's GTA Online. Whether you're racing against other players in supercars, mopeds, SUVs, planes, boats, RC cars, or even something as ludicrous as an airport baggage carrier. And yet, there's something missing... The next logical step is obviously to compete in the San Andreas Prix in F1-style open-wheel vehicles.GTA Online: Open Wheel Racing is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The update adds two brand new ultra-performance vehicles for you to race in, the PR4 and R88. Both share the same stats, but you can take each one to Los Santos Customs to fine-tune and purchase spoilers, tires, liveries, engine mods, and more. There are seven new tracks to hurl your new open-wheel masterpiece around, with closed-circuit races spread out across Los Santos and the surrounding area. The Vinewood Hills are home to the winding hairpins of a historic street circuit, while City Hall is the centrepiece of a rapid city circuit. There are also races around the Port of Los Santos, Los Santos International Airport, and the Fort Zacundo military base. Elsewhere, Davis tasks you with avoiding potholes and concrete blocks as you propel around its tight corners, and the final track transports you to the coast, as breaking waves provide the background noise to each race.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
