A new look at Square Enix's remake of Final Fantasy VII at The Game Awards gives a slightly closer look at Cloud Strife, its cipher of a protagonist with a tortured backstory. The latest trailer for the game gives some hints about Cloud's standoffish personality and his relationship with Tifa, although it didn't present much in the way of new footage we haven't already seen.

The trailer highlights Cloud's role as a stoic mercenary of few words in the first chapter of Final Fantasy VII, which focuses on the events in Midgar from the original game. The trailer also gave a few quick looks new action-RPG take on Final Fantasy VII's original menu-based combat. Check it out above.

New box art that recently appeared online revealed that contrary to previous assumptions, the remake of Final Fantasy VII won't be a PS4 exclusive forever. It'll eventually make its way to Xbox One and PC--although those release dates haven't been revealed yet. The art suggests FF7 will be available only on PS4 until March 2021, so that looks to be when the Square Enix's exclusivity deal with Sony will expire. We already know the game will be playable on PS5, so it seems very possible it could make its way to Xbox One Scarlett as well.

We got hands-on with a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII at E3 2019, and it did not disappoint. Check out our FF7 impressions, as well as our preorder guide.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is set for release on PS4 in March 2020.
